    Godfather Parts I and 2 are genuine masterpieces. Seven Samurai can be hard for modern viewers to watch, but it's amazing. The Prestige is Nolan's most underrated film and arguably my favorite of his. And, although not even in the top 50, Lawrence of Arabia is one of the greatest films ever made. Same goes for Apocalypse now, Bridge on the River Kwai, and No Country for Old Men (a modern classic).

    Watch The Good The Bad and The Ugly as soon as you possibly can. You seem to be a big fan of Tarantino, and Tarantino was heavily influenced by Sergio Leone's work. Tarantino himself says TGTBATU is "the best directed movie of all time."
    I know you said you're not big on westerns, but it's not your typical western. It's a very artful film with memorable characters and a beautiful soundtrack.

    The IMDB list is the top 50 *as judged by those who vote*. And there is absolutely a recency bias to its list, because of the number of people who consider older movies as unworthy of their attention regardless of their quality. I've heard numerous people from the 40-and-under demographic say "It's in black and white... I'm not watching that." You want to smack them upside the head, but instead you just come to the realization that they have closed minds, and move on.

    1. What SHOULD be on the list? (It's subjective, so, what's on YOUR top 50?)
    2. What movies do you consider to be "Drop The Remote" and watch? You know, you're flipping thru channels, see a movie, and drop the remote and watch the rest of the movie no matter where it is in the movie!

    It surprises me what made the list. Some of these movies I wouldn’t call “great.” They’re just entertaining and fun popcorn movies that are well made. From a technical perspective, Who Framed Roger Rabbit should be on the list. The way Zemeckis combined live action and cartoons without CG and made it look more convincing than anything made today is incredible. CGI has ruined everything.

    Two films by Studio Ghibli (Japanese animation studio led by Hayao Miyazaki for years) in the Top 50 according to IMDB. There are some really good movies by them like Princess Mononoke, My Neighbour Totoro, and Kiki's Delivery Service to name a few.

    Great work as always Entertain Guy. Just for the record though, and people will be losing their minds over movie trivia, Juror #6 was played by Edward Binns in the movie. Not Jack Lemmon. Jack wishes he was in this, but apparently it didn't affect his career too much! Mr. Binns is one of those character actors who was like in every film for about a five year period in the fifties and sixties.

    What you get from watching foreign language films is a true appreciation of film as an art form, seeing a film that wasn't made with a multimillion dollar budget but instead a desire to tell a story broadens your mind. Give Kurasawa or Bergman or Tarkovsky a try. As for this list I don't see 2001, Apocalypse Now, among others and so it indicates to me that it lacks any merit.

    Way too many modern-era movies on this list. I'm of the opinion that it takes a decade or 2 to determine if a movie is truly a classic. Maybe do multiple videos to cover different eras? ETA: The Untouchables is the movie with Kevin Costner and Sean Connery, about federal agent Eliot Ness (Costner) going after Al Capone (Bob DeNiro) in gangster-era Chicago. Great on-location shooting featuring Chicago landmarks such as The Rookery building, La Salle street, and Union Station. Connery is great as an Irish* cop who joins forces with Ness (*and who speaks with a Scottish accent, because Connery never changes voices whether he's playing an American, a Russian, or an Irishman - LOL).

    The IMDb top 250 should be taken with a massive grain of salt. Granted, it does a significantly better job of representing cinematic quality than pop music charts do musical quality, but one should always keep in mind that excellence and popularity are seldom linked.

      @BarbaOlof Год назад

      I feel that the top 250 is a mix of some of the best mainstream movies and a bunch of hard to watch “arty” movies.
      I’ve seen almost all of them, and I have a really hard time understanding the appeal some of them.
      Then again, I guess different people grade by different criteria. I sort of use the “to what degree were I entertained”, while others might use more of technical or academic criteria.
      My lowest score for a movie in top 250 is 3, given to “The passion of Joan of Arc”.

    IMDB ratings combine critic ratings with general audience ratings so it's not the best site to research the best films ever made. Audience ratings could be influenced by hype and mainstream appeal which is why several modern films are on this list and something more deserving like Citizen Kane isn't. More recent critical analysis of The Dark Knight, Gladiator, and The Green Mile for example reveal that they have too many flaws to be considered a top 50 film of all time. While Rotten Tomatoes gets a lot of hate, at least they separate the two ratings into their own categories so I find it to be more reliable.

    In these times it is really hard a black and white film to be top 1 or even in top 50, There is definitely some I disagree should not be here. For my the top 1 is the original Disney 20000 leagues under the see, the color work and all is just lovely especially if your sucked in immersed. The only spot of bother is a guitar scene towards the second half that knock 0.1 points for me. 9.9. 2nd movie for me is Her, 9.8. 3rd I forgot the name but a horror movie low budget independent production amateurish film. Citizen Kane feel too random in story and slow for now, what's usually praised and considered to be top 1 is the lighting, but I didn't find it such it can be top 1 by that alone, I would agree it is excellent for the time and above average enjoying purely the lighting even today. Also it is reference to the time and any tabloid reference would felt wayside now and not as much a connection as it is now so it is not as timeless as it is considered.
