  • As the car has a enormous spoiler, rear view is literally none existent, and i like my toys, so new stereo with android auto was a must! Sony XAV-3500 DAB installed with android auto. Fitting a stereo is easy, its the wiring thats a pain, running the wires is never fun. I also had a Pure Highway 600, which i never knew existed, great bit of kit if you are not bothered about a screen, reverse cam, and want to save some money.

    That is some insane work to retrofit Android Auto.... Thanks a lot for that. Just bought a MK8 Civic, wanting to upgrade the radio, I think I need to prepare a fair bit before I'll tackle this project. Will probably install a handsfree and a backup cam like you but this is sooo much work. Thanks for showing. Well explained!

    Insanely helpful video - I'm gonna be doing the same thing next week (minus the reversing cam). Also doing my subwoofer at the same time so I'm gonna go to that video now! I've got a 5dr ES but they are very similar, just twice the work on the door trims as I need to route under the rear ones too! Looking forward to it even though it's gonna be painful - my last car, Peugeot 207, was a piece of cake compared to this, although getting the power cable through the firewall took 5 hours on that.

    Thank you for this video. Just bought a mk8 and it has stock radio (non-satnav) but has a camera on the back of the car, a mic on the roof, a DAB antenna and a seperate USB cable in the armrest, so somebody must have had an aftermarket but replaced it with stock before sale. Cheers for the fantastic walkthrough. It'll help a lot.
    P.S. I'd better dismantle first and see if the previous owner left the harness and connect2 behind it!

  • @aspected

    The little bit of bungee cord on the side of the glovebox is, according to various people on Civinfo, a tensioner for the glovebox door. If you remove it the door will not open softly anymore, it will just fall flat.
    To take the glovebox out hook something solid around the wire, and gently lift it off, then make sure you do not let go of it. I might rig together a little coat hanger tool to do it next week because I'll need to get mine out to fit a sub.

    • @ModorFix
      @ModorFix  Год назад +1

      Thanks for this info. This is why I left it the hell alone. Looked like it was going to be a pain to get back on lol!

    • @aspected
      @aspected Год назад +1

      @@ModorFix Yeah the general consensus on the forum seems to be "pull it out with force", which breaks that tensioner, but I think leaving it intact and just pulling the box down a bit is a much nicer way to do it.

    • @ModorFix
      @ModorFix  Год назад

      @aspected I try not to force anything if I can. I hate it when I find broken trim. I replaced all the broken trim in this car for that reason, the previous owner was a savage! Lol!

    Mine is just lifting at the left edge closest to the glove box and refusing to sit flush.

    • @ModorFix
      @ModorFix  Год назад +1

      My fascia wasn't from the same seller. I think I bought it second hand from a track car. Had to make a few mods to it to get it to hold the stereo nicely. Although if it's screwed down it shouldn't lift unless it's warped. Might be worth getting a replacement

  • @blackmanzproductionz
    @blackmanzproductionz 11 месяцев назад

    In regards to the sub install, if your amp is stereo, you just connect the phono cables on either of the front or rear outs on the head unit which will give your amp stereo audio. The only thing that will do is if you you fade your audio to the front on the head unit and the amp is connected to the rear output, the sub will get quieter with the rear speakers and vice versa if the amp is connected to the front out.

    • @ModorFix
      @ModorFix  11 месяцев назад

      No you don't do that at all. You have to bridge the sub +/- across the 2 channels. A sub should always be mono not stereo. The sub has its own dedicated phono lead to the stereo. You have controls on the amp and also the head unit to control the sub independently and even turn it off if required.
