  • Duet in G from Méthode complète, Op.27
    by Ferdinando Carulli
is a charming short duet by the
renowned composer. The piece is written in 12/8 so
each measure consists of four groups of 3 eighth notes.
The phrases are two measures long and most
of the time end on the third beat of the second measure,
meaning the fourth beat could be considered
an anacrusis for the next melodic phrase, which is
    often played by guitar 2.
Guitar 2 plays in a lower register and alternates a
bass accompaniment with some scale passages. The
guitar 1 melody, instead, has a more arpeggiated
figuration, moving in thirds and fourth. In the second
half of the piece the two guitars start dialoguing
with each other, so be sure to bring out that back and-
    forth conversation appropriately.
This video is performed by Dave Belcher and Nicoletta Todesco and recorded at Yale University by Matthew LeFevre and Benjamin Schwartz.
