The fact is, GTA III is the video game equivalent of Nirvana's Nevermind. This is the one that broke the mold and changed the entire industry. Love it or hate it, you have to appreciate the fact that GTA III is just as important as Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, Pac-Man or Space Invaders.

One of the best moments in gaming for me when this came out. This review hyped me up so much. I was already huhe fan of GTA and GTA2 but GTA3 was on another level. 😎✨🍻

Guys keep in mind, this review was recorded before RUclips went online, before facebook, 9/11 was still very fresh topic, Apple was on Microsoft's life support, and a lot of people in most developed parts of the world like North America and Europe still didn't have access to the internet.
GTA 3 came out in 2001 bud. A lot of people in the "developed" parts of the would you are talking about actually had broadband by then. If you didn't have at least dial up internet around that time you were either completely out of the loop or just poor af.

@@hellinterface6721 My little town in Canada never got broadband until 2004/5 and a lot of people didn't bother with dialup before that. My family had it, but our use was pretty limited since my parents used the phone often and we couldn't have both in use lol.

The feeling of discovery and innovation of seeing something like this 20 years ago is not the same today. Today it only matters to know if the game will not be destroyed by microtransactions like the current crap.

Awesome to see this, unbelievable to see how ''old'' this review already looks, the quality the cars on the street.. Awesome though, really awesome. I was like 9 in 2001 didn't play Gta 3 or even know Gta untill 2004, best time of my life when i found out about it. I bought a Ps2 and gta3 as soon as i could!

When he said the most violent game you'll see in a long time. You have to realize when this game released in Oct 01 it was a real sensitive time. So back then it made sense.

3:25 The odd camera angle in this specific stunt jump suggests that the version being recorded here was either the incredibly limited 1.40 PAL version of the game (with pre-9/11 content in it) or possibly a slightly earlier preview version of GTA3. [EDIT: The footage has some funny slow-down and other minor details that make me think it’s probably a debug build of some sort.]

Before GTA 3, violent and mature games are rarity, most revolves only arround cliche violents like carmageddon or doom, GTA 3 is something that changed it
It was 2001, aka the most traumatic year for most American. R* sure is had a balls to release the game at all in that year. Bad memory about Columbine shooting is also still lingering too.
Funny enough, two years later the same company released Manhunt. Arguably one of the most violent and brutal games ever made. 🤣
@clipsryan Considering Jeff Gerstmann is running one of the best online gaming media websites these days while GTA3's time has come and gone, it makes sense that more people are going to be here to see what Jeff used to be like rather than GTA 3 (Which most people are familiar with by this point)

I still love this game but its been ages since iv played such a memorable GTA, I found GTA DS veeeerrrry FUN and gave me the same feeling GTA III did when i first played it.

It's a pain to play now but at the time it was something else.

has anyone notice a guy instead of catalina in the start of the video where they run to the car and if you freeze it at the right moment you can see a man in the suit with a bag of money (duh) weird though I just think that there wasnt catalina til much later

I FINALLY PLAYED THIS GAME I REMEMBER MY BROTHER PLAYING IT IN 2001, BUT I WAS FAR TOO BUSY WITH MY HOMEWORK AND SPORTS AND NOW THAT I'VE PLAYED IT I MUST SAY I WAS MISSING OUT I COULD NOT PUT DOWN THE CONTROLLER IT IS VERY ADDICTING BY THE WAY THE DRIVING IN THE GAME IS AMAZING SO FLUID I REALLY FELT IN CONTROL OF THE CAR

they need to make a GTA game with geo mod like red faction so you can shoot a rocket launcher at a building and it blows a hole in it like some of the newer war games like mercs.

Its a key game for open world games...however it has a lot of flaws...Vice City improved a lot and San Andreas perfected the formula

guys. when he says "not for kids" he means young kids, like 8 and 9 year olds. If you were playing this game at 14, whatever, i started at 13. If you're parents let you play this at 7 or 8, they are obviously too dumb too look at the title, or know what a grand theft auto is.
