I always enjoy the DIY videos because they show variety in skill versus diecast models but also because it’s what you wanna show Royce and I very much appreciate it. #glovesandcreakyturntables

Thank you Casey. I know these kinds of videos upset many when I post them, but they help pay for the die cast videos, which many do not understand that. I like your hashtag... lol!

I purchased this same replacement for my 2000 VW Golf. That plastic ridge along the back prevents it from sliding in all the way which prevents the side tabs from clicking into place. I returned it.

is it possible to lift the radio up into that spot and put the cupholder under it. this is possibly the worst place ever for a cupholder

yea i realized the one i bought is for a 2002 golf 4 which is a bit longer, the website i used said it would fit though, so i'll either have to return it or cut off the plastic.

Anyone know if I can install this in a mk5 golf? I'm replacing the stock double DIN head unit with a single DIN and would be nice if I can put the sliding cup holder in the other slot.

Best way to fix a piece of broken VW interior?
Buy a car from any other brand not VW.
There is precious little else in the auto industry that rivals the pisspoor quality of VW interiors.

Um, okay.... Its an '03, so it's not exactly new and has been a super reliable car considering it's a turbocharged car. Plus, we have NO money right now to buy another car.

      Just sell some HotWheels... ;)
Ive done auto detailing for years and years, and VW's have always been, hands down, one of the worst interiors to deal with. As you pointed out, the soft touch coating they use on everything is just a joke. It devulcanizes, and begins to get tacky, and peel. It is one of the worst materials used in any interior i know. You cant clean it with anything other than mild soap and water. Anything with any detergent in it will cause it to rot. Even certain interior dressings do not play nice with that stuff either. VW knows this happens. They have even been sued over it, and yet they still continue to spray it all over everything, because the "soft touch" feel it gives lends the false perception of quality. Which means they use twice as much of it in Audis, and even some Porsches before they, thankfully, moved away from it.
Generally, their interiors are just very poorly engineered. I cant tell you how many broken or color mismatched center armrests ive seen on mk3 and up VW's. They snap off so easily, with very little force. The cup holders being mangled, like yours werem is also a very common problem. Ive seen so many of them super glued closed because they are so broken. Or just completely useless because they are stuck. And of course there is the whole issue of putting the cup holder right over primary use electronic components. I cant tell you how much Pumpkin Spice Latte i have sucked out of a VW head unit. And good luck if it happens to be a model with the "Climatronic" climate control unit below it. They dont take any amount of moisture well.
Then there are the seats, and the fabric and cushion material, and how quickly it stretches and wears out. They also dont take well to stain removal. And i wont even get started on the mechanical problems, especially transmission related ones. That said, i would buy a TDi...but VW had to go and screw that up too!
Generally i take the "Friends done let friends buy VW's" approach to it. They very quickly go from being good cars, to being money pits, in a real hurry, and needlessly so. So i am glad yours has been relatively trouble free so far.

bigbuckoramma my interior looks great in my 08 beetle! And it did in my 99’ as well... and my 02’... just depends on who owns it. They’re solid cars except for the automatic transmissions. I have NEVER been stranded by any of my Volkswagen’s in my combined 95k miles between the 3.

    • @bigbuckoramma
      @bigbuckoramma 5 лет назад

@@gratigo1 A lot of that also depends on where you live, and how the car is stored. Considering you only have 95k between three vehicles that are that old, youre clearly not giving them the daily hot supper of a typical commuter car driven by the average Yob. A daily driven VW interior, that sees at least 50 miles a day, in some coastal or high UV index area, will simply fall apart over a couple of years. They dont hold up very well at all to use and heat.
There are hundreds of professional detailers that will all tell you the same thing. And that has been my experiences in the dozens and dozens of VWs Ive worked on.

bigbuckoramma I’ve only been driving for 4 years. I got my 99’ with 150k and drove it to 200k in two years with a 50 mile commute for work 5 days a week. Then I got my 08 with 9k and now it has 52k with literally no issues whatsoever. Then I got my 02 with 148k and I’ve only driven it a couple thousand miles (152k), but the previous owner had dogs... 3 big ass dogs and the interior has held up exceptionally well. Other than scratches on the passenger window and a couple on the door panel it looks fantastic. I drive a lot, I just take care of my cars.
