Still has that Aura around him, was a lovely bloke while playing now even lovelier while commentating as well, knowledge of the game he possesses is insane 💯
As an Aussie, Kumar is one of my absolute favorite commentators, impeccable English, outstanding knowledge, coupled with politeness and like-ability. Just wish he and Gilly were commentating the current Aus-Sri Lanka tests together, the two greatest WK-Batsmen of all time in the comm box would be amazing.
Form I temporary. Technique is permanent. That's why Sanga was much more successful than, for example, Mahela, who was arguably more talented. Mahela had relatively long periods where his form left him. Sanga was the hardest worker in the team, and was obsessed with perfecting technique over natural talent.
Funny how as a club cricketer you see these guys decline at the end of their career and think they're washed, then realise they'd walk into any 1st grade side at 50yr old and average 200.
If you bat. Bat like Sanga. Class, elegance, balance, timing, technique, composure. All was seen throughout his career. This clip is just a reminder of what a legend he was. Hatts off.
Average of over 57 in test cricket is nothing to joke about. Home average over 60 and away average of 53. No surprise that even after all these years he's middling them. Dont know why he struggled in India and SA given he could play on fast swinging bouncy pitches and was a very good player of spin. I'd like to look into this more.
Going through some of the comments I feel very proud as a Sri Lankan but I have to tell you when Sanga started no one thought that he would go this far...Comparatively he was different to some of the other players around the world at that time. This man is a pure example of sheer hard work and never give up attitude. Perfect role model for youngsters all around the wolrd.
He is great but I consider him a selfish one..he retired when there was absolutely no backup for him to b replaced.. he was scoring heavily as well . Srlianka which is struggling I feel he is one of many reasons of it... Ab Deviliers is another such case.. Somebody tell AB that hitting sixes to "b class" IPL bowlers cannot help you to be called a legend of the game, U r just an entertainer that's it.
It always was, but to be fair, here he knows what every ball will be, where it will be and how fast it will be. Batsmen typically get unbalanced playing something they were not quite anticipating. I’d argue any pro batsman is going to look balanced in this kind of supremely predictable “drill”… not as elegant, but balanced.
@@davidburke2132 and he was playing on synthetic turf. Playing on a grassy or clay pitch with natural randomness in seam deviation would be a whole different thing.
I had the pleasure to watch Kumar live at the oval when he was at Surrey, a truly incredible player. He made 76 I think and Jason Roy made 99 against Worcestershire in the one day cup.
Sangakkara was poetry in motion. One of the most elegant players I've ever seen. As it's apparent in this video, the maestro has still got it. Proud to have seen him bat in a stadium. Love and respect from India.
Apart from being winded at the end of this batting session, Sanga doesn't seem to have lost a step. With six months of fitness work he could step right back into the squad. This man is an absolute legend of the game.
Sanga's comments are up there and quite a match to his classy play - what a man! Sri Lanka had this golden generation - that changed the image of SL forever ..
Give him a break; he's done his time! It gets to the point where it's not the playing but the training, the travelling, the time away from family and home, the media pressure and everything else.
The prime sanga was delicious to watch and he reminds that traditional and classic approach is permanent. All cricket boards should have programs to keep and mantain aging cricketers for test matches. Sanga 😘.
Enchanting and mesmerizing as old times when he strokes that cherry!!! beautiful stride , great hand-eye co-ordination and lovely balance ..Reason why he's one of a great of this game
One thing i noticed and helped me bat was keep front foot somewhat open and then trigger a slight front food press and both feet are in line again otherwise if they are in line before trigger movement the front gets a bit towards mid stump eventually reducing space to play
SANGA'S head position, stroke play, backfoot defense, frontfoot defense, timing, elegance everything is still intact!! Once a Legend, always will be a Legend 💗😌
Kumar is the ULTIMATE genius the cricketing world has ever seen! His commentary skills is as good as his cricketing skills. Amazing guy! AND Nass as well. It is a pleasure to listen to this particular SKY TV team commentate. Doully, Aerthers, Nass and Sanga are divine. Well played Sanga!
After seeing the performance of Lanka against Australia in the 1st test, I thing Sanga can still make it to the the Sri Lankan XI and be their top scorer. This man is sheer class. They say form is temporary, class is permanent, very well said. ❤️🙂
@@tigersbestteam9839 idk about that stat mate. Sri lanka lost series during sanga era not only to australia but also to south africa, pakistan and india at home during 2014-15
Still one of the most stylish batsmen going. Sanga is absolutely unreal.
I would say one and only, the most perfect left hander
Sanga Sanath Sachin every good batsman starts with S

Yep. Great choice when they made him President of the MCC.
All aura is gone honestly
Best gentlemen cricketer sri lanka has ever produced .love you sanga

Everyone is a legend until you're facing Jimmy in overcast conditions with new ball
even after leaving the game for so long, His head position and bat swing is still elegant and perfect.
If you as good as him that skill just does not go away
Just so perfect wasn’t it. He looks like he has so much time to play the shot

judging the length so quickly too , footwork on point . Footwork is so so important against spin or swing bowling

Totally. And he kept wicket too. Unreal.
Sangakarra, personally my favourite ever batsmen. 57 avg in tests 🔥 looking forward to today ! Hope there's no major rain !
He's my wicket-keeper in an all-time XI. Marginally above Adam Gilchrist. Not as spectacular as Jayasuriya but more consistent and harder to get out.
Pure class. Look at the ease with which he played those balls. The only thing Sanga has lost is a bit of fitness. He was winded in the interview.
he played 20 odd balls with 10 sec gap interval . that can happen for anyone
B/c he played more balls than shown in video…..
My man is still better then 90% of test openers out there ☠️☠️☠️☠️
Was thinking can we swap him for Crawley 😂

Better than ALL test openers right now .
Legend. Extremely intelligent man as well as one of the best Batsmen to play the game.
Great decision when the English made him President of the MCC.
I think he was academically very gifted as well in his young days. Heard that he was in top 3 whole country in an exam for Advance Level.
greatest test batsman ever. Dont count don bradman as he played in easy times

Damn true 💯
i still don't get it as to why he's not head coach of srilankan team...they are in dire need of him...your board should consider him

perfect English 👍
But running between the wickets could be a problem

Great comments from Kumar, he was fantastic to watch when he played and has turned into one of the absolute best commentator/pundits.
Words of wisdom! Amazing watching his technique with the bat too.
Amazing to see that a curved batting stance can instantly generate a glorious cover drive to the out swinging ball in English conditions.
What elegance!
Look at the footwork, downswing and follow through of the bat.. What a master!
