Beautiful. I was very lucky in UK, "junior School" to be introduced to this. A school day would always start with a school assembly that was also, (not sure if it has changed) legally had to include religious worship and giving thanks, as well as the little presentation given by a teacher. It maybe lasted 20 minutes to half an hour. Very occasionally a wise teacher would wheel out a record player and tell us the story behind the inspiration to this piece and the natural beauty of the world, and encourage us all to listen and close our eyes and imagine it all. I think I learned more in those rare assemblies than I ever did in my whole school education and this remains one of my most favourite classical pieces of music. xx
Fantastic performance -- beautiful, haunting, dreamy, harmonious, and perfectly balanced: vintage Mendelssohn. My sincere thanks to Nathalie Stutzmann and the Mito Chamber Orchestra. It is a delight to listen to!

@Kristopher Briggs i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and I'm trying it out now. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
I conducted this piece in a masterclass, and this is the first recording I’ve seen that actually makes sense of what the mentor was trying to get me to do. Brilliant.
i love this one more than any other i think. we did it in our band class so often that our director got sick of it. god i love it, it's kind of boring to listen to, but if you were THERE and actually doing a part for it. it was so dang much fun.
Beautiful performance! If you ever get a chance to visit the cave, do so - or use Google Earth. Mendellssohn captures the sea-surge, the play of light on waves, the wind - everything! (On Google Earth enter 'Fingal's cave, Isle of Staffa, Scotland).
COMPOSIÇÃO LINDÍSSIMA DE MENDELSSOHN. NÃO FOI EXAGERO QUANDO BRAHM DISSE: "EU SACRIFICARIA TÔDA A MINHA OBRA, PARA PODER COMPOR UMA ABERTURA COMO ESTA". QUEM ENTENDE, ENTENDE. QUEM NÃO ENTENDE NADA DE MÚSICA ERUDITA, É MELHOR FICAR CALADO.
sorry to disagree, but the slow tempi throughout most of the overture tends to drag the piece and it sometimes sinks into boredom. I realize the Conductor's intention to relish in the beauty of the phrases and create a relaxed feel and she certainly doing this deliberately, but the Hebrides is not a particularly peaceful place and I prefer a more urgent, romantic interpretation, like Claudio Abbado or Karajan.
I like Abbado’s tempo, to me it feels more in line with the tempo of the sea. So far his is my favorite performance. But N Stutzman’s performance was very good

Nathalie Stutzman conducts the orchestra masterfully with emotion and precision bothly. I adore.

Finally after hundreds of years women conductors break through. And this one is absolutely brilliant.

That was probably one of the best recordings of this piece I have ever heard.

While I truly enjoyed this May I suggest listening to Claudio Abbado’s performance. You won’t be disappointed

Marvelous version. Slow tempo in the beginning, just the way I was looking for.
I just discovered this rendition of Fingal's Cave overture and I'm sure glad I did. The conducting was magnificent.
She draws the most perfect "voicing" from the orchestra I have ever heard for this overture. Brava.
Marvelous realization of this Mendelssohn gem! Thank you, Nathalie!
Amazing, this is the best version of this piece. Congratulations Nathalie.
Excellent performance. one of the best Hebrides Overture ever performed.
This is a good a performance of Fingal's Cave as I've ever heard. Maybe better. Excellent! Thank you to the conductor and to the orchestra. Blessings!
Lovely version. Also the enjoyment is very engaging. Liked the dynamics and tempos.
Great.! High Performance, the Conductor and the Musicians, clear, pure, beautiful. Complimenti a tutti.

INKI Y EL PÁJARO MINAHS. RECUERDOS DE LA INFANCIA
Going tonite to listen to City Music rendition.
every single note played by every single instrument was written down.
The only thing that comes to mind whenever I hear this song is that bird from Merrie Melodies and Looney Tunes, the Mynah Bird.
