- This is a homage to Fremont Street in Las Vegas from a dirt road to multimillion dollar extravaganza. I made this video during the CoVid shut down to fill the time. To create this piece I reviewed a multitude of images through Google and RUclips searches and Facebook pages and enhanced them to 1080p using a variety of techniques. I also used movie and television shows, music videos and my own archives. Great thanks to Ginger Bruner for her photos and my consultants Anthony Bondi, Joshua Abbey, Brian Paco Alvarez, Rick Hooper, Dennis McBride, Jay Nietling, Tom Hawley and others who I have missed. Thanks to the city of Las Vegas the Early Years for their wonderful footage. • The City of Las Vegas:...

@koisamis8597 I think he is referring to the rest of the world obviously otherwise they wouldn't have commented. Hence they watched it.
The amount of progress from 1905 to 1935 alone is amazing. Imagine living in Las Vegas just during that time and all the change you would’ve seen.
This was so much fun to watch! I appreciate the amount of time, work, and expertise put into this video.
Great job! My favorite period is the neon 60’s. The new ceiling is cool, but Freemont looked so much prettier back then.
Since the Vegas architecture is always changing so quickly, it’s easy to forget Vegas has a fairly long history!
Ikr. I thought LV was a nothing place until Bugsy Siegal showed up.
It was truly amazing seeing the time lapse. I really liked this video. Thank you.
My first visit there was March 2023, I think I was about 35 years too late.
Excellent work! Brings back many memories from 50 years ago when I lived in LV. During 1973 I ran into Red Foxx playing slots at Binions, he was flanked by two big bodyguards. Great memories!
A cocktail waitress at The El Cortez told me last year that Redd Fox played keno there often..!!
She still works there over 50 years so far..
I am extremely impressed you found the Koyaanisqatsi clip. Very nice work putting all these together!
Beautifully done. Just WOW! A must see for Vegas lovers past and future. Thank you.
The music alone is outstanding…the photos are the “jackpot.”
Best compilation of Vegas growth video ever! That was awesome! Lived there a few years early 90’s! Was there many times/some Mint 400 off-road races,Nevada 2000 to Reno and back! Great memories!
Excellent!!
Worked Caesars front desk in 75 and 76 ..great memories!
60s looked phenomenal
1960s was gorgeous with all that neon...
Best I've seen on the subject. Gimme downtown, the true spirit of Vegas. Leave the strip (Amusement Park) for the tourists. Nice work & Thank You Sir!👍👍👍💫💫💫💫💫
This compilation is so good. It's interesting living in here now and passing by a building that used to be a check cashing place or a theater, chappel or whatever. So much history there. Thank you.
Loved Fremont Street back than. (60, 70 & 80's) No canopy, no resort fee and free packing. Loved Vegas back than. Thanks for looking back. 😊
Thank you for this awesome video of Las Vegas history, so cool to see how it all started.
Cant imagine living in Vegas without air conditioning.
Thanks so much for the history and pictures of a bygone era 😢. Truly against what has happened to the ambience there 😮!!
Wow, What an incredible history of this famous street and I glad you used movies, television, and music videos as references. I give this video a big 10. 😃😍❤✌👍👏🤟
Alot hrs went into production Very Nice
Excellent compilation of shots here so cool to see it grow. I wish I could have seen the Freemont of the old days with the classic neon.
This is gold
Awesome, thank you i really appreciate this. I can imagine all the footage you had to go through. Thank you!(: it was cool to see what it was and what it is. Great work!!
Glad i found this video, i just moved to las vegas and wanted to know more history about it especially the west coast 👍
Yo dude thank you for doing this Fremont street throughout the years this is my street right here Fremont street
Thank you taking the time to create such an incredible collection. Love the music too. Love this!❤
Hi Doug, really stunning footage. Working on a project which centers around vegas. Would you mind if I used a few of these clips? Specifically around 1930-1940
Sure. I grabbed the pictures by searching the internet and in many cases just tried to guess the date based on matching up the businesses and using the cars as a guideline.
This was so fun to watch thank you
got married out there neat to to see the changes over 30 years what a cool street
You forgot “Biffs” from Back to the Future only thing I think when I see that hotel on end 😊
That's a good one. I'll add it to the ongoing version of the piece.
A bit of a credit to the City of Las Vegas documentaries where some of the videos were borrowed. Hazards of Helen, etc. maybe add a link to those docs would help. Still, thanks for all the work you put into telling the story of Fremon Street a story that still need to be told in a mulit part set of specials. and thanks for my ghost image. bob stoldal
Wow, that’s outstanding. I started going in 93 and Fremont is my fave part of Vegas. 👍😎
Wow, well done. Thanks for putting in the time!
Outstanding. I cant wait to revisit this down the road when there are thousands of views and likes and be able to say I was in on the first 500 views and 20 likes
Good job!!! Greetings from Buenos Aires Argentina.
its great to look back at history ty
This is an excellent documentary thank u!
this is incredable
Amazing time history!
Excellent work. I logged in just to give you a compliment. 😊
Doug Jablin--Great work..going to post this fine video, and tweet it out..Epic Las Vegas history! great stuff! Another note--great to see that clip from 'The Cooler' in 2003--however, at 31:46, that 'Cooler' clip of Maria Bello and William H. Macy was filmed in Reno, Nevada. 98% of the Cooler was filmed n Reno--they say in the movie it is based in Las Vegas...
Thanks for the insight Bob.
#Wow! Great video of Fremont Street - - one note-- at 24.00 --The scenes from the movie, 'One from The Heart' were not taken in Las Vegas.
Those movie scenes were taken on sound stages at Zoetrope Studios --staging that was buiilt to 80% of scale...
Fantastic presentation!
Nice work Doug! Still got that amazing video touch 👏
Fremont Street, originally First Avenue, was a multi land purchase, sold in parcels , belonging to
Helen Stewart in 1902
Thanks, Kevin. I keep adding to the project off of RUclips and I'll include this information.

In 1952, 25000, acres of
of Western, Clark Co. -
Las Vegas, was acquired, as a future development, of upscale homes, businesses, & private schools
It's namesake belongs to
Jean Amelia Summerlin
Grandmother of
. Howard Hughes .
Was there in 92 and 93, then in 99, and went "What the he!! did they do to this place?
Johnny Ruiz and the Escapers! 702 baby
Excellent video
Been in Vegas since the end of 1954 almost 1955 Vegas was a beautiful town which i call my town.
Actually a Town Is under 6,000, vegas was 40,000 some or 50,000 some In The 50s decade which had made It a small city.
Once they stuck that canopy on it ruined it forever. That canopy was invite for homeless and those god awful street performers.
I've been to fremont street with and without the canopy...I still enjoy the light show but I can agree with u on the bums and ridiculous performers.....lol
Late 80s looks cool on film.
Amazing
Was waiting for 51 and Vegas Vic. I also remember a movie theatre downtown that for years only showed “Deep Throat”
One thing about Vegas is that it's a city of economics first. There's no sentimentality to be had. If it's old, decrepit and no longer making money, it's going to get knocked down and something bigger and better is going to be built in its place. That's why the skyline and vibe changes so much. In 100 years, we won't even recognize Vegas anymore from what it is today. Heck, maybe even in just 20-30 years, that'll already be true.
I’ve always say if you haven’t driven down Fremont St. you can never be a true Las Vegan. I worked as a craps dealer in the Golden Gate. It was less than a year before I came back to NJ skinny and broke.
What you mean? What happened that made you skinny and broke
@@larryclutch I gambled. I got addicted to blackjack and a lot of times I had no money to eat.
Would rather have kept the early theme of photos. It kind of morphed into a downtown Vegas in Hollywood movies anthology from 1970 on.
This is so cool! Is there any other videos like this?
Thanks, for the appreciation. This was the evolution of another idea that found it's own life. Since I've lived in Las Vegas most of my life and worked on Fremont Street and shot video of it over time it was a fun project to do during Covid when I wasn't working. Now that I'm working again the only related thing that I'm doing is updating the video on occasion, but not uploading the changes.
we were on vacation in 1958 I know cause of home movies. Dad let mom off wheile we parked. Moms inside pulling handles dad said moms gambling. A man was filming my older brother of 7 and me at 5 we were dressed like cowboys. Bob and I couldnt believe all the lights how could you forget,we didnt.
I use to cruise Fremont Street on Friday's from the Union depo which we use to call donut to Blue onion and up Charleston to seals.orwe go visit a friend at huntrige theater on Maryland parkway good ol Dan Murphy the we would go macayos Mex restaurant and order a big kesedilla.or go to the pizza den inside Charleston place and c louie martines or mike Martinez.. cruisen Fremont was fun George galindos boys and Paul Fisher good times
60s, 70s, 80s looks amazing. Now it looks like a plaza in hongkong
nice vid. vegas after 50's ich!
The worst thing that they did to Fremont Street was put that God awful canopy over it and turn it into a park. It's been deteriorating and will never be the same.
Totally agree. Horrible.
ABSOLUTELY AGREE. Seeing Las Vegas go from a cool place ,to this HORRIBLE way it now looks ....I was gkad I moved away. It is disturbing, especially to those who are Native Nevadans. They RUINED Fremont Street... it was Iconic....Now it's nothing special.
Nope.Disagree.Prevent all that heat from baking you.
@@JimmieHamilton-x5k If you can't stand the heat, go into a casino and gamble. 99% of the people there NEVER are staying at a hotel or are gambling at a casino. They are there for the free entertainment and outdoor bars. The place is a DUMP.
@user-ud9ow5yi7n if you can't stand the heat, go into a casino and gamble. I am a Vegas regular and 99% of the people out there are NOT gambling or staying at the hotels. They are drunk and there for the outdoor bars and free entertainment. Fremont Street has deteriorated dramatically over the years.
90s looked sparkly and dazzling on strip and downtown !! Mesmerizing - now just a bunch of obnoxious colors and huge tv screens 😮😢
I first visited in 1965 as a child then in 1979 as an adult. So much had changed. I remember in 1979 all the cheap food buffet for .99 steak dinner 2.00 it was to get you into the casino;s. It wasn’t quality food but edible.
What about Honeymoon in Vegas (1992)
Anyone know the make and model of car at 6:00?
I like the immediate change of the signs as soon as gambling was legalized! 1930 @4:57 ----1934 @5:46
Be cool to do one for strip
What's the building at the end of the street that keeps getting shown?
That's the train station that started it all.
@thirdivan
Ok. Is that where the Union Plaza Hotel is now? I figure because of the name.
That's right. There's still train service behind the hotel.
What’s the old White House in the back in 3:42 and 4:52
The railway station maybe.
@@thirdivan thx!
They took away sassy Sally and coin something, both I used to win at and they put in a McDonald's last time I was there. I was disappointed
? Wonder how they lived in Vegas without air conditioners?
24:38 What's the name of this song? Sounds so cool!
I acquired all of the copyright free music through Adobe.
whats the song you used in the early 50s and 80s
I used songs that I downloaded from Adobe Stock.
@@thirdivan 🇮🇹
This was an excellent video. However, the Rainbow 6 shot was unnecessary
My thought was how Fremont St. crossed not only into movies, tv, and music videos, but games as well.
1:27 1916 Haynes
2:23 1925
Are the dates wrong in the video?
@@thirdivan Just a tiny bit off, I only say this because I'm a car enthusiast and immediately recognized the car years based on vehicles. I think the second shot is all 1925 Hardtop Buicks so perhaps some sort of a dealership.
...looks like Femont turned into a 1990's mall, and you know where "malls" are today in 2023. I was born too late....
I think Las Vegas has lost its charme within the years.
