Thank you! Seriously this helped me feel okay to cosplay again . back in 2007 I Went to my first convention and sadly it was my last. I cosplayed as Soubi and I got a lot of people being friendly and I had a blast I even entered a contest. We were standing to be judged and the judged looked at me and said " You would of won but your to fat to be your character" I never tried again thankfully I have made new friends who are inspiring me to try again and I feel loved and adored again. I wish I Was smaller of course but I don't think anyone should be insulted for who they cosplay as if they are are happy it's all that matters
Di ralis The winning team was no where near accurate either but yes the judges said not only was I to fat for my character but to fat to cosplay in general.
+Nero Zero I hope you slapped bitch for that one! If you look at my pic I actually had to wear a male version of a girdle. Nobody actually looks exactly like their character...
+akidearest Wanna know something funny? So I went to my first ComicCon... some point last year I wanna say. And as I was browsing the various booths and their goodies, I saw a group of 5 guys walking the opposite direction as me, but these guys, OH MY GOD THESE GUYS ARE AMAZING. They were dressed as Sailor Moon and her 4 partners ((I can't remember their names =P)), and they even let me take a picture of them! I love it whenever guys do stuff like that!
Cosplaying is most definitely all about having fun. So many people say they can't cosplay a certain character just because they have the wrong skin color, the wrong chest size, the wrong weight/body. And I say fuck it, do whatever cosplay you want, no matter what race, weight, gender, etc you are.
Well I don't think whites should cosplay Asian characters. Most whites that cosplay always say to have to be white or etc to cosplay and well Whites are racist and they shouldn't cosplay anime characters, it's like blackfacing, but more white washing than anything.
In middle school, I dressed up as Katara from Avatar with a great costume made by my mom for Oni-Con. One jerk (probably related to Mr.BagofDicks) told me I was all wrong and shouldn't be allowed to cosplay Katara because I'm pale. I was able to shake the comment and still have fun, but really. It's nice to hear your rants Akidearest. Feels.
I myself am over weight, I'll admit that. I'm fairly chubby to the point that I normally will not show my stomach at all. But last month (January, 2016) I took a huge leap in boosting my self confidence. I cosplayed Lapis Lazuli (from Steven Universe) and the outfit was a skirt with an open back crop top. It just tied in the back. And I was so happy at the end of the day because, although I was far from being a skinny "canon" Lapis like most of the others I saw there, a lot of people said they loved the cosplay and told me that I made a really cute Lapis! So yeah, honestly, people at cons typically won't judge people for weight or "not looking canon enough", I know I sure don't
+cupcake1723 Oh please dont use your white guilt on me >.> It doesn't matter if it's a space rock. It's racist if a white changes their skin color. There's alot of dark history of whities black facing because they didn't want to hire black actors. It's just offensive to everyone else if a white privileged person changes their skin color for a blue fictional character.
Jesus If you want to bring in how it's racist for someone to change their skin color, and that actors do it a lot, then the movie 'White Chicks' is obviously racist, and by your stands, sexist as well. If you don't know the movie, then all I have to say is that two black men pose as white women.
This gives me a lot of motivation. The last cosplay I did covered every inch of skin on my body. And I chose that character because any character I think of doesn't match my skin tone. I'm an Indian female (who's a little short) and no matter how much I look, there isn't a character that I can cosplay with my skin tone. It's simply just too dark. This video changed my views on this. Body shapes/height aren't very much a problem for me, but skin tone is. Thanks to this video, I've learned to accept that I can't change my skin color, and that I shouldn't make it out to be a problem. The race I was born in and the genes I was born with aren't boundaries to what I can and can't cosplay. Like you said, just have fun, and be happy with your cosplay. I'm happy with mine, and I have a lot of fun, so why let this little factor get the best of me? Thanks for changing the way I think about things, Aki. Keep doing what you're doing; making videos, doing what you love, motivating and helping others like this.
Thank you so much! I am also an Indian female, 14 years old who would love to cosplay(but has not got a chance yet). You motivated me to be proud of my skin and not let anyones judgement bother me. Thank you!
I love this. I completely agree with you. I never match the psychical appearance of my Cosplays half of the time I cosplay guy's and I'm happy to say that only one person has tried to put me down about it. I've gotten mostly great comments about my cosplays and I'm so happy that people have grown more accepting of everyone else.
Hey, I'm half Caucasian and half African-American. How many characters do you think look like me? I can only think of 3 that match my skin tone. Brock from Pokémon Black Star from Soul Eater Neptune Vasilias from RWBY And none of them really even have the right type of facial features for me to match with my uncommon (as regards character designs) mix of Caucasian and African-African features. But hey, that doesn't disqualify me from cosplaying. Granted, I haven't actually ever cosplayed yet, but I want to. Kinda sorta planning on a version of Deadpool, and I also actually want to cosplay Hei from Darker Than Black sometime, as well as the aforementioned Neptune Vasilias from RWBY. Even though it doesn't matter what my skin tone is for the character, I personally would want to be accurate to the character I cosplay. So my workaround - if you noticed from my choices - (other than Neptune) was masked characters. Then not only would I look the part, but be able to get in character and look exactly like them. (Not TOO much in character with Deadpool though.)
Jesus Umm excuse me? Can you not be so rude. I'm white and I can cosplay someone that's Asian or from an anime all I want and if you have a problem with that don't watch videos about cosplay
Hey. So once this dude was like "Cosplay and anime is stupid. Why do people even cosplay? It's just like they're faking them." And we had a huge argument then I said "We're doing it for fun and showing our love for the character." Then he said "So you're worshiping them?" ... I quit with him right then and there...
If you Said cosplay is nonsense,It still having point if you dont like But you will become Wanted Terrorist if you Insult with "Worshipping" Me: Just Shipping mate....
Maeficia Oh, so according to that guy, I "worship" a rotten, evil, zombie bunny Animatronic? Pfft. The world is FULL of idiots like that jerk, don't listen to them. They're not worth your explanation OR your time! Cosplay is for those who love stepping outside their shoes for a day and becoming something they could never really be in real life. Whatever it is to you, then that's what it is for you.
ICANalwaysMaKeYouSmIle aww dun be like that.you can always cosplay as umaru in her chibi form! she's really adorable and all u have to do is get a blanket and wig if needed then you're whole body is covered! plus I'm sure that u are perfect jut the way u are! n-n
I'm 11 and i'm going to go to Anime Con 2016 In The Netherlands (Holland) cosplaying Armin from Attack on Titan :) I'm so exited, my cosplay arrived in the mail today!! (Sorry if my English is a bit butchered, i'm sort of forgetting it because i live in The Netherlands now...)
I've never tried it, but cosplaying sounds really fun! If I were to cosplay, I'd cosplay as a guy character like Kousei Arima (I think that's how you spell it, only just finished the anime!) from Your Lie In April because so far from the few animes I've watched I've enjoyed the male characters a bit more. Maybe I could do it for Halloween next year! I hope no one makes fun of me for dressing as a dude, but I don't really care! EDIT: Another reason that I would dress as a make character is because I love dressing in clothing "meant for boys". I wear baggy t-shirts and sweatpants because I like them. Half of my friends think I'm a boy to begin with, so dressing as a guy wouldn't be out of the ordinary!
A black Batman with a mustache sounds pretty cool to be honest. Who ever said that Batman has to be white. I would like to see more diverse super hero movies. All of them are white washed. I want my Mexican Spiderman! :P
***** ikr, at least in one of the cartoon versions of the Green Lantern was black for a while in the early 2000's with the Justice League only to change him back to white in later cartoon versions including the movie. I had no idea he was originally white :/
***** Its the main reason why I ignore 100% of hate comments about live actions for manga and anime because they are all the same like "they dont look like the character" or "this person doesn't have blue hair and eyes!" and "Why dont they use cosplay?!". Its a dumb reason to hate on live actions because its suppose to be realistic. Go to any Attack on Titan live action video, they're complaining why they're not white because Mikasa is the only asian character in the manga (apparently her actress is of Korean descent while all the other actors are Japanese so there is that but still no one cares). Also, they dont like change in the story, I would LOVE to know if anyone complained about any of the super hero movies being different than their source material. Spider Man got 2 origin stories while Batman got a crap load of them and no one complained a single time.
That's really fun too, also genderbenders (since a lot of the characters I like are the cute type/drags/girls I have to crossplay or create a male version). I'm worried to make a Ciel (girl version) crossplay and enter to the con bathroom *if even possible because that's a HUGE dress * and have everyone be like WHOT
For me, professional cosplayers, who are paid to go to cons, should be pretty close. You're being paid to be that character. My mom has a friend that has Clone trooper armor and he goes to cons as a clone trooper and gets paid for it. However if you're an amateur cosplayer for the fun of it, then have at it! Have fun!
Something that seems to be going around in my group of friends is an issue related to a group cosplay we're planning on doing in a few months. One of the characters in the group has darker skin but all of us are the whitest twits probably in the whole damn world (bit of an over exaggeration). We've never had issues cosplaying as a character who's the opposite gender and body type hardly ever occurs to us however we're probably gonna have to do a different group as no one is nominating themselves to cosplay as the darker skinned character. I don't think it's racist as we all love the character! She's an awesome badass from a game that we all play religiously but none of us feel comfortable and none of us seem to know why?
You don't have to be the same skin color as a character to cosplay as them. The comfort thing is probably cause you guys aren't used to cosplaying a character with darker skin, and have a fear inside somewhere that you'll be called racist or a whitewasher. I've seen people with white skin cosplay as characters who have dark skin, and also the opposite where people with dark skin cosplay characters with light skin. (I've seen black Yokos and white Korras, etc.) As long as people are respectful and don't do blackface or something it's perfectly fine.
+Simon The Digger Tell me about it... I cosplayed as L last halloween and every anime fan from my school wanted a picture of me. People called me L after that (probably because they don't my name) Not trying to brag or anything but I was pretty accurate even though I was a little foetus (14)
L is freaking beautiful so you must be as beautiful as him I would wanna take a pic with L and ask you "How did it feel to have a heart attack and be the best detective in the world?" If you look like L a lot then you are freaking awesome (//^.^//)
Molianna725 i'm a little overweight but i don't care what others think about my cosplays. xD In my opinion everyone who wants, should cosplay no matter what other people say, in the end only counts if you are happy with your cosplay. (and i also think chubby roundish faces are perfect for anime charakter, because it looks cute :D I follow a lot of chubby cosplayer as well as very thin cosplayers on instagram for me its not about how you look its about your passion for anime and making things and stuff :3 I have a few friends who are very overweight and i motivate them constantly to do what they love/like :3 So don't let other people bring you down! One day you'll be cosplay queen *^*)9
^3^ Thanks for those words! I wish I would meet you at some convention or something because you're one of the nice people but I don't think it woud be possible because Ilive in Czech Republic and I can't go to different country. :/ Heh.. and again thanks for those words. Makes my day and makes me more confident about certain things. ^3^
Characters are meant to be loved! We love these characters because of their CHARACTER. Their PERSONALITY and want they stand for. Not how they look like. When you're cosplaying it's not supposed to look 100% accurate. It can, but it doesn't have to. That's not the POINT. The point it to have fun feeling like your favorite character. Let these people love these characters! So what if they're body type doesn't fit the character? Goddammit if all you see in superman is his muscles and nothing else then I feel sorry for you. I'm sorry you feel that way about characters
I like your opinions on cosplay, many people on twitter & fb told me I shouldn't cosplay due to my height, weight, skin colour & ethnicity >X-] I just laugh at their narrow view on the subject
I’m hispanic but I’ve still decided to do a Navi from LOZ cosplay. Don’t listen to those people, at least you’re out there having fun and being who you want to be!
Thank you for this advice cause I haven't been in a convention but I will soon and yes I'm over weight and I'm Mexican but either way I'm still cosplaying as Finland from hetalia or 707 from mystic messenger and if people till me how I shouldn't cosplay i wouldn't give a fuck cause I still will cosplay
Aki, I wanted to say thank you to you. Before watching this video, I would have never cosplayed as Mikasa. I wanted to dress up as her for Halloween, but I was scared to because I'm Indian. I did not match her fair skin AT ALL. I was scared that I would t pull it off, but after watching this video, I cosplayed as her, and I'm so glad I did! Thank you!
Honestly!! Thank you!!! People like you got me confident enough with my cosplays to do the Suicide Squad Movie Harley Quinn when I used to be so shy like couldn't even do like sleeveless shirts like I am still working on my body to feel healthier, but I am proud to have my body, squishy tummy, chubby thighs, all of it! so thank you for spreading the kindness and positivity!
Hi Aki tomorrow I'm going to mcm comic con and cosplaying as L from death note do u like death and if u do. Do u think it's a good cosplay idea BTW you should come to mcm
I'm biologically a female (identify as agender) and I cosplay as male anime characters. I have a bit bigger chest and can't find a decent binder. I don't give a flying fuck. Why do people insist on putting others down.
This made my nerves calm down about going to animazement in cosplay. I was afraid about getting judged for making my cosplay out of my old costumes but now I feel so much more better about my cosplay. Thanks Aki(and commenters) for raising my confidence about my cosplay!
I definitely agree with you that what makes a "good cosplay" is being happy with the cosplay and having fun. ^^ I've been self-conscious about my cosplays before, afraid of what others would think of my cosplay.
Thank you so much, Aki. I've always so scared to cosplay because most of my favorite character have white skin and mine is brown and I'm not skinny enough.Watching this makes me more confident about myself... Thank you so much, now I'm not afraid to cosplay them :)
Thank you for saying this. It's thanks to you that I'm able to cosplay if I want to and don't need to feel ashamed. Since I got into anime, I always wanted to cosplay but I always told myself that my body figure was all wrong since it didn't much most anime girls(I'm short and curvy with a big chest). After seeing this, I was able to feel like I could cosplay if I wanted to. I have found a character to cosplay as who I have almost the same body figure(though to be perfect I'd have to be a few centimetres taller and my chest would need to be slightly bigger) but overall, I can cosplay her and feel comfortable and still feel like I look like her. But I also know that I don't have to just limit myself to that, all thanks to you
Meep... thank you so much Aki. This made me so happy. I’m really young and my skin tone is quite dark considering the fact that I’m African American. When I think of cosplaying someone I think of how much fun it’ll be to do it not how much I look like it or match them. It’s really nice to know someone agrees with me!
My brother said I couldn't cosplay as Kyoya from Ouran high school host club Because I was I girl, but when I put on my cosplay I look almost identical to the character but that's still not enough for him "you don't have an Adam's apple." And stupid things like that, but the jokes on him when I'm dressed as Kyoya I look hotter then he normally is
I know a person who believes only good cosplays are ones that are handmade. If you don't make them from scratch, consider it trash (by that person's standards at least). I still remember that person trashing cosplays (including my close friend's cosplay) bc they were not handmade so they lack "effort". They also believe that only good cosplays use wigs and not real hair, if you do, you apparently have no idea what you're doing in the cosplay community. I've used real hair in an Itsuki Kagami cosplay before and I got so many nice compliments from people.
I completely agree with this video. I mean- I cosplayed as Link from ocarina of time and well he has blue eyes and blonde hair... I am the exact opposite. The only thing we have in common physically is that we are both pale. And you know what? I cosplayed as him loud and proud! But, this video gave more confidence with my cosplay. So thanks ^^
At portconmaine this year in June I went as honey from ouran high school host club and chubby, and tall and I didn't even have a wig for the cosplay but people still wanted to take pictures of me and even Reconized me as honey
Thank you so much Aki, you've given me confidence to cosplay as someone who doesn't have the same skin tone as me. I know this video's old, but I'm really thankful for it.
If you are cosplaying for fun then body shape has no part. Now if you are cosplaying for accuracy and to be a real life version if that character as a copy, that is the only time body type is truly meaningful and even then you can get away with it.
also this is just very true. but i think one key thing to add is confidence. even if you are unhappy with your costume (which i hope you aren't) , you have to be confident to act like your character or just show off your outfit! if you are nervous , then its going to take so much away from the hard work you have put into it. i personally enjoy cosplay because , being a very quiet and shy person irl , i can take on another character and another personality!
Same feels when aki said about being an artist and getting to know that your oc is being cosplayed worldwide That's happiness for every artist! because it shows that some people do notice! >u
There was actually an adult that told this little kid off because she was "too black" to cosplay Elsa. I think she said "Isn't Elsa white?" to the poor kid and started telling her that she shouldn't be Elsa for Halloween because she wasn't white. :U
That's fucked up and it kind if reminds me of this little aboriginal girl waiting in line to see Elsa as a mini elsa at Disneyland and this really ignorant and possibly racist, little white girl was like your too dark to be elsa etc.. so the little aboriginal girl went home crying and tried to stratch her skin off, so she could become white. Makes me sad to be human.
Thanks Aki, this really helped and lifted up my confidence. I've always been nervous and self-conscious about cosplaying- about my body size, shape, even gender (since I like to cosplay both guys and girls) but always felt I couldn't because of that ^. But this really helped. People still tell me I can't cosplay this person or can't cosplay that person but I want to prove them wrong- that I CAN do it! And everyone else can too! Thanks Aki!
I'm going to a fan expo comic Con soon as Chun-li and im a 11 year old short mixed girl who does not have AWSOME thighs like Chun-li. SCREEEEWWW DA HATAS AND FO WIT IT!!!
One time I cosplayed K1 B0, and i'm a girl somebody said i couldn't cosplay him because I was a girl, and he was a boy and i pointed out he wasn't a boy, he was a robot, and his preferred pronouns are he/him so, by their logic, only robots could cosplay K1 B0... **inhale** **exhale** *N O*
You're really awesome. I just stumbled upon your channel and have been stuck here ever since ;) Not that I mind. I love your videos, they make me laugh or get me thinking. Please keep up the good work! :) I like how you're obviously yourself and not trying to be anything else, I respect it and I don't think you should do anything else than that. A lot of my own insecurities fade away little by little thanks to you and your video's. Anyway, you inspire me.
Cosplay is typically when you try to match the character as much as possible (personalities included) since it is costume roleplay. If you're just dressing up then the personality doesn't really matter I suppose
I agree with everything you said in this. All that matters in a good cosplay is that you have fun and be happy with your cosplay. I also have another one to add. I feel that another thing that matters is that you feel you tried hard to make your cosplay as good as you could. Because you can buy/make/whatever your cosplay but if you don't really feel you did a good job on it, even if you enjoy the cosplay/character, what's the point? You should be proud of what you made. :)
It depends. Me, I'm fifty years old and while not morbidly obese I do have a bit of a belly. I could stand to lose, say, twenty pounds. So, is it OK for me to cosplay Superman? If I'm just having fun, yeah. If I'm specifically cosplaying "Aging Superman," yeah. If I'm competing... well there's no law against it but let's face it: I'm not going to pull off Superman. Not well enough to compete. Not gonna be able to pull of Sailor Moon either. But if I'm just having fun, then sure. Also, Mr. Bag-of-Dicks is really limiting things if he insists that one cosplay only characters of the same race as oneself. Most character in anime are (wait for it) Japanese, and so neither he (black guy) nor I (white guy) can cosplay as ANY of them. And while I might work out and then cosplay as Superman or Batman or Doc Savage or James Bond or Captain America or Dr. Who or Tarzan Thor or Captain Kirk or or or or or or or....... He can't cosplay as ANY of them. Because I'm black and he's white, I can and he can't. Um, does there seem to be anything wrong with that? I can understand a movie not hiring a black guy to play Thor or not hiring a white guy to play the Black Panther, or not hiring either to play Mr. Sulu, cosplaying is for fun. Unless it's for money, which always changes things, but hey.
(I know this was made months and months ago but whatever.) I 100% agree with you, aki. I myself go to conventions sometimes and I always cosplay as a character. (usually a vocaloid character) A lot of the characters I cosplay are not overweight. I myself am overweight, but that does not stop me from cosplaying as the characters I like. Heck, I just made a cosplay a few days ago for a convention I'm going to in a few weeks, and the character I'm cosplaying as is not overweight, but I'm still going to go to that convention with my friends and cosplaying as that character! Thank you for this video, aki. Thank you.
Wow. This made me feel better. I was made fun of wanting to cosplay because I have curly hair and I am very short. Now I'm feeling confident because of Aki. Thnx!!!
sup aki, as I was listening to this I completely agree. having fun and making friends is what make cosplaying fun. especially for kids and those insecure to do so themselves. it is nice to go around and be a good person to motivate others to go for it because someone will say something nice. Love ur channel btw. keep being u!
Guys like him really piss me off, especially knowing that he is a black man. As another black man who probably enjoys cosplay (if he didn't I don't know why he'd be on that article) he should know the struggle of loving anime, wanting to cosplay and not really have a good amount of characters that actually look like you because let's face it there aren't a ton of black anime characters to choose from. If I had the same mentality as him I'd never cosplay because I don't look like most of the characters that I'd want to cosplay.
This makes me sad. Whites shouldn't be allowed to cosplay. All they do is shit on Japanese culture and it's just racist. Any white people reading this, please don't cosplay another ethnicity.
+Jesus So that means Japanese people can't cosplay as white characters in anime such as Nagisa (Assassination Classroom) simply cause of their skin tone.
I'm glad i stumbled across this video. I've never gotten the chance to cosplay but I've always wanted to but at times i feel limited because I worry about what other people would think if I were to cosplay as one of my favorite male characters. After watching this, I feel a little more confident about maybe trying to put together a cosplay for myself. Thank you Akidearest
Hi I’m a 14 year old and I think of myself as overweight but your words have inspired me to do a Rem cosplay that I’ve been shy to do for a while but now I think I will do it and it’s thanks to your words.I love you Aki your amazing and beautiful keep doing what you do!😘
being a black female it hard to um change my appearance for a character lol so when people like him say stuff like that i like oh really let me bleach my skin xD like wtf you want from me stfu an leave me be.
I really freaking needed this right now, because, I need glasses to see and I can't wear contacts, and I'm in the midst of making a cosplay where the character doesn't have glasses, and I felt really hung up about the fact that it isn't acurrate to what he looks like. I was starting to feel quite crappy about it, and how people may judge the fact that I'm wearing glasses as a fault on my part, when in fact if I take them off I can't see a foot in front of my face. But this video helped me feel a bit better about the whole situation, thank you for making it!
What you said at 3:20 is very true. Last year for Halloween I cosplayed as Luca; Yuramec's OC from Tumblr. When I told her that she was very happy and excited to hear and see that someone is going to cosplay as her OC. Love your videos akidearest :D
I love your positive attitude so much when I watch your videos I cry happy tears because you give me hope 💗 keep on rocking love, you're doing great and I love your channel!!!
People like this make me crazy. It's simply fun to cosplay. Artists would love to see anyone wanting to be a character they created, no matter what they look like. I bet most also love to see different takes on their creation.
Thank you for this we need to show people like the man that any cosplaying is awesome, since you put in the time and money to do the cosplay thats important and it doesn't really matter about how it comes out as long as your happy and like the costume
I completely agree. For example I Just cosplay in my room with whatever i have in my wardrobe and small make up bag, nothing serious at all yet i find just that and the creativity of it fun and if someone likes it, even better.
this video is so inspiring it makes me so happy. i'm a brunette, over wait, a chick, and don't really match the body style of characters i cosplay as and many characters i do are blonde or brunet and tall and thin or even dudes i don't wear wigs dye my hair or try to squeeze my self in to some weird get up so accentuate my boobige and make my hips smaller i go and have fun iv'e had my close friends spend lots of money on cosplay and still aren't happy but then i go and hand make my own on a budget and feel like iv' done a great job and have them nitpick my work and that broke my heart and went off on the about how cosplay is not about looking 100% the character its about being the one who inspires you and to love what you do. (sorry about the rant and perks for the cards against humanity in the background)
I always watch this video before going to a con, because it makes me feel really good about myself and my body type. thank you aki, honestly this video is such a good motivation for me and many others❤
As a 14 year old who wants to cosplay Sebastian (Black Butler) at the next Anime North, this makes me happy. ^^
Keylocks my older brother cosplayed sebastian and hes tan and has heavy acne.. almost 20 people asked for a picture.. dont worry
Just next month I'm cosplaying Ciel, and man do these videos help more than you'd expect.
relatable
I wish I can go 😢
But I encourage you for cosplaying as Sebastian 😁 I hope you have fun
I'm 15

Thank you! Seriously this helped me feel okay to cosplay again .
back in 2007 I Went to my first convention and sadly it was my last. I cosplayed as Soubi and I got a lot of people being friendly and I had a blast I even entered a contest. We were standing to be judged and the judged looked at me and said " You would of won but your to fat to be your character"

Frisk/Chara Dreemurr
I actually felt like I looked great and a lot of people wanted pictures with me. I get I'm big but I'm happy.
If it is a contest, then "accuracy" should be one of the point .-. but I still think that calling people "too fat for -" is wrong
Di ralis The winning team was no where near accurate either but yes the judges said not only was I to fat for my character but to fat to cosplay in general.
+Nero Zero okay then, have a good day :D
+Nero Zero I hope you slapped bitch for that one! If you look at my pic I actually had to wear a male version of a girdle. Nobody actually looks exactly like their character...
She put a Hestia cosplay in the thumbnail.
2 years later, she cosplays as Hestia. (Or maybe before that idk)
I knew something was suspicious.
Otaku Bliss haha, I came from there
Otaku Bliss yeah, i clicked only for the thumb
Otaku Bliss lol
Otaku Bliss It was like a year and a half later that she does the Hestia cosplay herself
Very good, I feel a very Markiplier motivation vibe from this xD
lol except I probably curse a lot more than him lmao
Have you seen him in his horror games xD I think you guys are about the same.
+RnG Joker lol yeah I've hung out with him 😊
+akidearest Wanna know something funny? So I went to my first ComicCon... some point last year I wanna say. And as I was browsing the various booths and their goodies, I saw a group of 5 guys walking the opposite direction as me, but these guys, OH MY GOD THESE GUYS ARE AMAZING. They were dressed as Sailor Moon and her 4 partners ((I can't remember their names =P)), and they even let me take a picture of them! I love it whenever guys do stuff like that!
That's really epic, I haven't reached those levels of awesomeness yet.
Honestly..i don't find superman attractive...
XD
Same
kai ! SSAAAAMMMMEEEE!!!!
s a m e
Wait is he supposed to be?
Cosplaying is most definitely all about having fun. So many people say they can't cosplay a certain character just because they have the wrong skin color, the wrong chest size, the wrong weight/body. And I say fuck it, do whatever cosplay you want, no matter what race, weight, gender, etc you are.
***** :D
i agree, like, take a man for example! he wants to dress up as hasune miku (don't know how to spell it =~=) he can!
HorizontalHayKay It's Hatsune Miku lol. But that is definitely very true. :)
+Yoruko Chikokoro OK, thank you =) and, yes, tis true :D
Well I don't think whites should cosplay Asian characters. Most whites that cosplay always say to have to be white or etc to cosplay and well Whites are racist and they shouldn't cosplay anime characters, it's like blackfacing, but more white washing than anything.
I don't think you look overweight, in my eyes your really cute and pretty :)
Chocolate_japan ! Same
Yeah I think so too!
She's skinnier than my mom actually
Right shes so cute and squishy
댠ㄴㅁㄷ
i cosplayed as a horse
So did my brother.
***** yas
You went as Jean from SNK
okami amano lol
Might as well have cosplayed Jean from attack on titan
In middle school, I dressed up as Katara from Avatar with a great costume made by my mom for Oni-Con. One jerk (probably related to Mr.BagofDicks) told me I was all wrong and shouldn't be allowed to cosplay Katara because I'm pale. I was able to shake the comment and still have fun, but really. It's nice to hear your rants Akidearest. Feels.
Gasps! Dollightful!! I didn't expect to see you here. I'm really happy you watch Akidearest like I do, or atleast used to
Ooooomg
I LOVE YOUR VIDOEOS
:)
If you're white please don't cosplay as her. What you're doing is basically black-facing.
Oh yes because there are actually blue skinned people. Thank you so much for your insight
+Jesus would you call a cosplay racist if the person you're cosplaying as is an alien with no established race
If you don't know the movie, then all I have to say is that two black men pose as white women.
akiwisdom...sounds like a good discussion series for aki who agrees?
Thank you!
It’s even harder for me, I’m black so I feel uncomfortable cosplaying a Japanese or white characters
I appreciate videos like this. I'm also pretty overweight and a lot of comments like that discourage me from ever cosplaying anything.
please never let that get in the way.. I hope you will cosplay and have fun doing it!!
CrimsonOptics well, for health reasons weight is important, but for cosplay not so much
I love this.
Brock from Pokémon
Black Star from Soul Eater
Neptune Vasilias from RWBY
And none of them really even have the right type of facial features for me to match with my uncommon (as regards character designs) mix of Caucasian and African-African features.
(Not TOO much in character with Deadpool though.)
whites shouldn't cosplay Asians people or anime characters -.-
Jesus ...Are you being sarcastic? Or are you actually serious?
Jesus Umm excuse me? Can you not be so rude. I'm white and I can cosplay someone that's Asian or from an anime all I want and if you have a problem with that don't watch videos about cosplay
Sai Prime Hmmm idk let me think.. (This is to your first comment btw)
Hey. So once this dude was like "Cosplay and anime is stupid. Why do people even cosplay? It's just like they're faking them." And we had a huge argument then I said "We're doing it for fun and showing our love for the character." Then he said "So you're worshiping them?"
... I quit with him right then and there...
So, because we dress as Elsa because we love her, we worship her? Because we love out friends and imitate them with a costume, we worship them?
Woooow I don't even know what to say to that
If you Said cosplay is nonsense,It still having point if you dont like
But you will become Wanted Terrorist if you Insult with "Worshipping"
Me: Just Shipping mate....
I imagine its the same as people who wear the jersey of their favorite sport player and try to reenact their plays. That dude sounds so closed minded
Youre not that fat!!! And btw, I completely love your hair!!!
Hasse Mees Same
I cosplayed as Ciel Phantomhive from Black Butler and I didn't get his actual cosplay,I made it. But I still had fun!!
Each video I've watched of yours has had the same chicken nugget ad.
THE CHICKEN IS TAKING HOLD OVER THE WORLD.
Wtf
dafuq did I read? I think aki is a sponsor 😂😂😂
+Hodoko Akina SAME THEYRE EVERYWHERE
+Hodoko Akina Oh my god... same.
hold me senpai
+Hodoko Akina SAME IM CRYING
Aki fat? Then I'm an overweight whale
right? lol.
+Ryoku Honda The struggle xD she's curvy where It's good while I hve some akward lumps of fat akwardly spread on my body '-'
ICANalwaysMaKeYouSmIle aww dun be like that.you can always cosplay as umaru in her chibi form! she's really adorable and all u have to do is get a blanket and wig if needed then you're whole body is covered! plus I'm sure that u are perfect jut the way u are! n-n
+Ryoku Honda OMG that is such a good idea 😉 thanks n-n
ICANalwaysMaKeYouSmIle yeh np! HAPPY COSPLAYING
BitterBall X Sweet. I love Armin
And now you 14•~•
Oh heck yeah!!
I love attack on Titan!!
I watched the whole 2 minute ad, then clicked on it because I want aki to have nice things
Jojo Midley i watched the whole ad too... but it was only 6 seconds
Hieranna same
A black Batman with a mustache sounds pretty cool to be honest.
Spider Man got 2 origin stories while Batman got a crap load of them and no one complained a single time.
xD
There are loads of different Spider-Men, and there must be a Mexican one.
I agree but instead of changing already established characters let's just make more!!!
Cosplay is not enough fun, I'll do crossplay x)
XD
hi fellows lol
bruh screw the last air bender its all about the last genderbender (avatar the last air bender is amazing though in my opinion )
O30 ooooh kinky
That's really fun too, also genderbenders (since a lot of the characters I like are the cute type/drags/girls I have to crossplay or create a male version).
I'm worried to make a Ciel (girl version) crossplay and enter to the con bathroom *if even possible because that's a HUGE dress * and have everyone be like WHOT
wow, I didn't think she was overweight. She has sucha beautiful figure
and then there is me
THANK YOU AKI!!!! you are a blessing for the cosplay community, I wish all of us cosplayers would think like you
For me, professional cosplayers, who are paid to go to cons, should be pretty close. You're being paid to be that character. My mom has a friend that has Clone trooper armor and he goes to cons as a clone trooper and gets paid for it.
However if you're an amateur cosplayer for the fun of it, then have at it! Have fun!
we demand to see ur search history xD
SSP AMV yes
SSP AMV ikr
SSP AMV wow..
This past Halloween I cosplayed as an anime character, and some people thought I didn't dress up for Halloween 😂😂
who was it
Something that seems to be going around in my group of friends is an issue related to a group cosplay we're planning on doing in a few months.
Tf I don't agree. Cosplay is for people to enjoy themselves and have fun
I a zitty 14 year old. I had TONS of people who wanted a picture with me as L
Lol
YAAAAAY A FELLOW L
+Simon The Digger
Tell me about it...
Then u must be skinny lol
Am i the only one who thinks chubby cosplayer are way cuter then stick thin cosplayers? 😂
I'm chubby but everyone makes fun of me. That's why I don't cosplay anime.. Okay I cosplay it but sometimes..
X(
Molianna725 i'm a little overweight but i don't care what others think about my cosplays. xD In my opinion everyone who wants, should cosplay no matter what other people say, in the end only counts if you are happy with your cosplay.
Heh.. and again thanks for those words. Makes my day and makes me more confident about certain things. ^3^
Anna Zita well, the one downside is the legs rubbing together.
Awwwe that's really nice of you! I'm pretty chubby and j just started cosplay and I really like it X3
I'm over weight, an I'm going to be Chloe Price (Life is Strange) for Halloween. People can deal with it! ^_^
+SweetSunrise Chloe is an awesome character. I'm sure you will look great!
Gold Heart Films She is! Thank you! ^_^
+TheNerdyKitten That's the spirit! That would've been an awesome coplay x3
+TheNerdyKitten i think her tatoo is soo kewl!
Bakas Assemble They are!
my cosplays that I've actually gone out in,
Jeff
Mettaton
Frisk
Characters are meant to be loved! We love these characters because of their CHARACTER. Their PERSONALITY and want they stand for. Not how they look like. When you're cosplaying it's not supposed to look 100% accurate. It can, but it doesn't have to. That's not the POINT. The point it to have fun feeling like your favorite character.
Let these people love these characters! So what if they're body type doesn't fit the character? Goddammit if all you see in superman is his muscles and nothing else then I feel sorry for you. I'm sorry you feel that way about characters
"You're supposed to be your cosplay"
If that's your logic, I can't play Pokemon because I'm not Japanese and the main character is.
Which is why that logic is not logic, it's bs
I like your opinions on cosplay, many people on twitter & fb told me I shouldn't cosplay due to my height, weight, skin colour & ethnicity >X-] I just laugh at their narrow view on the subject
It's alright. I believe whities shouldn't cosplay I'm general, especially anime characters, it's just racist.
+Jesus How is it racist? That would be like telling people "You're not a true christian because" (so on & so on)
+Jesus what's racist is telling someone they can't wear a costume because of their race lmao
+smarties108 I hear it a lot on twitter >X-] I've been harassed by many about ethnicity there
People make fun of me when I cosplay because my skins taned
Fiffal s same
Fiffals I feel ya! Most of the anime girls are pale and I’m SUPER tan! Tan to the point I don’t want to be! 😂
I don’t care if having tanned skin makes the character less canon because tanned cosplayers are beautiful.
I’m hispanic but I’ve still decided to do a Navi from LOZ cosplay. Don’t listen to those people, at least you’re out there having fun and being who you want to be!
Fiffals well those people suck, i am sure you are an incredible cosplayer and don’t let ANYONE tell you otherwise
This Halloween I'm cosplaying as hatsune Miku
lol I'm doing yokune ruko. or hatsune miku.
+dirk the strider cool
JOLOVLOGS Sweet
I exist cosplaying Kagamine Rin. Like always.
Nice! Hope you had fun.
I am getting my cosplay today! And this helps my confidence
Thank you!
Just saying... You don't look overweight.
BTW I'm a girl
+Ouran highschool Host Club Fan Girl L's a cool cat
I think it's a great idea! Also L is one of my favourite anime characters
+Jamie Barnett ikr
+akidearest thanks for replying aki
Idk if to cosplay as Yato, Ciel, Zero, Death The Kid, L, Kaneki, or Touka 😭
yato! both genders look amazing in a yato cosplay~!
Sunny bunny c: Fvck you're right idk I love both characters I think I might do both for different days at the Con
You should
Kaneki
I fucking love Yato, dtk, and ciel
I'm biologically a female (identify as agender) and I cosplay as male anime characters. I have a bit bigger chest and can't find a decent binder. I don't give a flying fuck. Why do people insist on putting others down.
This made my nerves calm down about going to animazement in cosplay. I was afraid about getting judged for making my cosplay out of my old costumes but now I feel so much more better about my cosplay. Thanks Aki(and commenters) for raising my confidence about my cosplay!
"i..was looking at a few articles"
**types hentaistream**
I definitely agree with you that what makes a "good cosplay" is being happy with the cosplay and having fun. ^^ I've been self-conscious about my cosplays before, afraid of what others would think of my cosplay.
In a month I'll cosplay as Azuki from Nekopara :3
Azuki is just 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜!!
Tykaysia Brown ikr!
Thank you so much, Aki. I've always so scared to cosplay because most of my favorite character have white skin and mine is brown and I'm not skinny enough.Watching this makes me more confident about myself... Thank you so much, now I'm not afraid to cosplay them :)
im cosplaying as me
I do that every year
I do that every day
I’m a pro at that 😂
i do that every millisecond
I can't do that
Thank you for saying this. But I also know that I don't have to just limit myself to that, all thanks to you
won't lie at the start i was staring at Aki's chest
Who wasnt
Meep... thank you so much Aki. This made me so happy. I’m really young and my skin tone is quite dark considering the fact that I’m African American. When I think of cosplaying someone I think of how much fun it’ll be to do it not how much I look like it or match them. It’s really nice to know someone agrees with me!
My brother said I couldn't cosplay as Kyoya from Ouran high school host club
Because I was I girl, but when I put on my cosplay I look almost identical to the character but that's still not enough for him "you don't have an Adam's apple." And stupid things like that, but the jokes on him when I'm dressed as Kyoya I look hotter then he normally is
Wow that's dumb, I'm literally cosplaying Mitsukuni at a con this weekend and I'm also a girl
+TEMFLAKESPRODUCTIONS Lol, I hope you have a nice time at the con
Gonna cosplay Nekozawa here!! *le wave*
Majora Studios you can wear a wig and contacts lol
i have done numerous cosplays at my conventions. I agree the whole thing is is just have fun and show your appreciation of love of the character.
At portconmaine this year in June I went as honey from ouran high school host club and chubby, and tall and I didn't even have a wig for the cosplay but people still wanted to take pictures of me and even Reconized me as honey
Haley Craft03818 now that no wig is just lazy XD
Haley Craft03818 awesome
I might be going to a anime expo convention soon in about 1 year and a month
Same feels when aki said about being an artist and getting to know that your oc is being cosplayed worldwide
That's happiness for every artist! because it shows that some people do notice!
+Kayla Gaines That is definitely fucked up.
Cookie Coo what?
Akidearest, I want to thank you for making this video. There are a lot of people you have inspired. Thank you again.
One time I cosplayed K1 B0, and i'm a girl
somebody said i couldn't cosplay him because I was a girl, and he was a boy
and i pointed out he wasn't a boy, he was a robot, and his preferred pronouns are he/him
so, by their logic, only robots could cosplay K1 B0...
**inhale** **exhale** *N O*
they are robophobic smh
You're really awesome. I just stumbled upon your channel and have been stuck here ever since ;) Not that I mind. I love your videos, they make me laugh or get me thinking. Please keep up the good work! :) I like how you're obviously yourself and not trying to be anything else, I respect it and I don't think you should do anything else than that. A lot of my own insecurities fade away little by little thanks to you and your video's. Anyway, you inspire me.
Hehe my new account(now I won't have trouble finding this comment of mine, I hope I'll get akidearest to read it :) And maybe.. react :)
What's the difference between Cosplay and 'dress up'? ( I'm asking for feel) in a nice way
Cosplay= Costume Play I believe I don't think there's that much of a dramatic difference but with cosplay people put more emphasis on detail.
Hailey cosme Thank you
Cosplay is typically when you try to match the character as much as possible (personalities included) since it is costume roleplay. If you're just dressing up then the personality doesn't really matter I suppose
smarties108 how do I cosplay an animal-character if I have to match personality?🤔
Edit: (All my favourite characters are non-human)
Zkyurem plenty of people design human versions of animal characters, you could do that.
Thank you.
are you also a whovian too? and if you are who is your favorite doctor?
my favorite doctor is kotori doctor
iSummer Bur excuse me? i am talking about doctor who, a british tv show
+roschan dalis I was wondering if anyone else had noticed the TARDIS in the background :D My favorite Doctors are Tenant and Capaldi. What about you?
Melody Fussell my favorite doctor is David Tennant. I do like Christopher Eccleston and Matt Smith, but the tenth doctor is my favorite
+roschan dalis 10th Doctor 4 Lifeeeee
Wow. This made me feel better. I was made fun of wanting to cosplay because I have curly hair and I am very short. Now I'm feeling confident because of Aki. Thnx!!!
My opinion on what makes a good cosplay is that it needs to me 1) reasonably accurate and 2) reasonably well made.
sup aki, as I was listening to this I completely agree. having fun and making friends is what make cosplaying fun. especially for kids and those insecure to do so themselves. it is nice to go around and be a good person to motivate others to go for it because someone will say something nice.
Preach.
You are not overwieght, "overweight" its just getting smaller❤️
Hi I’m a 14 year old and I think of myself as overweight but your words have inspired me to do a Rem cosplay that I’ve been shy to do for a while but now I think I will do it and it’s thanks to your words.I love you Aki your amazing and beautiful keep doing what you do!😘
being a black female it hard to um change my appearance for a character lol so when people like him say stuff like that i like oh really let me bleach my skin xD like wtf you want from me stfu an leave me be.
thank you Aki, this made me more confident in my own cosplays.
Your overweight? I think you look good!
*You're. Grammar nazi-ing myself before anyone else can.
Thanks for giving the inspiration, Aki! This will definitely come in handy for when I go to MomoCon in Georgia in May
Aki is such a master of wisdom!!!
I always watch this video before going to a con, because it makes me feel really good about myself and my body type. thank you aki, honestly this video is such a good motivation for me and many others❤
i luv her so much and i love her outtro
