My son needs a transplant and so far he's been turned down by 3 transplant centers (Vanderbilt University, Mayo Clinic, and the University of Alabama). He was turned down due to his esophagus not working as it should. I am reaching out to everyone and doing everything I can as his mother that wants to save her son. I am still trying to reach out to any and everyone. I am praying that one day my son will be able to tell his story of a successful transplant. If anyone knows anything I should do that I haven't done, please please let me know. Thank you!!
My wife had a double lung transplant in 2020. It was performed at Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland Ohio. Blessings to you and your family ❤

The lung donor saved your life! Nobody else 💙💚
Science did.
What a miracle! Just saw a RUclips vlogger who also had Stage 4 lung cancer and is in and out of the hospital with excruciating pain and sadly the cancer had spread to her brain now. She is supposed to start some kind of experimental treatment soon but now seeing this wonder if a lung transplant like this would help and benefit her to live longer and get rid of some of her cancer and live to see her kids grow up. Her name is Jenny Apple.
Takes my breath away!
literally!

This gives me hope. I was diagnosed with extreme emphysema 2 years ago and was referred to Oshner in New Orleans and they determined I was a good candidate for the double lung transplant. I'm now waiting to go back for a final interview and then they will make the decision if I get the transplant or not. I was told if I don't I have less than 5 yrs. So yes I'm scared. It's out of my hands now.
Hi there! Good luck! You can do it! I’ll be six years post double lung on October 16th. Did you make the list yet?
@@hikerhobby1204 congrats I'm glad it went well for you, I'm not on the list yet, I've got to go through the whole dentist, doctor, full body exam plus a heart Cath to see how much pressure is on my heart...THEN..if all checks out I'll be able to be put on the list. I'm everything from grateful to scared to death so I'm looking into a therapist to talk to. Did you have it done in New Orleans?
@@mrneonsplat Yes, the whole pre work up is daunting! I had mine done at the University Hospital in San Antonio. TX. My lung function was 17% before transplant. I knew one more lung infection would send me to Jesus so I knew I had two choices, live or die. Seeing a counselor is a great idea. I’m not going to say the days following surgery were easy. However, so very worth it. I’ve seen my son married, and now have my first grandchild with another on the way. I’ve taken up hiking. For a year post transplant I stood in the woods and cried (I’m a women) because I could actually walk in the woods. I could barely walk thru my house prior to transplant. Oh, my lung function (not SPO2 or oxygen level) ranges from 90% to 100% now. Beats 17%! Only you know if you’re ready!
@@hikerhobby1204 that is amazing! I've only had 1 collapsed lung and it kept me in the hospital for 26 days. The crazy part is that I felt absolutely no pain, I just woke up at lik e 4 one morning and couldn't catch my breath, so I got up and sat in my chair and as long as I didn't lay down I was fine(ish). I sat there for 4 days. I turn the big 50 this year and have 2 unmarried college sons and no grandchildren and I want to live to spoil at least 1. The hardest part is I've been single for over 4 years and doing this alone and since i moved to be closer to my lung doctor no friends either, but I keep a smile and positive attitude for my boys. Again congrats and hope I can follow in your footsteps.
@@hikerhobby1204 how long post transplant did it take before you could do regular daily activities yourself?
Donor lungs are already exceedingly high demand, with limited supply.
Including lung cancer patients, where a not insignificant risk of relapse or metastasis exists, will increase difficult ethical choices.
But I guess that applies less in the USA where money speaks louder that medical outcomes.
Yay 😊
The doctor is Indian.
Ankit Bharat !
Great to see such heart touching story !
Hi can I have the hospital name pls
My mother has a very bad case of COPD
I wonder if she can get a transplant

I thought they didn’t do this for cancer patients
Which is why this is revoluationary, and one of the requirements is for the cancer to be limited to the lungs.

Why aren't they qualified if they have emphysema? Why do they have to have cancer
I had emphysema and had a double lung almost six years ago.
@@hikerhobby1204 Me too, 7 yrs ago, emphysema and COPD..
"Why aren't they qualified if they have emphysema? Why do they have to have cancer"
You have it backwards.
@@rjlchristie Yea! How are you doing?

Talk about what kind of insurance you have... Employer Group??? Medicare What??
That "one" Doctor is certainly an Asian😅
He sounds like a smoker. Smoker's don't deserve a second chance.
The video stated that both of the donor recipients were non-smokers. Maybe the guy had some other issues that led to hoarseness.
