- Chapter 7 Outline
v1-9 imminence of judgment
v10-11 iniquity at its height
v12-16 the inclusiveness of the judgment
v17-19 the impotence of wealth
v20-22 the impurity of the temple
v23-27 the ineffectiveness of the leadership
We are in a section of oral messages in chapters 6 & 7, which in Ezekiel's case is a change from his mute acted-out messages in the first chapters. The first oral message in chapter six spoke of the inevitability of judgment because of Judah. Chapter 7 speaks of the imminence of divine judgment, right at the door, so close. The delay was coming to an end, God's long-suffering reached its limit.
When the Babylonians came and conquered, the evidence of their abominations would be scattered in the midst of them for everyone to see. The implements of idolatry will lie in the land, a continual reminder for the reason for and merit of the judgment they received.
All things we think are so important become meaningless when there is a tragedy. The smile of the buyer, the long face of the seller who pretends he has been taken advantage of, will be a thing of the past. Commercialism will come to an end.
In chapter 3 God made Ezekiel be a watchman on the walls, but at this point, because judgment has come, it is futile. There is no army to rally. Disobedience meant loss of life. For us it means we lose something of our spiritual vitality. If we persist, as in I Corinthians 11 we read "some sleep", the Lord may take us home prematurely. Disobedience always causes a loss of spiritual vitality.
Great teaching Mike.
Thank you.
Thanks Brother, have a great day in the Lord
Very very good study!!! Thanks!!!
Thanks Brother for your kind remarks.
Didn't the people know who God is without these judgments. These verses kept saying they will know I am the lord
They had given themselves over to idolatry and therefore had not believed that he was the Lord, if they had believed that they would not have done what they were doing.
@MikeAttwood1611 ok it makes sence. I guess I'm looking at it as if I stray from God I won't completely forget him. I still know who he is. It shows how wicked they were
What normal person with a Family and a Job has time to study all this ?????? IN Hebrew 🤣🤣🤣
