    I had a woman call the restaurant I work at on the 4th to cancel her reservations because we still had our pride flag up. It was equally infuriating and hilarious.

    As someone who doesn't have much connection to the military, I think American veterans do experience some profound discrimination, but it's more in the realm of ableism/not getting proper healthcare or accommodations, and that's a completely different conversation. They need tangible support, not parades. Homophobia shows up so frequently in day-to-day interpersonal interactions, and Pride celebrations absolutely help the LGBTQ+ community find a place in our heterosexist society. Anyone who claims "but the poor military" is throwing out a blatant red herring.

      Hahah, the LGBT+ community won't find a place in the kingdom of heaven but heterosexual Soldiers and Veterans will you might want to read the Bible and find out why...The societies 'opinion" is not above God's law, you're very foolish to "think' it is...Take a look at a graveyard Gen 3;19, Rom 6;23, Rom 1;24-28, 1 Cor 6:9-11, Rev 21;8-10, that's God's opinion, and none of you can change it no matter how much you hate it...😊😊😊

    I explain to people there is no white history month because white people (generally) know their ancestory and can celebrate being Irish, or Russian, ect. Black people (by this I dont mean African American people who immigrated later although they can face similar problems) don't have a history or culture to celebrate outside of a shared history of being black their identities/languages/rights were stripped from them. They can't even celebrate being American because they are definitely not treated equally. Pride is similar but different and I don't know how to make a direct comparison.

    • @CheshieD
      @CheshieD 3 года назад +39

      British would be a better example, a lot of people who are Irish don’t even know their own language because of the British colonizing them and banning a lot of stuff culturally and all. It’s why Gaelic is a dying language. And the whole like Northern Ireland and bombings and stuff-ehhh that’s really a whole other topic really that I don’t know too much about.
      Other than that though, absolutely. Majority of us do know most of our ancestors and their culture, since I’m more than Irish I know and can easily learn about my German, Dutch, and Finnish cultures.

    I desperately want to come out to my parents, I’m non-binary and I’ve gone by a different name for about a month now.
    Both my parents are a different case, my mum accepts the whole LGBT, she accepts trans and gay and all that, she doesn’t fully understand but I know she wouldn’t kill me if I told her, especially if I explained. My step dad tho is different. I don’t know what his stance is, he knows I’m beisexual but he leaves me alone about it. I think he’s fine with the sexualities but not the gender stuff, I heard him call a drag queen on TV the F slur.. I want my family to accept me but I’m worried about my step dad.

Come out if it would make you feel better, but also be sure you're a bit prepared mentally and, if it feels necessary, financially (if u live with them) for a bad response. I haven't came out yet as bi but I'll only do so when I move out because idk I know nothing is wrong with me and hearing negative, irrational shit all the time would take a toll on me. For my fellow aces/aros who feel they need to come out.
    I felt I had to come out to my parents not because of the pride or media (of which there is little for ace representation), but so it would stop the comments like “you will understand it when you have kids of your own” or “they’re cute you could marry them”.
    It probably depends on how accepting your parents. My parents didn’t kick me out, but they weren’t happy. They decided to ignore it. My problems didn’t stop.
    Sorry this turned into an essay, but I just wanted to share my story. Coming out isn’t the same for everyone and it isn’t easy. If you decide to I wish you the best of luck.

    I watched a video from Kat Blaque that I thought explained the whole "k!nk at pride" discourse pretty well. She suggested having a section that's 18+ and checks IDs for the more serious stuff. And I agreed with her quite a bit. I also want people to consider older minors when they talk about making a specific "kid friendly" pride. Because not all of us are going to like the same things as, say, a 10 year old. Ya know? We need to see older queer adults because (I'm just assuming here) most of us don't know how our futures might turn out.

    I'm pansexual and I haven't come out to my parents just because I don't feel the need to, because I know my parents are accepting (since they have helped other LGBTQIA+ people), I'll just see when I'm in a relationship with someone, how they'll react

    • @user-dg3ug7ny5d

      I don't know what I am, aside from being a human, but that is still under constant question too. When I choose to have a relationship in the future, I guess I'll go from there. I don't think labels are something that need to be discussed as something permanent, as many people do re-label themselves later on, and this causes more destructive actions when they re-question themselves under the impression that that's not acceptable in this community. Labelling is what I see as the equivalent to cooperating with the beliefs of our heteronormative society, and there's already so much ingrained homophobia, or "carried-over" homophobia, in our community. Of course, being able to find others with the same, or a compatible sexuality, is important too, and I think the future is going to be interesting in developing something technological, or just changing our societal views and understandings, to aide in this.

      @@mareverbeek4828 That's awesome that you have people in your life that share your views. I've seen so many arguments over the "gaykeeping" of labels and people seeing it as being nosy and controlling over the decision if others can or should label themselves. It's a large topic which I think really needs to be discussed, and I think it blends into that of what information you should provide when wanting to date and/or hook up with someone, online and in reality. Specifically, people who identify as being trans. Should they, for the sake of the other party/ies involved, identify as their assigned sex before re-assignment surgery and their assigned gender, or should that not matter and if the other/s involved dislike a certain sex or gender, it's their fault? There are so many things that need to be discussed, but there are so few places that aren't shadowed by homophobia, destructive or backwards views from the past, and people who push their own personal beliefs, whether consciously or not. Sometimes, I also don't know whether I'm "allowed" to talk about this stuff either, as I'm neither a labelled queer person or a professional on these matters. Sorry about that! Just some feelings on this stuff. Stay safe

    I know my parents know that I'm not straight, but I've never told them, they just know, and I know they know. The thing is, my parents (mostly my mom) are clearly trying to force me out. She isn't rude, I think she just wants to hear it from me, I just don't feel ready.

    • @user-dg3ug7ny5d
      @user-dg3ug7ny5d 3 года назад +4

      I'm not going to say what to do about that, it's your life and your family relationships on the line. I do want to say though, I have the same feeling from my family too. It was my birthday a few weeks ago, and generally when you blow out your candles, the number of attempts corresponds towards the number of boyfriends or girlfriends you have, which is dependent upon what your opposite sex is. So, being female, generally I get told, "Yay, you have one boyfriend!", but that didn't happen this time. Instead, one of my younger cousins was about to say something along the lines, until my aunty quickly told them not too. Also, they're really concerned about me not having a boyfriend yet. Haha! To be fair, my "excuse" of just wanting to focus on school isn't completely false, because senior school is an arsehole: you might get something out of it, but if you're stuck in a constant state of constipation, it's absolute hell. Good luck, and think through it first before telling anyone. Your mum may just think you telling her would help you be more confident about yourself, but you don't need to tell anyone ever, if you don't want to, or aren't ready yet. Of course, if you realise your mental, physical, or emotional state weakening because of any guilt about not telling anyone, talk to someone you trust. Just, don't cooperate with those who are essentially bullying you into coming out. I hope I didn't say anything wrong. Stay strong and, if you're close enough to your parents to have conversations, I recommend asking their opinions on the LGBTQIA+ community first, to see if they would respect you if you do choose to come out. If they disagree with it, I would choose to keep myself safe first, and not continue to approach that subject. I don't know where you are along your journey, but I hope I could help in any way possible. Take my invisible virtual hug if you need it.

    I think a pride day/weekend festival might be nice in the cooler months focusing less on celebration and more on education. It could be family friendly, helping normalize things that might still be lagging behind in pride month. For younger children it would focus on teaching what different sexes are, more inclusive pronoun options and what they mean (which could also help the parents or people who're confused) as well as acceptance for children who might have different sex parents or friends who might have them. I know it can become tricky navigating social settings as a kid when your peers are asking why you have a trans parent etc. Even getting used to your parents preferred pronouns can be difficult at first and sometimes hurtful if you aren't able to switch to new pronouns quickly. For older kids there can be book options that can be recommended or given out that are written by an author in the community or have a main character who might be questioning or queer presenting. For teens/adults it would be nice if there was a booth for discreet sti/pregnancy test, and a safe area to talk to other people if you need advice coming out or if you don't know how to be a supportive ally. Everyone would be welcome but encouraged to keep a pg dress code.

    Happy Pride! Something for people to watch is an awesome video Veridis Joe did on pride with a section dedicated to sex related stuff at pride and explained that it’s just a consent issue. There are people who are survivors of SA who deserve to enjoy pride too, but aspects of it can be incredibly triggering to be around. Then you also have people who are teens and younger, they’re still minors who can’t consent. It’s just respectful to make pride safe for everyone. Then just reserve sex related stuff for events and spaces specific to that.
