Åh herregud va fint. Ibland önskar man bara att man kunde tillbringa åtminstone en dag i 1960-talets Stockholm!
Absolutely! But politicians destroyed paradise because they cared more about power and popularity than keeping the standards and protecting their country!

Looked better than today for sure
People used to dress so nice!
In parts that may be true, but actually so much of what was shown here looks exactly the same only with cleaner facades. Much of the destruction we might regret today had already taken place in 1966. Stockholm is still a very beautiful city but as any city it certainly has its lesser parts and it is of course much more busy. Growing and shaping an old city has its challenges.
Not really, I know all these locations and to 99% they look exactly the same. The people and the cars look different (maybe that's what you referred to?), and less traffic back then which of course would have been nicer.

Back in Time when Stockholm was Swedish city. Now it's a multi-cultural hellhole.
I used to visit Stockholm on business during the 60s, not an immigrant in sight. Never been there since.
Probably wouldn't recognise the place now.
You should visit again 😅
Or more like, there were actual Swedes roaming the streets at that time. There still are now, but to a lesser degree unfortunately. This is why Sweden has deteriorated over the last 25 - 30 years.
@@Jeff-bd5yo there no less degree of Swedish people, but there are so much immigrants that it seems like Swedes left the country for the last 10 years.
@@Jeff-bd5yo I grew up in Stockholm in the 1970s, immigrants where here and there everywhere. Our population has grown a lot though which is due to immigration it grown so much (way more than say Denamrk/Norway).
@@PMMagro Well of course, no one would suggest that there were 0 immigrants, and there were some. Although interestingly enough they were almost exclusively from European countries and even then they were quite limited in numbers compared to today.

Like a collection of post cards. But I miss the dirtier parts as well, like old Lugnet and the garages there. I as an artist could spend days there buying scrap metal and engine parts for our vehicles. Now that area is a complete soul less hipster area if you ask me. Sure I know people like it but I still miss the noises from cranes, machines and old boats. Same can be said about the southern parts, now I can still recognize some buildings and they are for sure better taken care of. There were live music in many small clubs and simple restaurants playing blues, jazz and rock, some were underground clubs. I hope that culture hasn't died yet. I haven't seen Sweden in decades. I actually feel more for the videos filmed in the 20's, 30's knowing my grand parents worked and lived there.
Nu är det bara 25% av befolkningen som kommer ihåg när Sverige var Svenskt, jag är en av dem och det berättar jag om för kommande generationer.

Supposedly before their switchover to right-side driving in 1967 but I see many cars with steering on the left side.

Any chess players here? In which building was the Stockholm Interzonal of 1962 held?
Not a chess player but I've tried to find out. From 0:28 to 0:59 you can see the entrance for Kungshallen at 44 Kungsgatan. Someone said most games were played there. Others might have been played in or around the Royal Tennis Hall. The last rounds were played in the City Hall, 10:39 to around 12:00.

As a native Swede who emigrated to the US at an early age, in my opinion Sweden's heydays were the 50's - the 70's. Sweden's still an amazing nation, but it lost its uniqueness & moral superiority when it chose to imitate America in the 80'-90's The next big blow came when it joined the EU, & became a "European" country, rather than a "Scandinavian" one, allowing Brussels to dictate it's economic policies. The final nail in it's coffin will be when it (stupidly) joins NATO, & the Anglo-American alliance requires it to be militarily obedient to Washington & the trillion $ war industry.
I disagree about NATO. A united military makes all members much stronger. Sweden will both be powerfully defended in case of attack, and will contribute to the preservation of the Western World and global order.
@@HeortirtheWoodwarden 1st off, thanks for your respectful disagreement. In my opinion, Sweden has enjoyed neutrality for centuries based on a high level of readiness & a very good (for a small nation) military infrastructure. If attacked, the world would come to it's defense, NATO member or not. It has no strategic benefit to be attacked, & by not being a NATO member, it wasn't lumped in when another NATO member nation like the US or Britain does anything abhorrent (like attacking a non-aligned nation like Iraq under the pretense that it had weapons of mass destruction, or supported terrorists), neither were true, but NATO attacked it, & now all NATO nations are targets of terror. + I don't like how NATO forces all member nations to submit their intelligence & military secrets to DC & London, & finally forces it's members to buy from their defense contractors. It's a sovereignty issue for me.
@@JonnyDee Saddam Hussein was a terrible dictator and deserved to fall. And the sharing of information is vital for an effective military force. The interconnectedness and coherence of NATO really makes a difference compared to just promising to defend you.
@@HeortirtheWoodwarden Saddam Hussein was indeed, but there are plenty of terrible dictators, & we don't invade, bomb, & kill thousands of their citizens.
Saddam was a bad guy for sure, but you know what he wasn't, but Saudi Arabia was? A leader of a nation that had weapons of mass destruction, & whose citizens were responsible for 9/11 - both manufactured justifications for the Iraq war,...but I digress, this was regarding Sweden's joining NATO, which I feel is a mistake.

Before Cultural Marxism.
I don't think you know Sweden then.. Sweden was more socialist then, than now. So rather this was before neoliberalism that sold out everything since the 90's
@@ramn1232 He's talking about cultural aspects, not economics
@@hanspeter4732 Culturally, Sweden was really reeally marxist in the 60's and 70's. What has happened the last decades is a result of neoliberalism seeping into the culture. Not marxism?
It was not yet a Marxist in its entirety, only a part of the youth, since neo-Marxism only began to be predominant in the late 60s thanks to the work of the KGB and the Frankfurt school. It was still a liberal society. By the way, lefty, who told you that neoliberalism arrived in the 90s? It began with "new day" Keynesianism.
@@fachopobre don't know if you're refering that to me, but I suppose so.
You say "It was still a liberal society"...? Before the 60's?? You have to be kidding me.
Sweden was governed by "Sveriges socialdemokratiska arbetareparti", the Social Democratic Workers' Party of Sweden, (how liberal do you think that sounds?) for over 40 yeras straight! That's an insane support for the party and its' politics, if you can't tell.
And at that time the Social democrats were actual ideological socialists, radicals in some cases, not at all as liberal-washed as they are today.
In the famous "Folkhemmet"-speach in the Riksdag 1928 Prime minister Per Albin Hansson talks about the Social democrats future politics of building Sweden by nationalizing, and specifically names themselves socialists.
Both Prime minister Tage Erlander and Olof Palme also described themselves as socialist and marxist, and talked about "economic democracy" as the last step in democratizing Sweden. Economic democracy means giving the political sphere influence over the economic sphere. Pretty marxist don't you think?
So marxism clearly wasn't prevalent in "only a part of the youth", but at the top of the political agenda for decades and half a century.
I don't know if you're swedish, but it would be really embarassing if you are. Either you don't know shit about the country's history or you're twisting it to fit your ideological view.
