Totally, the sound is unique to the rotator design. They've always been around but they've been on a slow climb back to popularity. The vintage larger rotors are really commanding high prices and I see more and more modern drummers bringing them back to their sets. Most recently, Nate Morton loaded his show kit up with a set of red rototoms.
comrade Daren, i too am a Roto Tom fan, ever since 1978 (i think), i'm 71 years of age and have been playing since the age of 9. i just purchased a set of 6", 8" and 10" Rotos, its like being a kid at Xmas, WOW!! i've been using a DrumDial to tune them, with EXCELLENT result. all the best, from the people's republic of hackney, London E5!
Awesome, love the jellybean heads, didn’t even realize they were an option so thanks a lot for giving me more things to $pend my money on. rdavidr did a full kit with 18” double roto kicks if you haven’t seen that it’s worth a look.
They sound great- the low tones on the red & grey head’s especially. They color heads look better on rototoms than regular drums. Reminds me of the drummer for Nasty Savage, but he had two standard kick drums under all the rototoms. You are obviously a pro the way you roll around the Tom’s.
Remo no longer makes them, but you can get the full range of sizes from Steve Weiss under their house brand name. A complete set of 7 from 6"-18", which comes with stands, would run just under $900, new. The 18" by itself runs $300.
I'm glad SW is making the 18" now. The Percussion ensemble world keeps several products alive including the larger rotos and PTS heads. I do like collecting the original stuff but I might pick up some SW 18s to make some bass drums! I've spent money on dumber things so this sounds about right for me.
I use the 8 and 10 Roto toms added to my set allowing me to play Rush since I have 2 high and 2 floor toms also. What head sounds best? I have the black dots that are ancient and came with them when bought in 70's. Thanks!
Remo only makes the 6/8/10 trio now. They stopped making the 12/14/16/18 sizes a long time ago. The larger sizes often come up on eBay and Reverb, and sometimes on Craigslist, Kijiji, OfferUp and Marketplace. They're rare but not so much that they're impossible to find. Be ready to pay top dollar for them! The 16" and 18" are going for $300-$500 each, but there's always a deal to be had somewhere. Happy hunting!
Remo still makes the 6/8/10 sizes in black. They stopped making the larger sizes and the chrome versions long ago. If you’re just looking for drums to play, as opposed to collectors drums, check out the Steve Weiss drums. They have them from 12-18 inch sizes with stands.
hey brotha daren, i am a new sub for ya here n i am a oldschool 80's drummer here , i used to own remo rototom's on my kit long time ago, just the 6/8/10 ones in black on a stand , very cool there , only have email here , def. wanna talk m ore > tom !
I’ve always liked roto toms and their sound. Not sure why they’re not popular anymore
In Romania there are very popular for "manele"/ gipsy music 🤣 you can search "rototom manele" 🤣

Ask Danny Carey and Eric Kretz if they are.
SWEET demo man; that was fun

HELL yeah, dude.
Nice playing.
Excellent Tuning!
I picked up an extra 14 and 18 and turned them into a Bass and Snare to go with the full rack.
They were very popular in the 70's! Nearly every top drummer used them those days
And that RTP and timpano is rare as hen's teeth!!
FK... that kettle timpani one sounded fantastic! Where do I get one?
They sound awesome !
I've had the three on a tree.. those were nice
Remo the best? Ha

As of 8/9/2023, Steve Weiss music has all sizes available up to 18"
Yup, the Weiss drums are great utility drums and perfect for gigging. The prices are pretty good as well.
So sick

Where on Earth did you that Remo Rapid Tuning pedal? I've been looking for one for ages and can't find one anywhere!
There's one on Reverb now!! as of 11/29/23. It's at 2k which is on the high side of about right.
cool !!!
Percussion support 🥁
I’m buying the 6” - 10” set but how do you find the bigger sizes I’ve even looked on the remo website? Thanks

Steve Weiss makes/sells the whole range of sizes, new.
Alright!! 👍
Dig it🤟
SDSV in the background? I have one as well! 😂
Haha! Yeah, I’m a huge Simmons fan and collect all those old synths.
where would one get the other sizes?
