Hi Bob definitely many more bass in the Bristol Channel than cod which is surprising for this time of year! I do like my winter cod fishing but the last few years has been pretty poor unfortunately! Happy new year to you! Cheers Ian
that was a great way to spend new years eve as i get older , over 2hours of fishing vids and a few beers , you all looked like you had fun in that vid , its a pity that eel was not another FF,S one , never mind there is always next time ,talking about time chris is getting even slower at winding in ,he is that slow now the fish are losing weight by the time they are at his feet ,😅, well i wont be watching any more of your vids until next year thats for sure , all the best for the coming year and i hope its a great one for you all ,,,ATB les .
Ha ha you do make me laugh Les!!! I will have to tell Chris that!! But I agree with you… sometimes I just want to yell at him to get a move on!!! Was really nice to spend a few hours with my boys too! I wish you all the best for 2025 mate and again really appreciate your support!!! Happy new year! Ian
Becoming a bit of a bass master that Chris is I remember the big one he caught last year I think anyway all the best to you all and thanks for the entertainment
Hi Malcolm yes he certainly has been on good form with them recently!! Unfortunately for me the eels seem to be following me around the south coast!😂😂 happy new year cheers Ian
What a great Christmas present. I really thought that Chris was going to break out into a song and dance , but he remained as stoic as ever. Stay safe, tight lines and a very happy new year to you and all your family. Mike.
Hi Mike…. Chris not one to show his emotions too much… unlike me!😂 was really nice to get out and the fish was a lovely bonus!!! Happy new year cheers Ian
Another great video guys on a very bleak. Pretty fishless bristol channel. At the moment,!! I was on my boat boxing day too.. and just 3 eels for us very hard going at the moment. Tight lines lads
Happy new new year and thanks for posting the video - just what I needed as a bad back has sidelined my fishing for the past few months. Lovely to see that Bass are still around at Brean this time of year, despite the lack of codling.
Hi Martin sorry to hear about your back!! Yes lack of codling again this year unfortunately it’s been a few years since they were around Brean in any numbers but the bass do make up for it somewhat! Happy new year thanks for watching cheers Ian
It's amazing that how 1 fish changes all the mood, I would give that bass at least 5lb. Nice little strap ian mate and Good effort by all, all the best and tight lines 👍 🎣
Lovely to hear from you again! Yes a very welcome bass on a difficult day… neapy tide and no surf they were always going to be far out and so it proved!!! Happy new year cheers Ian
Lovely video, as always Ian. Cracking bass for Chris. It only takes one quality fish like that to make a session. Hope you all had a great Christmas and hopefully I'll see you on that beach in the new year at some point.
If you have chest waders then why not wade out further? In South Africa we wear a zip less oil skin (PVC) jacket on top of the chest waders and closed around the waist using rod butt holder and belt to keep water from filling the boots. This means we can wade out to maximum distance taking a jump for the last big wave, cast out and walk backwards while feeding line out. Quite often we will get a fish before getting back to land. Our rods have the reel near the end of the rod, not a quarter of the way up like you guys. By the way, what you catch for fish we would use as bait in South Africa😅 Tight lines guys. Robin - Cape Town
Ha ha !!! Hi Robin so nice to hear from you!! I’ve seen the shark shore fishing in SA and it looks awesome such a shame we have nothing like it here!! In answer to your question on the first cast it’s much too dangerous to go out wading very far as the sand turns into very soft mud and if you’re not careful you can be up to your waist in mud very quickly with possibly fatal consequences!!! Really appreciate having you comment it’s really appreciated cheers Ian
I live in swindon, tried my luck 5 times in Weston super mare as it’s an hour drive for me, blanked each and every time, I Originally decided to give Beach casting a Try as £80 per go on a charter was a bit pricey, but to be honest being alone and not catching anything was just demoralising, so I think you guys are doing fishing right going in groups there’s more laughs and banter, more bait in the water, and even if you blank other won’t and you’ll see some catches, I’m going on a boat next week in Portishead but if you guys do a day out again feel free to drop me a message might tag along 🙂
Hi so nice to hear from you! Sorry you have been struggling on our local beaches it’s not easy especially this time of year I must say!! I find it’s always nicer to fish with a mate or two…. You can vary your tactics more and console each other when the fish aren’t biting!!! Good luck on the charter boat I would suggest leaving the beach until April when some good bass come inshore…. Hopefully!!!! Thanks for watching much appreciated cheers Ian
I noticed you always dig for the blow lug. Is the berrow sand too dry for a pump ? (Years ago, we were told pumps only work for black lug. I know they work for blow, but the sand has to be wet and loose)
Hi Matt you’re correct in thinking the sand composition at Brean makes pumping rather difficult there though have seen it done!! However most of the lug he pumped up were damaged unfortunately. So it’s get the fork out or fork out the cash!😂😂😂 Cheers Ian
A very good question indeed!!! It’s been 6 years since we had a good run of fish up my way!!!😩 Chesil was good in September/October but the Bristol Channel has been awful this winter again!!! Thanks for watching cheers Ian
Thank you Ian, found the sound of the sea very calming, it seems the warmer water is giving less cod and more bass.
🧔👍
