Doja is good with wordplay and switching up tones and flows. Her pop and R&B sensibility also allows her to get more romantic or sentimental with her raps without it becoming cheesy. Her most underrated aspect is her storytelling, approaching certain topics a bit differently than most modern female rappers would. (Honestly, one of the issues with Scarlet, despite being a solid hip-hop album, is that it could have used more of Doja’s unique storytelling). Most of her music isn’t “bar heavy”. But people sound dumb when they say she’s not a solid rapper.
