I welded a crowbar to the back of my Rolex and it got the back off so easily. The only downside is the watch movement and dial and glass need replacing now and the case and the strap.
@@giovanidiamonds it's got nothing to do with the price of the watch. the method he shows takes considerably longer than doing the job properly, it's much messier than doing the job properly and it wouldn't even work on watches that have even an average level of water resistance. @@j1spen736If you do not have a case back opener than the common alternative would be covering a knife in tape and carefully using it. That is not much better than what this guy showed and his method prevents scratching. You are just a hater
I bought a watch repair kit from Walmart. It was only 10 dollars and came with the proper tool for this and the tools to remove links from the band. I figured it was worth it since I own multiple watches
As long as it's a basic quartz watch with a back that is the same size as the watch face. If it's a "minimalist" style watch with the back being smaller than the face you have to use compressed air through the crown hole to pop the crystal out. Which sometimes can be done by using a piece of painters tape as a seal with a pin hole for air to get through and then holding a ball pump needle against it. But I wouldn't do that for an expensive watch. The jewelers knife is the tool you use to pry off the back. It looks like a knife but when you touch the blade you find it's not sharp, so you won't injure yourself or damage the watch with it. If you have never completely disassembled a watch before you should probably watch a video on quartz watch disassembly and assembly. You will need to identify the crown release on the movement for your specific watch. After you get the face out be careful not to damage the hands. Make sure they aren't bent to where they could hit each other when you reassemble.
I admit I was a hater and thought "This will never work." Just tried it on two watches and it worked amazingly. Didn't even need alcohol to remove the glue, just pried it off the cap when it was removed; super easy. Thank you!
Better idea: Just take your watch to a jeweler to get the battery replaced. Typically they'll do it for like $10 including the cost of the battery. And obv they know what they're doing just fine.
It’s hard to find a jeweler who knows how to replace a watch battery. Last time I went, the watch repair person put in a short-lasting battery and cost $20.
@@bikeman123 right. it is actually easier to use a dull penknife and look or the slot to put it in. In my case, though, this tip is useful as I had pressed the case back too much with a presser, where the notch went under.
Nice trick, when you get less watch tools but i think this only happen on watches with hand snap back case, not with the watches with machine press back case.
The problem is spinning it in the right place when it’s time to out it back after replacing the battery. I don’t have a hot glue gun and it’s about the same price as buying a watch repair kit.
Not all watches will have backplates that pop on so easily. A neat trick, to be sure, but as a guy who replaces watch batteries for a living, I have to say, if you're not the the type that is comfortable with learning new technical skills and getting some tools for said skills, definitely just take your watches to someone else who knows what the hell they're doing. I even have a watch I'm taking to a jeweler...
There is a groove on the inside of many case backs to allow clearance for the crown. If you're lucky, you'll break your crown while you're at it with this method kids!
This worked great for me! I appreciate the idea. I used: a carpenters pencil, more surface area, and I also covered the watch with hot glue as well as the pencil itself. Creates a lot of leverage for those stuck lids.
Open it with a screw driver a small screw driver there’s a little place on the back of the watch get the screw driver in that space push it hard and done it’s opened ✅
Can you at least put the case back correctly shits crooked .. one it’s going to bother me two you can possibly break or lock the stem it has a groove for the stem.. please let this be your last video. Brand new box blade use correctly works best.
Sometimes I’ve had luck with another technique, if it’s corroded a little bit of oil and a touch of acetone, the acetone drives the oil deeper. Just a thought👍
Duuude 😂😂😂 lucky you are not a watchmaker and I am not close to you. Would never ever let you touch my watches… Guys you can buy a watch case opening ball if it is screw down or for bit higher a proper tool to do this. Don’t glue random stuff to your watches, this is not the right way or even a way to open your watch back cover.

He's dealing with a quartz watch marked $1.99. I'm sure he's not doing this with an AP royal oak off shore

I’ll probably have to do the same Thanks !
Only works on loose none waterproof watches
A decent waterproof watch would laugh at this idea lol
So?

IT WORKED!!! It was so easy!!! Was struggling to remove my watch back and nothing worked until I tried your method. Thank you!!!
What kind of hot glue did you use to remove the cover ?
This is not the proper way to remove a watch case back.
Just purchase a watch kit, they are cheap and makes the job alot more simple to do

You can actually get the back of these off with a silicone mat, a rubber ball, or something similarly grippy.
That watch is a snap on back not a threaded back.

I change out about 300 watch batteries a month while the customers wait, I don't have time for this.
How'd you learn that? Thx. Short and sweet too.
If it's screwed, get a rubber ball. They are often used for this purpose.
If it snaps off, you use a case knife. If used properly, it will not slip
Yeah, the intense heat from the glue will likely warp the sensitive gears inside, but not a scratch on the case. LOL SMH
Excellent video. Thank you very much. I just replaced the battery on my watch. Thanks for this video. I really appreciate it.
Exactly what I need, because I had pressed the cover back too much with a presser and it went in too much.
It’s works!!! thank you so much!!!
Great tip 👍 Used this method on my Festina (rated to 6 BAR) and on my Tissot (rated to 20 BAR) and it worked like a charm 😊
Worked perfectly! Saving this as a useful tip for the future, thanks!

Sir, what is the solution you are using to stick the pencil? And what spray have you used to remove it? Great video.
I used hot glue to stick the pencil, and then spray rubbing alcohol to release the glue. Hope this answer helps.

Isn’t the hot glue raise the temperature of the back of watch and damage its electronic circuits?
I have a drive thru watch repair service near me, cost 10 bucks for everything.
This might work with a screw on back but not a snap on back.
Just use a jaxa or case knife. If you need anything else it's a skill issue

What Type of Hot Glue was used to Remove the watch cover to change out the coin battery in this video ?😮
Actually a neat trick, eager to try
Cheep super glue works to easy to clean off metal

does this work on apple I watch ? asking for a friend.
My vintage Timex diver watch case will laugh.
Why do all that! Just buy a watch kit with a manual that doesn’t cost much cause that’s a waste of time
Nobody has 30 minutes for this lolol

So what do you do if you don't have hot glue

what if there's no access to the battery from the back at all, how to access without ruining the front glass?
