Piotr Anderszewski plays Beethoven Diabelli Variations, Op.120 (live 2018)

A recent live performance by Anderszewski of one of his old warhorses. I haven't made a thorough comparison with his famous studio recording but his interpretation doesn't appear to have fundamentally changed. The highlights for me are the C minor variations at the end, especially XXXI.

his approach does kinda chances from the recording, 34:50 the trill is very fast, in the recording he plays it slower. This is a huge pet peeve for me that's why I noticed it.

Einfallsreichste, sinnvollste und dabei strengste Wiedergabe des sonst nicht immer ganz leicht voll verständlichen grandiosen Werkes. Pianistisch grossartig.
„Froh zu sein, bedarf es wenig und wer froh ist, ist ein König“ kommt zu Wort, wie dessen Gegenteil…Keine einzige leere Note! Und doch nicht autoritär! An der Grenze zur Überinterpretation…
