  • Creatinine levels increase primarily due to impaired kidney function. Each kidney contains millions of nephrons, which filter waste from the blood. When nephrons are damaged or diseased, they can't effectively filter creatinine, causing its levels in the blood to rise. Common causes of kidney damage include chronic kidney disease (CKD), acute kidney injury (AKI), glomerulonephritis, polycystic kidney disease, and conditions like diabetes and hypertension. Monitoring creatinine levels is crucial in assessing kidney health and function, as elevated creatinine can indicate a decline in kidney performance, necessitating further medical evaluation and intervention.
