Great explanation. I've been looking all over YT for a good explanation of what groove is, but this, by putting Groove tgt with with Time and Feel, is by far the clearest one I can get.
Awsome explanation, and playing, Ive been trying to understand what Sinatra is doing to get his unique phrasing, and the more I look into it like this explanation, the more It seems he was an absolute master at time, feel, groove, and time signatures.
Absolutely! Sinatra was a master! To have great phrasing you have to have a solid command of these concepts, that way you can bend and shape ideas to the perfect spot (instead of just floating away).
If you want a perfect example of just how powerful it is to know Time, Feel and Groove - watch some Karen Carpenter videos and focus on the live performance PRE-1975 when she still played drums and the Carpenters were a band, not a lounge act. Karen had jazz drumming chops, she was a Time, Feel and Groove savant. How she incorporated that into all her vocal performances is truly fascinating. I'm a Zeppelin, Floyd, and Beatles fanatic - but "Game recognizes Game" and that woman had talent dripping out of her pours. Check out the handful of live performances from 1968-1974, not the cheesy variety show TV stuff, the live shows with her on drums AND singing. If you really pay attention, you'll see how perfect her vocals are during live performances and why every singer should be an expert in Time, Feel, and Groove.
now I lack in this part but my question is let's suppose you have a rhythm pattern right then you decide to play just behind the beat swung feel right now in my case actually rhythm patterns suffer i cant come up with patterns bec once i have good musical patterns then i can decide how to place that in a beat so the actual patterns are not good whats lacking? like that is to much thinking which to play long-short how to actually improve this part of music
I’m not sure I understand your question. The process should work regardless of playing swing or straight feel. If you’re trying to swing one hand and keep the other straight, that would be more difficult. If you’re just trying to come up with interesting ideas to play over your constant easier hand, keep the idea going and experiment. If you find yourself “losing” the steady easier part, You need to slow it down until you find a tempo where you can hold it all together. Once it’s working start to increase your speed.
You know when you create a song you are literally filling space and time? Creating something out of nothing? What are you doing? Organizing sounds by adding symmetry. You give it order basically. Apply that on our grand scale and ask yourself can music create itself?
@@trevormadsen Quantize is a term that's used when a computer takes your recorded midi or audio, and aligns it with a tempo grid. Humanized quantize does the same thing, but slightly less perfectly (making it feel more human). These are not terms you need to worry about when you're playing. Shuffle and swing are very similar. Shuffles are used in blues, swing in jazz.
@@joshdistefano149 I know what quantize, humanized quantize, shuffle and swing are. I mean I am confused about "groove" after I saw your video, and I thought it maybe the same quantize, humanized quantize, shuffle or swing! I am not sure actually.

Time first. Yes, "in the beginning was rhythm."
It is the foundation.
tempoooo !

As it turns out, you are not a good music teacher! Because I couldn't figure out the definitions and differences of each of them.
Did you watch the entire video? Many other folks have found it helpful. Granted, the difference are subtle. I'm sorry if it didn't work for you.
@@joshdistefano149 Yes I did, but it got worse! Now I am confused "groove" with quantize, humanized quantize, shuffle and swing!😁
