    Slanted Lens is the real deal when it comes to tutorial videos. Something a lot of other channels don't cover, and JP covers in such a clear and efficient way. Love it.

    Always straight to the point. Very informative. Illustrative examples. One question. Did you use the SAME strobe power for all the soft boxes of the different sizes? Thanks a lot, Jay.

    • @TheSlantedLens
      @TheSlantedLens  4 года назад

      Yes, we used the same strobe power for all of the boxes. I did adjust the aperture 1/2 stop to compensate for the brighter silver lined boxes.

    Very informative - to really see the difference. But I really miss seeing the difference between deep and shallow softboxes!

      That would be another great comparison. Next time!

    I must admit to rarely using a regular strip box now days, though I do use 2 gridded strip boxes for hair lights. Generally, I find I either reach or an Octa, or diffused beauty dish (particularly the old Bowens 21" white).
    Of course, strip boxes are an essential bit of kit for any budding studio photographer and of course, the big advantage of a strip box over an octa is that due to the flat edges, you can having it slightly higher in a lower room, which can make a big difference.

    Thanks for the information. I have octoboxes that fold up like an umbrella. I bought a 7 foot octbox but I did not realize it did not fold up because I wasn't paying attention. All my other ones folded up. I thought they all did. Now, I just leave it put together and hang it on the ceiling out of the way. It was a little disappointing and I have only used it a few times. But I will try to use it more. Also, I looked through your videos and 7 years ago you did a shoot with grids, but it was on reflectors. All my softboxes came with grids. When would you use these in portrait photography or you don't and they are more for special effects like the neo-noir shots you did 7 years ago.

    • @TheSlantedLens
      @TheSlantedLens  2 года назад

      We use the grids often. They are great for keeping the light more isolated on your talent and not affecting the background.

    OMG! Great tip on how to pull the rods out of the mount. I've been pulling the rods from the other end all this time because from the mount was so difficult. Lol.

    ...You do make the learning easy with your style and production. Yet whenever I open the current tutorial etc., I've got have those tissues ready for the clips including the "give-aways". TSL has really got some serious gear. However, here in Canada...need I go on, sob sob? BTW, nice to notice the consistent film set habits for the pro and amateur: white mark for the model, tennis balls etc. all the common sense stuff that is just as practical for home studio. The best modest soft boxes I could get happen to be octagon. Not much difference to my non DOP eyes. Thanks JPM, I'll click now.

    Really nice tutorial! Can you help me choose the biggest size i can use with a godox ad200pro? I was told that smaller flashes cant fill up all softboxes but still don’t understand this and don’t know what to get. I do know I need the biggest one I can get for my light. Thanks!

    • @TheSlantedLens
      @TheSlantedLens  3 года назад

      Small flashes will fill a large box, you just loose power. A medium size box should work great with the Godox.

    What if you're like me and you don't want to or can't afford to spend on expensive studio strobes? I have a pair of speedlights instead. What is the largest size softbox you would use with either a single speedlight or a pair together? Currently I have a 30 inch square softbox and a 36 inch shoot-through umbrella.

    • @TheSlantedLens
      @TheSlantedLens  4 года назад

      You can send a speedlight through any size of softbox. You just need a stand to hold it and you also loose a lot of power. Speedlights don't have a lot of power.

    Hey did you try litra studio with one of theose big soft boxes? Does it get the job done? I am looking to buy litra studio because its very versatile. Suggestions please.

    • @TheSlantedLens
      @TheSlantedLens  4 года назад +1

      With LitraStudio you will have to come up with a bracket to adapt the softbox to the LitraStudio lights. It has plenty of power to make that work.
