I've never been in any church services or masses or whatever they're called, but I've became more and more interested in these origin stories over the years.

My mum isn't in any religion, but she loved the story of Lilith as Adams first wife so much, that she named me Lilith (it's my second name).
At school I had the subject religion. One day when I was six or seven years old my teacher asked me if I knew where the name was from and I said it was Adams first wife and she didn't belive me... All I can remember was that she said that my mum was stupid to name me after a demon.
The next week my mum printed out copy of a well known dictonary explaining the story of Lilith and took that to my teacher.

You've got only yourself to blame
There are two types of churches. The first church is founded by people who pursue transcendental principles and service a higher order of being. The second church is founded by the first church for containment and exploitation of the damned. Consider this: If there is no forgiveness or redemption in Christianity, once you have sinned once and doomed yourself, there isn't a reason to have restraint for rape and murder. In comes the second church - it is a political entity with empty rituals and social networking to get destructive fringe elements to be profitable in a material sense or at least neutralized in a criminal one. It does this by preaching tolerance, forgiveness, redemption, and offering some means of social integration.
Everyone has access to the higher order principles, and anyone can found a first church. Every civilization reaches its apex with an order of esoteric mystics and warrior poets. God does exist, and he makes himself known to people who want to understand. Few people are curious though, and are satisfied with the bullshit rituals and empty platitudes because it provides security, identity, etc. For the curious though, there are frontiers of being worth pursuing if you are capable of asking the right questions.
@@Ptaku93 if I may. For anyone to ever blame someone else for not fully explaining everything, when they are capable of learning on their own....has only their selves to blame. Church/school/society/etc CAN NOT tell everyone what to think about everything (unless living in a dictatorship) because interpretation will be different for everyone. We need to stop expecting SO MUCH from everyone else but have small, if any, expectations of ourselves.

If you think about it you will realize that the only reason you think that there’s one particular god is because you have grown in a society which considers the Bible a “holy” book. The same Bible which contains Lilith, the Nephilim, Satan, talking snakes and countless other imaginary things. Either you believe that everything the Bible says is true and therefore those things are real or you believe a lot of it is just myths and parables. If the latter how do you know what is real and what is myth? How do you know that god is not just another myth?
And please don’t come up with “without god there’s no reason to restrain from rape and murder”! Humans are a social species and as all social species they have *evolved a cooperative behavior* because it is vital for survival. If aggressive behavior against the members of their own group were rife humans would have got extinct ages ago. Besides, as the countless cases of sexual abuse of children in churches show, Christianity rather promotes rape than being a deterrent. And all stats show that secular countries have lower criminality rates than religious ones.

I literally started wheezing when I realised that there is a possibility that some of the people in ancient times heard a desert owl (Strix hadorami) sometime in the night and got scared shitless after seeing them stare back at them with their big ol eyes. I love how Trey's consistent premise is that all sorts of cryptids and religious creatures around the world have possibly been mistaken for owls. This is amazing.
Edit: just watched the rest of the video and my point still stands. I wouldn't be surprised if the demon herself was inspired by the creatures of the night, so while she wasn't necessarily an owl in the original designs, that doesn't change the possibility of humans getting scared by owls throughout eons.

As a Christian I find this really interesting. I was always confused as to why people thought Lilith was his first wife but this makes a lot of sense.
Most scholars agree it refers to an owl though. As much as piecing together the myth has done to explain it's persistence it relies on a lot much later interpretative work.
It make no sense at all. This is put out by a non believer and should be taken as such.
Chapters 1 and 2 was written by Moses, that is it, no one else and both chapters are about the 6th day of creation. Chapter 1 tells the reader that God created male and female. Then on the 7th day God rested. Chapter 2 just goes into more detail of the creation of the two. That's it, nothing more. Moses tells us that God senses Adam's loneliness so He makes a help mate by putting Adam in a deep sleep then takes a rib from his side. From this rib He creates Eve.
Remember, this is still the six day of creation, in chapter 1. There is no Lilith, who disobeys and runs off, that is ridiculous. If the Lilith story is true, then God is not who He says He is, sovereign. Chapter 3, the fall of man, is meaningless, Lilith would have already sinned against God, the rest of the Bible, bogus. Just like the word "day" in Genesis 1 meaning millions of years, is just impossible, so Lilith being created in chapter 1 and Eve in chapter 2, also impossible.
Lilith is a man made myth.

From my research, (correct me if I'm wrong I'm not an expert I'm just writing an ameteur essay on the origins of writing, I'm not qualified in linguistics or history) i understand that the epic of gilgamesh is the oldest piece of fiction discovered, and with the Mesopotamian culture being as influential to the surrounding areas as it was it shouldnt be surprising to see many similarities. However i do think the sheer amount of similarities is pretty incredible, it seems like the epic of gilgamesh is the root for a huge amount of tales and mythology and while to me its not strange to see links to Gilgamesh every now and again I am always surprised to see how, quite frankly, astoundingly influential the poem really was.

You need to research deeper since gospels have come to light like the Gospel of James the brother of Christ, the gospels of Barnabus, Barabus and Judas Escariot. Im trying to write a fictional novel ( Im just an amateur really ). When I first read/heard about lilith, I conjured a story in my mind that goes like this :
Adam and Lilith was created by God
Lilith was too evil so God banished her away from the Garden of Eden.
Lilith met lucifer ( who was already banished from heaven ) and asked lilith to trick Adam and Eve onto eating the fruit of the tree of good and evil
Lilith sneaked into the the garden and disguised herself as a serpent ( with legs. In Biology it is believed that snakes had legs before they evolved into their current form by the way ) and tricked eve onto eating the fruit.
God punished lilith ( who was still in a form of a snake ) and removed her arms and legs
God then banishes Adam and Eve from the garden who are now mortals.
On the other side of the story the Angel Azrael was the keeper of the Garden of Eden. Using his tool the scythe to cut grass and keep the garden neat and tidy. As he was the keeper of the garden, God told Azrael to keep an eye on Adam and Eve to make sure they don't eat the fruit from the forbidden tree.
Since Azrael failed on keeping Adam and Eve from eating the fruit of the forbidden tree, he was punished by God by changing his task from being the keeper of the Garden ( he loved being the keeper of the garden ) to being the keeper of life and death.
And so so now Azrael cuts life with his scythe regardless if it was long or short just like how he used to cut the grass in the Garden of Eden regardless if the grass was tall or not.
Thus he became the Angel of Death.

Hi Trey, I'm a new fan of your channel and I love what you do :)
I'm Israeli, and we learn bible (תורה) as part of our curriculum from 1st grade all the way to graduating high school.
A lot of the bible gets mixed up in translation from Hebrew to other languages, I think that this is because in Hebrew, Everything is written as either Male or female.
for Example: Truck (משאית) in hebrew is Female, while Engine (מנוע) is Male... it's kind'a hard to explain, but it affects every piece of written and spoken text in Hebrew.
Lilith is considered to be a "She-devil", like you said a form of succubus, and is taught as such at schools.
Qippoz is referring to a type of Brown fish owl, which is native to Asia and was once native to Israel as well...
I'm no expert in any way, i'm not religious either... I just find it funny how things can get lost in translation from one language to another ;)
Agreed, the best works are those who also mentions the blunt translation instead of only 'names'. Ninkurra ("Lady of the Pasture"), something like this which in anthropology explains so much more in this manner the mythology stories.
In some irony, within the Owl House, Lilith is still associated with an 'owl demon', just she causes the curse.
A lot of these comments are connecting Lilith and owls… maybe Dana did it on purpose !

Thanks for showing a picture of a barn owl, which makes a loud screeching sound, as opposed to a screech owl, which makes a peaceful trill call. People unfamiliar with the barn owl's call often get very frightened if they hear it at night and don't know it's source. Same thing with the Lilith perhaps.
Very interesting video! I checked my Norwegian copy of the bible and Lilith was just translated as Lilit, but qippoz was translated as "small owls" which I found interesting. The whole verse of the qippoz taken out of context just makes it sound like a children's verse about owls and falcons (not vultures) laying eggs.
That Sumerian/Akkadian Lilith picture will haunt my dreams.
Also, from what I’m hearing, Judaism and therefore Christianity used to be a whole lot more fun/terrifying.
Please tell me next time you're making a biblical themed video! I speak Hebrew and learnt Bible, and it seems like there's a lot of places in this video that looks like you could use some help from someone who knows the language. The Bible is weird, the original one even has stuff like switching letters that mean the same words and other weird things. I love the videos! Would love to see more.
