At that time James's Dad had stage 4 kidney disease with just months to live because a donor hadnt been found. The lyric " im not your son etc" was what they used to say to each other ( both military) when James was deployed . Following the publicity of this video a distant cousin came forward and was a match and James' Dad had a successful kidney transplant and did well. Yes its his real Dad in the video which was taken in one take. with no rehersals. Afterwards the whole crew and musicians were crying and James's father said " why are you all cryng Im still here"

Such a hard song to listen to, but so beautiful at the same time. Not many people can talk while reacting to this one, so no worries. ❤😊 Especially if you've had to watch a parent go slowly. It really is one of the hardest things to experience.

Did hospice for her and my husband her son it’s different when women are with women we’re already emotional. We already know but it feels the same in the heart when a loved one goes, but they’re not gone. They will always be here in our memories in our hearts and spirit . It’s love. ☝🏾❤️’S🫵🏾💯😇

I didn't get to say "goodbye" to my dad. So whenever I hear this song, I wrap a "goodbye" up in all my love for my dad and send it out into the Universe. I do that because, I am sure, he's visiting other inhabited planets and having a beer with their inhabitants. But I still, so miss him. You know?

I get it, lost my mom and dad all quickly after each other then a close aunt the next year. Was tough cause my mom and I made up a few days before she passed but I never made up with my aunt (all me being young and dumb!) and never got to say goodbye. Then her husband said the stress of my action are what killed her so there’s that. So yea always tell people you

Most of James Blunt’s songs are about something personal that he went through. “The Girl That Never Was” is about his wife’s miscarriage, “No Bravery” is about his time in the Kosovo war, “Your Beautiful” is about a stalker & “The Greatest” is about emergency services during the Covid pandemic & how he’s going to raise his children during such an uncertain time

I don’t think “You’re Beautiful” is about a stalker, though. In an interview, James Blunt said it was about seeing his ex-girlfriend on the London Underground (subway?) with her new boyfriend who James wasn’t aware of. He said they exchanged glances but didn’t speak and then he went home and wrote the song.

Very true, life is so short and you can loose those closest to you in a instant. Watch your words, pick your fights, and say you Love your friends and family often, because you never know what the next second holds. NOTHING is worse then loosing a loved one and you had a disagreement with and you had to much pride and/or foolishness to just let it go and be the bigger person and make amends. So yea life is short, enjoy it, love often, me YOU with no regrets, dance in the rain, scream at the top of your lungs your love for people just let things go that don't matter! It is a beautiful song though, so I kept watching and listening and by the 20th time or so through it, it was easier to appreciate for its beauty without tears falling down my face. It IS beautiful to know that it is possible to say all these things to your loved ones while they are still with us.

James and his father were in the British military and when James was sent to Kosovo to say goodbye they said "I'm not your son, you're not my father, we're just 2 grown men saying goodbye.....". . James has a lot of deep songs, and as far as I understand, most are based on his true life experiences. If you look into his life you'll find he is not just an emotional songwriter, but a humble, but very funny guy. He has a great sense of humor, is a true family man and has extremely underrated talent. Listen to "Carry You Home", "The Girl That Never Was" and "Goodbye My Lover". There are others, but these 3 are very popular.

This guy has an 7 octave range and he is trained since the age of 5 years old. Multi Instrumentalist also. Never heard a voice like this. The song is about to be strong and faithful. The score is a dirge and complete with an angelic choir singing descant. I am his dad’s age complete with kidney disease too. BTW listen to “goodbye my Lover” and “The Girl Who Never Was”.
