@@tintinlchevreau1135 depends how much "you" you the player has done in the story. But I do somewhat agree that he might not be 100% completely redeemed for the wrong doings he did. He couldn't change the past but he had simply changed for the present and the future. Well for what was left of it.

I really like the soldier's character. He doesn't want to weasel out from his dept, he takes a chance and asks Arthur directly to help them. Sometimes people are driven by their pride, they are too scared and embarrassed to ask help. But you never know if you won't ask, maybe you'll find the right person like Weathers find Arthur who can help you and make your life better.
The last line "I don't know nothing about kindness" is really powerful because Arthur only sees the burning supplies that could have helped the couple further. To him, that is a failure because it will possibly cause them greater hardship later. Not realizing that he risked his life, called off the debt, and saved three innocents who have a better chance.
This one hit home for me. I once had a Native American girlfriend and the moment I saw his wife, my jaw hit the floor and i was reminded of her. Powerful how a game makes you feel such ways.

It's so bad ass. I've done that many times. Rather than reload my carbine, I'd walk out with two Double action revolvers and walk towards them shooting lol.

I love that "Thank you, feller. You know there ain't enough kindness in this world. That's for sure" bit. Arthur probably didn't see him letting the debt go as a big deal, but to the soldier is was a heartfelt and selfless act. Sometimes all it takes is a little kindness and patience with people to make all the difference in the world
You can hear the absolute regret and remorse in the last sentence Arthur says.
Notice how this man, John, and the other debtor, Arthur, are a play on the main characters of the game. John trying to run away from one life. Arthur the miner dying from the illness from the poor conditions of mining.
And both Arthurs ended up dying because of their mistakes, and the symbolic Johns managed to survive because of one man’s act of kindness.

Arthur isn’t a good man, but he became a better man and a more honest man. In the end, he tried like he said in the mountains, before peacefully dying while watching the sunrise one last time.

Dude told Arthur “I’d clear off sir” while upping his revolver, he was ready to go out like a man. That’s before Arthur realized he did this for his Native American lover. That’s what probably earned Arthur’s pity, respect and admiration. Love this cutscene.

This part of the game just shows that Arthur was willing to change the reality of others, his a bit late, but better late than never to have his redemption.

At first, mine was always high honor, but for the sake of the plot, on my second playthrough I had him at low honor until the end of Chapter 5 after A Fork in the Road.
@@azazel166 that’s actually how mine turned out unintentionally, I was slightly lower honor at fork in the road, then I finished chapter 6 with high honor

My great-great grandfather was a spanish german soldier during the spanish american war.he deserted the war over some half spanish girl which was my great-great grandmother.

Put in the first Red Dead Redemption I love their uniforms because it's matched colored and because it's more likely green unlike Red Dead Redemption 2 version of the United States Army their uniforms or just nothing I just don't like the way they wear their uniforms I just want it how the first Red Dead Redemption looks like of the United States Army
