🔹//DESCRIPTION\\
In this video, Jay is working on building a deck and encounters several challenges. He starts by addressing an issue with the joists not being aligned properly, and has to adjust and secure them. He also discusses leaving the joists slightly elevated to account for potential shrinkage as they dry out.
Jay then moves on to installing the joist hangers, using a combination of smaller nails and larger structural nails to ensure stability. He runs into a problem with one of the joists not fitting properly, and has to cut and adjust it to get it in place.
Next, Jay focuses on laying out the blocking pieces to provide support and prevent the joists from shifting. This requires some precise measurements and cutting to ensure everything lines up correctly. He also has to consider how to accommodate the garage door opening.
Towards the end, the narrator admits he is feeling a bit burnt out and needs a break. He plans to take some time off for the holidays and resume the project after the new year. Overall, the video demonstrates the challenges and problem-solving involved in a complex deck-building project.

"try the ox challenge" Ray throws the level at the joists sideways. Had me dying hahaha
Dude had me freaking dying laughing to he straight chucked it at the joists 😂😂😂😂
I'm only 2 minutes in and dying laughing at what I assume is Pepe the goat screaming in the background.
I thought i was going crazy hearing my downstairs neighbours yelling, I was pausing and playing it to make sure i wasnt insane.
Lol bro I thought my baby was crying and it about gave me a panic attack
@@benjaminprue4463 I thought the same damn thing. Even looked at the baby monitor to see what was up. Kiddo was moving but not crying, and I got so confused.
Pepe’s younger brother
Really enjoy seeing how far you and Ray have progressed as carpenters from where you started years ago.
The optimism and confidence that this video will be out before your family visits so they'll know what's happening *two months ago* is hilarious. 🤣
Great to see that you and Ray are still friends. Still waiting for pics of Ray's kitchen.
I'd love to see an update of the kitchen works. 👍
I was thinking the same
Bro, it has been two and a half years since Ray stepped away from the channel. Ray obviously wants to keep his personal life personal. Stop asking.
I don't think He has a kitchen anymore to show, and He is keeping his personal life private. hope he is doing good though
Following
The banter from Jones and you Jay always make any building project you guys do so enjoyable to watch. This project is looking more massive now with the bearers in, it's going to look even more impressive once the walls go up.
All the hard work you're putting in on this project that new Bear bed is going to help your aching body out heaps...
Cheers for the reel Brother...
"I love you Erik if you're watching this" LOL!
I hope you use some weather tape on the topside of your joists? It really makes a huge difference from allowing any water to sit on top of the wood. Tape or paint keeps any standing water from rotting your joists. I built a huge deck over 20 years ago and the joists are completely solid because I painted the topside of the joist with 2 coats of expoxy based paint. Some old carpenter from Louisiana taught me that common sense money saving technique. He has a old hunting lodge over 45 years with zero water damage in the swap. The roof is 1 coat expoxy paint, berlap cloth and 3 coats of more expoxy paint, his foundation is galvanized steal posts coming out of concrete all with 2 coats of epoxy paint. That building will be around for hundreds of years. People don't know how to mix expoxy into regular paint and how cheap it is compared to maintenance and rot over time.
Nice job, Ray and Jay! You guys work great together and have the ability to laugh when things don't go according to plan. Waybto improvise.
Happy New Year and congratulations on 100,000 subscribers! Proud to say I was one of your original subscribers!!
Thank you! I appreciate the support.
It's looking so good. To think this all started because you fell through a drywall ceiling. You've come very far. Amazing
It sure has! It's been a long time coming.
If you try a Rode wireless mic, you can get rid of almost all the clipping on your audio, which would up the production value massively. The wirelss go connects to a gopro with the media mod, so you wouldn't have to match up the audio either.
I was trying to think of a constructive way to say this. Love the channel, but man is it distracting when you hear clipping or big changes in the dynamics of the audio.
@CurtisBotzer Yes, exactly. I always look forward to the videos, but sometimes it gets a little distracting. It's just a shame that something that is so easy to fix is so detrimental. Nobody is expecting a Hollywood production, but getting the basics correct will help keep the focus on the content.
Yeah, audio was tough on this one. I did buy a new DGI so I’m getting rid of the GoPro. Hopefully that will help.
Builder Buddies back at it.
Hey Ray!!!SO man…you mild mannered rocker always show up when your friends need yah.🤟🏻👌💯
Congratulations on the 100,000 subs. It is great that you have such a good buddy in Ray. The 2 of you work so well together. The mega deck is going to look amazing when you are done.
Sounds is a little rough, thanks for the video.
Yeah, I bought a new DGI today so out with the GoPro. Hopefully that will be better.
Congratulations on the 100k!
I used my palm nailer on all those bracket nails. The nailer has a magnetic tip. You stick your nail on it and place the nail point where you want it started and drive it home in 2 secs. Best use for palm nailer! Fast
Jason and Ray, this is sooooo good! I think you guys are doing such an amazing job! I love watching your slowly put this together. It is really looking good.
You guys get a mic for the ads! Would help for other sections of videos too where it's hard to hear on the phone mic.
The phones mic also clips quite a bit when Jay is talking close to it. A better mic will help with that.
Congratulations!! I just noticed that you have 100 k subscribers!! We enjoy your videos
Congrats to Bob and Martha on their 50th wedding anniversary🎉.
It's great that you and Ray are such good friends. You both seem like stand-up guys who are always there for their family and friends. I'm not quite sure what you are building. Obviously, you are going to build some sort of enclosure on top of the deck that you need a garage door. It looks great. You always make me laugh.
Ray, Jay and shenanigan, always worth watching
So relatable, fixing mistakes as you go-this is how every home project feels. Can’t wait to see how it all comes together!
Oh yeah daddy, you’re gettin’ it ????😂
Oh yeah, congratulations on the 100,000+ subscribers brother! I've been watching your channel for about 2 years now and the content is great and getting better! Good job and atta boy!
The Stabila challenge is all in the wrist. 😂
You know you’re good when you measure your lumber in time.
Merry Christmas, & A happy Blessed New Year!🙏🏻
That deck is big enough to land a big helikopter !!! 🤣🤣 Good job guys👍💪💪
Hey Jay, grats on reaching 100k subs!
Ya know, given the downward slope of your yard under this deck addition, you could have stepped the new deck down 2 steps from the original deck. This would have completely eliminated any need to do anything with the original deck it terms of tying new deck joists into existing deck joists, just secure a ledger down 12" (for 2 6" steps down) across existing deck perimeter and hang new deck structure from the ledger. Would also have saved you lumber of your new deck support posts, as well as lowered the new deck railings 12" below existing deck railings, thus opening views from both the house and the existing deck across new deck to the yard beyond. Would also have created a discrete "room" comprised of the new deck addition. Just a thought.
9:00 Ray like the neighbor from Home Improvement. 😆
Coming along nicely.
Hey there! I watch your videos all the time. Love them and you’re very creative and funny. I was just wondering when you guys are going to start working on the new addition? 😊
I stole them fair and square 😂😂😂 Jay!!! Jaime is going to have a talk with you. 😂😂😂
You better not forget to put flashing tape over the top of those joists to make them last an extra couple decades.
Hey Jay the headboard you made for your bed still looks flipping awesome! Good work brother!!
Happy New Year Jay and family. Congratulations to Bob and Martha on their wedding anniversary, such an accomplishment 🎉. Also, Happy New Year to Ray, such an awesome mate for giving you a hand. Make sure Jason that you take a well deserved break. We will still be here, don't want you to be burnt out.
love you bro
Congratulations on your 100K.🥳🎉🎊🏆
Congrats Bob & Martha!
Jay you don’t have a sawzall you have a DeWalt so you have a reciprocating saw 🤣🤣🤣..
Stay Safe 🇺🇸👊🏼👊🏼✌🏼🔨🪚
Great video, Jason! One thing tho, PLEASE wear work boots so you don't end up smashing your toe again! I have say, Jason, you are so very lucky to have a friend like Ray Jones! He's always there for you and he knows his job well. Both of you are good workers so happy to see how far this project has come, I would love to have a deck that size! Hope you enjoyed your time off, Happy New Year!
Congratulations on 100k
You guys work great together lol!! don’t know how you find time to build your stuff and work on the perkin crew. Love it all !! Stay safe now! Mike Peabody,Massachusetts 6:54
They get a three day weekend every week thankfully so I’m sure that helps with the time
Love the progress boys!! Keep at it!!
Well done you catching that burnout before it gets too bad. Spend some extra time with that BEAR. Nice work so far on that deck!
Man this looks like it’s big enough to be a guest wing of your house!
Great video like always Jay. Keep on doing them...!
Jay will make anyone laugh 😂😂😂
Loving the video, they are getting better and better and so funny, incidentally the when put on sizes on a long piece to make it much better to get the information you need is called a story pole I think it is one of my favourite tools on site. Looking forward to the next installment of " Jay's Way" stay safe J
Ray is an awesome individual and friend. 💯
so awesome that Ray Jones is able to help you out
holy smokes congratulations on the 100k
Jay invest in some DJI MIC 2's They are 32bit float which means if you even shout into them you wont have them spiking when you do the edit. You can merely just pull down the levels. Also if you are using your phone. Im sure you can get an adapter to plug in the bottom as I'm sure thats an iPhone you using.
Super progress!!! Thanks for posting. Enjoy your time off Jay!!!
How big it’s that deck , the new extension. Thanks guys .
Good luck , you are growing fast .
He had Ray's square 😂😂😂
Great video , Jay 👍
I really enjoy your projects this one especially. I be looking for the next video on this everyday. I be so disappointed when they come to an end. I understand what has to be in order to give us these videos but I still feel this way. Jay, keep me feeling this way
Y'all have a great time working together always make me laugh it's looking good guys
Your mystery bird sounds like a Blue Jay.
I laughed at the smoke detector base still on the wall over the wood stove...I can imagine what happened to it.
Congrats to 100k followers! Keep up the good work! Always fun to follow you and the Perkins-boys :)
I finally made it!! Thank you so much for explaining the details of what you are doing. You are almost like Jaime! I like the details in case I come across the same situation. KUTGW & see you in the next video.
Jones is a true friend man and off that he is 1 off h best persons to have as a friend im sure
Congrats on hitting 100k!
Another great video! Love watching you and Ray when I’m having a bad day…you guys always make me laugh. Thanks for that!😊
Great video Jay, really like how you and ray can have fun but still get work done. Always have to laugh for sure. Congratulations on the 100k. Enjoy your vacation with the family.
I like this series more than the mega house the Perkins are building. Wish Jay had more time to upload more videos.
🎉CONGRATULATIONS FIR 100K+!
listening with headphones and kept thinking that goat or whatever was my kids calling me!!!
love what you are doing .
Ray is good people
Hi Jay. Watching from St Andrew Jamaica 🇯🇲
You breath so hard in gopro 😂 deck is looking good
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to your family Jay and Ray's and be careful and be safe.
Did Jason call out Perkins brothers for all that wet wood shrinkage issues they had. Lol
Poor Ray, he has to work so hard to keep Jay focused.
I admire your guys hard work your on Perkins Bros and you do your own content. Great job keep up the good work
Happy holidays
Thanks for content
At 4:27 you can see that old band dives off to the left. That’s probably your 1” gap you mentioned.
Good eye!
@@rafadacosta1675 It is those last 3 joists on the existing deck that seem to be the problem. They just get shorter and shorter.
Way to hit that 100k Jay. Keep it up brother. 🤟
The bird at the 30 minute mark sounded like a Robin.
I am dying to know how much this deck is costing you lol great work guys, I'm loving the progress ❤
Cost is no issue when making the wife happy!! Lol
@@Building_Jays_Way oh agreed!
Enjoy your time and recharge your batteries, I’m sure Ray could use a break too!❤😂
Here’s a little tip for you. Next time don’t split your rim board on a joist. This gives you 3/4” nail off. Instead, let it fall inbetween joist layout and install blocking then let your rim band meet. There’s much more meat to tie down your rim board.
WoooHooo! 100K Subs! Well deserved.
Congrats on 100K jay... hey that rhymes.
Looks great. 💯
25:37 that’s what she said
Amazing video!
Thank you!
Loving this project. One note, some parts of the video are much louder than other parts.
It’s looking great y’all!
Is that a goat laughin in the background?
Great job man I love watching y’all happy holidays
Awesome team, awesome project and you guys made some real progress, Jason!
Can someone get this man a new microphone for his camera 😊 Awsome video ❤
