- Ezekiel has been taken in spirit from his home by the banks of the Chebar to Jerusalem, and shown the abominations going on in the temple of God, to explain why God's glory must leave and judgment must fall on Jerusalem.
In 8:6 we read of great abominations, in verse 9 of wicked abominations, and in verse 13 even greater abominations. Sin, by its very nature, tends to get worse. Evil has an abounding principle. It doesn't just do a little and then stop.
Satan is a great counterfeiter. The worship of Tammuz was based on the notion of a perfect son born to a virgin mother who was revived in the Spring. An annual feast was accompanied by great wickedness, denying that God is the one behind all creation.
Every good gift comes from the hand of God, but here Judah and the women of Judah, who should have known better, have bought into this Pagan philosophy and are displaying it at the very gate of the house of God. God is saying to Ezekiel, "Can you see why I can't stay here any longer?"
Satan is also going to have a mark that people will take. He will become the world dictator and will require people to have a mark in order to be preserved, but those who take that mark are going to be eternally doomed. It's a very serious thing to buy into Satan's counterfeit.
