That was stunning, goes to show that when people say they don’t hook up on surface lures for pike, it could be because they are fishing the lures completely and yes more please
We had the hooks off in this video just due to the weather, I'll do a video on actually fishing with these hollow frogs at some point, there is a nak to hooking up and it's a slight pause after this like hits it, and then a very hard swing lol
@@luresonly What would you say is the maximum depth of water in which perch will strike a lure in in winter. I always imagine them sitting close to the bottom in cold water, as they move less that makes surface strikes unlikely unless the water is relatively shallow. Feel free to tell me I'm wrong. I'm always open to new ideas.
I've caught perch in the Trent in winter in less than 18inches, even when it's cold they will move for a surface lure, but as you've said they have to be pretty close to the lure, I don't personally flog surface lure in the coldest months as theres usually a more effective method
@@luresonly Thanks for the reply, it's much appreciated. I've largely been using Z Man creature baits on jigs on the canal in winter, on the basis that I can fish it slow and in the bottom few inches. Warmer water I'd be tempted towards cranks, most of mine float and dive to about 1metre. I'll have to look into some surface lure. I've subscribed mate, good luck with the channel
Awesome seeing the wake of a pike coming in fast so clearly in these shots! Great video
Cheers mate! And yeah there's nothing much better than when you see it coming 😁

Amazing to see the perch so clear 👌
Yeah they are awesome fish, this was filmed in summer but the small perch can be targeted very effectively on the surface if you find them shallow

Awesome pal
Thanks matey
Great vid, I didn't realise perch would go for surface lures. Maybe because I usually only fish for them in winter.
Two of the perch in my video a couple of days ago were on the surface! Perch readily feed on the surface all year, just smaller windows in the winter
