Reality is whatever doesn't go away when you stop believing in it.
Delusion is whatever is only evidenced where people do believe.
If you are having a crisis of faith, and no one is actively gas-lighting you, your faith is in something you either chose to believe, or were told to believe.
"If what we believe is true, it can not be harmed by investigation.
If what we believe is not true, it needs to be harmed."

@@berenguerx Lol Scientific Materialism has done more damage to scientific progress than any religion ever has, and is still doing damage to it on a regular basis. While men of faith have done more for the field than any scientific materialist ever will, and I don't just mean in ages past, I mean recently too.
If you knew the history of science, you'd now the line you just spoke was a crock cooked up back in the 1800's by charlatans trying to look clever.
Just beceause we know why the sun rises does not mean that it does not rise from the horizon, it's all a matter of perspective.

    • @patrickbuckley7259
      @patrickbuckley7259 4 года назад +5

@Gabe Norman I wouldn't necessarily say that, but I would agree that Scientific Materialism is a toxic element that motivates man to comprimise the field of scientific progress simply to satisfy their own ego's. Motivating celebrities scientists to actively disseminate misinformation and teach unsubstantiated opinions as scientific fact, all with a facade of scientific legitimacy. While their peers actively to to hinder real scientific progress because some of the finding coming out of the cutting egde fields make them feel uncomfortable, or challenge scientific axioms upon which they have built their entire world view.
The moment someone decides to pin their entire world view on taking all the widely accepted scientific theories of their time, is the moment they become fanatically invested in making sure we don't learn anything that might throw those theories into question. What's worse is that Materialists have a bad habit of entering into a kind of Dogmatic Rationalism, where they start to believe that everything they choose to believe must be right because they came to their conclusion rationally, no matter how much or how little reason or logic came into play in their decision making. For example Richard Dawkins entire argument is that we should dismiss religion because it is the more adult thing to do, which is little more than an appeal to our childish desire to appear grown up.
In other words the moment you convince yourself you have the authotiy to dismiss things out of hand, because you have convinced yourself of your own infallible rationality, you aren't looking at the world in a rational way, your expressing an act of blind faith in your own infallibility. You might as well say, "I believe it therefore it must be true."
Often theists have the luxury of knowing that they are not flawless, and that their world view is not entirely rational. Thus making them a lot better at screening themselves for bias. Their is a reason that "Christian Scientists" are seen as quacks while their Materialist equivalents are paid loads of cash to spew outdated or outright false information at an audience on a regular basis.

As a true Christian, living in California, true Christianity is the same here as it was in Florida and NYC and Springfield, Mo.

The difference is between faith and blind faith. Blind faith has no foundation: it lacks any evidence. You can have evidence to believe in your faith and still have doubts. The virtue of faith is that you still belive and act like you should, even in times of doubt.
We can't know absolutely, of course, but we believe evidence has been provided that proves beyond a reasonable doubt that God exists, and that we should therefore follow his commandments.

    • @DarkCyberElf
      @DarkCyberElf 4 года назад +4

@@BigSunshine55 Confidence can be shaken, evidence can be overridden by new evidence. Faith on the other hand need not be blind, but must be unshakeable and child-like (both innocent and ignorant), as Jesus says in the Books of Mark and Matthew. Innocent not in the sense that you are naive to the evils of the world, but innocent faith in the sense that you approach belief in God and his Biblical teachings as a child would: without the adult cynicism and over-examination. We must accept as human beings that there are some things we cannot know, cannot understand or fathom, and very likely will never be capable of grasping in any capacity in our mortal bodies. This is not shameful, and by contrast, the Bible frequently showcases instances of shaming those who claim to "know" and have everything figured out about God, morality, and life.

If we look at faith as being loyal to believing on what someone will do because of their reputation on things they have done before, it changes the perspective, if only a little. If you have a friend who you can call at 3 am because you are in a bind and they have always been there for you, you have faith in that individual. After learning about their strong beliefs, and seeing how many some could be convincing, I still never lost my faith in God and Jesus. I am very glad you did this video and set some things straight. How about I preach the gospel of how ridiculously stupid your belief structure is or that every single facet of your anointed prophet is a mirror image of an older, POLYTHEISTIC belief? So let me get it right, YOU are the FIRST PERSON to understand the scripture to it's accurate tone and ONLY YOU can convince we "false religion" followers of the right way.

Yeah, though I do think that was the point he was trying to make. I think a lot of christians I've known over the course of my life assume if anyone leaves the faith its because they thought there was something better out there they were chasing, but in my own conversations with former believers almost every time they expressed that they didn't see something better, in many cases they infact had stopped believing years prior to their official public deconversion but it took them many years to leave the church despite believing the faith to be misplaced in part specifically because they didn't see anything better out there, didn't see anything to be gained from not at least continuing to act like they believed, and it terrified them to risk alienation from all their christian friends and family and to live with out some sort of religion after having one most if not their entire life. Ultimately they indicated that they reached a point where they acknowledged that they'd been drowning the entire time, they felt they had just deluded themselves to believing they were ever on a boat, and only by abandoning the fantasy that there was a boat that would carry them to shore could they begin to swim some where, regardless of where it led them, and have the hope of getting anywhere alive.
My guess is you would disagree with that sentiment and thats fine, but thats my interpretation of this guys' statement based on other former believers I've spoken with. Still a dark, terrifying statement to make, but I think thats the emotions they genuinely felt and hoped to convey so others could understand how hard it was for them to leave even after they reached a point where they felt the evidence suggested Christianity was false, and could no longer convince themselves otherwise to maintain the aspects of Christianity they valued and appreciated. I think its the same reason scientologists, mormons, muslims, hindu, and former believers of various other main stream religions also stay in their religions even in the face of powerful evidence that their faith has been misplaced, when your entire life and community is built around a belief system, you have every reason to at least keep acting like you believe even if mentally you can not honestly say there isn't significant reason to doubt the religion itself. You really have to have a strong conviction to follow the path to truth no matter where it leads and what it costs you to leave a religion in that situation, even more so if you have a wife and children who you'll be pulling along with you. Maybe you don't agree with his evaluation of the truth of christianity, but personally I at least admire his desire for searching for truth even at the expense of his personal comfort.

Serious questioning of faith was occurring well before they moved to California. When they later moved to California, things continued in this direction.

The surgeon removed ten percent of his liver and fixed the valve. It was supposed to be two or three surgeries but luckily it was only one. He somehow didn’t break any ribs though. He’s in the hospital and will be released tomorrow. The day after his surgery a new doctor came in and looked him dead in the yes and said “You should be dead” and two days later he’s not. Anthony Bauguess the Christian approach is to let a man in the sky judge people for something they cannot help. They discuss gay people in this video and the Bible states being gay is a sin. Why would god create a gay person if he believes it’s a sin? If god truly has a plan for everyone then that wouldn’t make any sense. This is an obvious contradiction. Also if you have a belief that a gay persons lifestyle is a sin, you can “love them” but you will always have this belief in the back of your mind that they are a sinner and what they are doing is wrong, when it is in fact not. There is nothing wrong with being gay, it is not inherently evil, it hurts no one, it affects no one else’s life and those who are gay cannot choose not to be gay. And yet somehow this is inherently wrong. How can you believe something like that? Because a book told you to?

Joking aside, that phrase doesn't occur anywhere in the Bible so I don't think it was supposed to be taken literally. I grew up in a very strict church and for the longest time I thought Christians should reject gays and shun them. Then one day I ended up with gay neighbors. The Bible told me to love my neighbor as myself. I realized it wasn't Christianity that was the paradox. It was my application of it. It doesn't mean I switch to accepting the lifestyle but it did mean that I stop assigning a rating system to all the sin around me and drop the self righteousness. Christian singer Rich Mullins told a story of hitchhiking and being picked up by a man who revealed he was gay. The man said, "Doesn't your God hate me for being gay?". Rich responded, "No more than he hates me for being a liar.". When you understand your sin is just as grievous as everyone else's sin you start to truly understand grace. Rhett was confronted by his flawed application of faith and instead of turning to the truth, he turned away from it and sought answers from the world.

"The church is very white and male and straight." Um, Christianity is the only major religion that is not and historically has not been geographically/culturally limited. Islam is still largely centered in the middle east (Indonesia is the one outlier), Hinduism is still centered in India, Buddhism is still centered in the far east. Christianity started in the middle east in Israel, then it was centered in modern day Turkey, then Rome and north Africa, then western Europe & England, then America, now it's shifting to Asia and Africa. Christianity is the ONLY geographically and culturally diverse world religion.

@@lilys_webb5018 that's doubtful. People that change religious beliefs because of their social pressures rarely do so because someone made a good argument for or against something. Heck, people rarely change beliefs because of argument at all. Instead they usually do it because of emotional conflict with their apparent beliefs and side with emotions.
Here's a question: did they put this much effort into their faith before they came to Christianity in the first place? What did they ask? Was it just an accepted and expected social norm? If so, why shouldn't I see their deconversion as the same thing?
Those of us who came even a little late to the faith and argued and did at least a little research beforehand are very rarely the kind of people that deconvert. Why? Because we're the kind of person who takes up a faith to internalize and make sense of the world we live in and our own qualia. The others? They just want to fit in with society. They just want people to like them. That's a terrible way to base your fundamental beliefs.

And she was an atheist while I was raised up Christian, then about my sophomore year, I lost my faith and went down a very dark path, I was never good at school, always hated it at that time. I started skipping school ALL the time to where I even got arrested for truancy, I became a drug addict, snorting and smoking pills, amphetamines, opiates anything I could get my hands on. Then the summer going into my senior year. I overdosed off opiates and ended up in the hospital, and I'm lucky I didnt lose my life, up until this point I was still an atheist, but I was sitting there in the hospital bed and I prayed and asked god to help me overcome my addiction and get better and if I could get over it that I would regain my faith in god. And I've been a clean Christian, ever since. I ended up going to trade school for the trade that I am currently in, welding. And in the fall I'll be going to college for Engineering. And I'm doing great. Thanks so much Steven, have a great day!

Abigail, unfortunately these lessons are part of life. True faith is strengthened when we experience these things and we are able to step back and objectively learn from them.
When it comes to matters of love, I find it a very slippery slope when we equate Human love and emotion with our faith. We run the risk of losing both.
I'm very glad to read that you gained strength and some insight from this podcast and the experience as a whole. Many do not make it through. At your age I'm sure you are aware of this. I think most would agree if they took the time that you are right on track with your life experiences and that experiences are exactly that. They are things we have experienced. They do not define us not do they define all of our experiences in the future. I'd like to ask that you take some time to see if you can't put the experience where it belongs and perhaps see if a different outlook towards your faith isn't a stronger lesson. One where gratitude in being blessed with the strength to persevere and grow is more the lesson. Take care and enjoy life and your faith equally. With all your heart.

And He lovingly uses what was evil to bring about good, so that pain does not go for nothing.

Also, from personal experience, I will give you this cautionary advice:
It would be better for someone to come stab me to death - than to allow bitterness in my heart.
To die faithfully is to join our Lord having finished the race well. That's the worst someone else can do to me.
Bitterness on the other hand... Nothing in my life has risked my salvation more. Nothing more has pushed me toward rebellion and drove me toward sin despite having lived faithfully for a long time.
When you consider that, who did more harm to who? The person who hurt me? Or me to myself?
All they did was hurt me. I nearly drug myself down to hell.
Thank God for forgiveness. Thank God He is faithful even when I am not faithful. Thank God for the continued opportunity to repent which could have stopped.
Consider that God saved us from ourselves, and that other's harm does not compare to that rescue. May you find peace in and blessing in God.

I totally understand having someone like that as a friend, whom you can constantly witness to with your love for them showing the love of God to them. That's an excellent way to live out your faith!
But I'm very confused that your *best* friend would be someone who can't truly hold you up in your faith and point you towards God. Do you have no Christian brothers whom you can relate to better? Nobody who can pray with you, build you up with Godly encouragement, and run the race with you?
      Paul says:
Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?
      2 Corinthians 6:14 ESV
By you saying an unbeliever is the one you're yoked the closest with, that shows your walk is seriously imbalanced! Why can't you find brothers in the faith to be your cord of 3 which isn't easily broken, so you have a stable walk that will assist you in guiding a lost friend? If you're yoked to 1 other, and they don't walk the same way as you, you're in some trouble. If you're yoked to 2 brothers in the faith you won't be strayed as easily by a weaker connection to a lost soul wandering in a different direction. Your brothers will even be able to help you stay on track while you try to pull that friend towards your path.
I hope you find these words encouraging, brother. Run the race to obtain the victory! The grace of the Lord Jesus be with you.

I wasn't very smart at the time, but i was definitely smart enough to understand how smart this guy was. for weeks and weeks i listened to this guy all the time joining his party, and listening to him just spout endless information on so many subjects and he was very atheist and i had avoided talking about that because he was adamant about converting Christians to atheists. When he eventually asked me directly i told him I was because i knew i shouldn't deny God, so at this point nothing else existed it took about 10 hours of talking over 2 or 3 days and he poked holes in what i said and the answers i gave him and he asked me why i was a christian and i didn't know. I told him something about heaven and he told me that i wasn't a christian, i was just afraid of death. I believed him, he understood me more than i understood myself and i fell away from God. While im not proud of that failure, but I think it did more to lead me to self discovery, and rediscovery of God and Faith than it did the opposite. i really appreciate this video.

Crowder cannot, nor will he not, nor can he afford to understand the deconversion process. I grew up in a very strict Mormon household in Utah. I went to college at a LDS church-owned university, BYU-Idaho. And it was in that setting where over the span of about five years I went through a long and hard process of thinking and researching and being introduced to various arguments and their rebuttals where I eventually became unconvinced of the church's truth claims.
Rhett's story, for me was VERY relatable. The feelings he described were ones that I also had felt. So often he hit the nail on the head. And I would not be surprised if P.R./Damage Control Apologists like Crowder felt threatened by the compelling force of Rhett's story... and that's why he could either not watch the whole thing, or just not take all the facts into consideration in his criticisms. He can't _afford_ to understand.
True, Crowder grew up Catholic. But he's the kind of person to rebel against what he's being taught which would likely prevent him from actually looking into why he believes what he believes. He would just say, "Okay sure" and go and do his own thing. Whereas Rhett was pretty much the opposite. He _actually did_ adhere to what he was indoctrinated into and went _deep_ into theological issues early on. Rhett was _hyped_ about his beliefs. The gave him meaning and energy! It was applied as an _actual worldview!_ Steven did not see the world in the same way. But even though Steven rebelled, whatever indoctrination he did receive still maintained a foothold in his mind.
Usually when people feel like some organization, system or institution isn't working out for them, they tend to question its necessity in their life. When it comes to religion and government, you often can't question its necessity without questioning its veracity. So my guess is that Steven saw what was wrong with Canada, its culture, politics and economics and though various factors and life events became convinced that conservatism was the best outlook and application for a society. And in the U.S., conservatism is closely associated with religiosity and they share some similar values, so he's reincorporated himself generally back into what he was once indoctrinated into.
With Rhett, the organization he was in _was_ working for him! Him and Link gained many beneficial opportunities from being in Campus Crusaders at their college and they excelled in that environment. But it was Rhett's diving into deeper theological, scientific and philosophical issues that caused him to question various ideas. He wanted to learn how his worldview was right. I don't doubt that his experience in L.A. opened him up to a very different perspective on Christianity and may well have been part of what caused him to question if Christianity was true at all. But that's what exposure to other worldviews does to people who have been dogmatic their whole lives.
In North Carolina, Rhett came out of fundamentalism and loosened up his dogmatism. In California, I can only assume that he saw dogmatism in people from different worldviews and realized that the world doesn't revolve around his worldview, but other people believe the world _does_ revolve around theirs.
Rhett cared about truth because that's what he was taught to care about. Steven cared about what he wanted out of life and whatever gave it to him is what he's sided with. He leans on Christianity to account for moral facts in the world, and then proceeds to live his life how he likes. He smokes and swears but that's okay because salvation doesn't depend on how closely you follow the standards of the gospel. It just depends on whether you're a believer or not.

@@ThomasJDavis Just because you smoke or say a bad word on a rare occasion doesnt mean youre going to hell, so im confused on "He smokes and swears but that's okay because salvation doesn't depend on how closely you follow the standards of the gospel. It just depends on whether you're a believer or not." Last I checked, not everyone who smoked went to hell. However, its also not if youre a believer or not. Just because you believe in God doesnt mean youre granted the heaven stairs. You have to accept his rule, understand youre sinful, and restrict yourself of sin as much as possible. And ask for forgiveness if you do. Its not as simple as "Well, Gods real, so im going to heaven." Following the gospel as much as possible is good, but God allowed us to have more freedom in what we can do compared to the Old Testament.

"Sadly enough, my young friends, it is a characteristic of our age that if people want any gods at all, they want them to be gods who do not demand much, comfortable gods and smooth gods who not only don’t rock the boat but don’t even row it, gods who pat us on the head, make us giggle, then tell us to run along and pick marigolds. Talk about man creating God in his own image! Sometimes - and this seems the greatest irony of all - these folks invoke the name of Jesus as one who was this kind of ‘comfortable’ God. Really?"

The driver says," there's room man come on", but the man say, "No god will save me". the water has driven the man the second story of his house when a boat comes up. The driver of the boat says," come on man we have room," and again the man says, "No God will save me". The water has driven the man to the roof of his house when a helicopter comes over and the pilot says, "get in man we have room," and the man replies yet again," no God will save me". The man dies, and when he's at the foot of the throne he asks, "God why did you not save me", and God responds, "What do you mean? I sent you a truck a boat and a helicopter".

Sometimes people think it's ridiculous to not question it but I've had some really tough times, and the only way I got through them was prayer and God's grace. Another of my aunt's became homeless at the same time and we moved in together. My mom had a precancerous tumor in her lower intestine that went unchecked for well over six years because no one would listen to her complaints of stomach pain and by the grace of God they caught it before it completely obstructed her bowel by mere days and the doctor said it was miraculous that it never crossed the precancerous threshold after all this time, all because of a technicality that forced her to switch doctors

The majority of those involved in the science field, don’t believe life was created by God. In order to do science, they have to exclude God from all of their experiments since he doesn’t exist. Despite the majority of the world believing in a creator of some kind, go figure. I love science, I think it’s an amazing process but I also see that the field doesn’t allow God to be a consideration at all and that’s not science. You have to include all possibilities. They’re having to make theories up because they can’t accept God created anything. This is why Christians have a reputation for being “anti-science”. We’re not.

He turned around, looked at them and called down a curse on them in the name of the Lord. Then two bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the boys.” 2 Kings 2:23-25

    • @kiram.3256
      @kiram.3256 4 года назад +6

Though this judgement may at first seem harsh, the group must have included over 50 boys old enough to be out running in a pack and so they constituted something of a physical threat to Elisha. The author of Kings regularly show that contempt toward divinely called prophets is disastrous for God’s people. This translation and others use the term “ small boys, children or young boys”. The Original Hebrew text, refers to young men. This was not a small group of children making fun of a bald man. Rather, it was a large demonstration of young men who assembled for the purpose of mocking a prophet of God. The penalty was clearly justified, for to ridicule Elijah was to ridicule the Lord himself. The seriousness of the crime was indicated by the seriousness of the punishment. The appalling judgment was God’s warning to all who would scorn the prophets of the Lord.

The Bible is a book that is not merely for reading. It is a book for studying so that it can be applied. Otherwise, it is like swallowing food without chewing and then spitting it back out again-no nutritional value is gained by it. Those who say the Bible has errors have their ears closed to the truth.

I was an atheist as long as I had the ability to be “aware”. All the way up to the age of 25. There were many moments that lead me to seeking a spiritual journey, so I hitch-hiked across the country, intentionally leaning towards the Bible Belt. I went from LA, to North Carolina, back to San Francisco. By the time I got to Georgia, so many people and families that I came in contact with prayed over me, and many more along the way said “God bless you.” I finally returned the saying “God bless you, too.” to a lady that offered me a ride when I had another person coming to get me, so I declined. A miraculous series of events lead me to be gobsmacked on my knees and crying when the Lord slapped me across the face and asked, “Do you see it, yet?” After the 2016 Election, fighting my programmed brainwashing and massive depression, I started seeking the truth. Jesus rejuvenated and energized me and made it fully apparent that Jesus is the one true way and Lord. Nobody can ever convince me otherwise, and I’ve been saved for nearly 5 years now. Best thing to ever happen to me.

El Ricardo praise the Lord!! I grew up in the church. I almost envied people that didn’t grow up in the church because they had these amazing, beautiful, and miraculous “found God” moments. For me, “finding God,” when I always knew He was there, was incredibly hard. Fear has been the driving force behind all the decisions I made in life. Yet, I was always taught “fear is not of God.” I knew that something wasn’t right. My pastor talked about Revelations all the time and always drilled into my head we can die at any moment, so do we know where we’re going? I was so afraid of being left behind or going to hell that over the course of 10 years I went forward, several times, during alter calls, to be “saved.” I thought I was ready each time. That this time, it was real, but it never felt real, despite my best efforts. Something just wasn’t right deep within my soul and I didn’t know what it was. Until one day, when I was 26 years old, doing devotions. I was trying to find answers. At this point I was ready to give up, firmly believing that my name was never going to be, was not meant to be, in the Book of Life, no matter what I did. Then I read Romans 3:24 “Being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.” There was a footnote in my study Bible that said “we are prisoners, and the ransom to set us free was Jesus’ blood on the cross. Jesus set us free.” (Paraphrase since I don’t have my Bible at this moment to look it up the exact verbiage.) Reading that footnote hit me in ways I cannot describe. For the first time in my 26 years of attending church and hearing the same stories from many different pastors and I never understood the significance of Jesus’ death on the cross until I read that footnote. I immediately burst into tears. I was sobbing into my Bible and asked the Lord to come into my heart and, this time, I knew it was real. A feeling of joy swept over me like a warm breeze on a cold day and my tears of anguish turned into tears of joy and I couldn’t stop laughing the whole rest of the day. It was the most beautiful and happiest moment I’ve ever experienced in life. I will be saved for 5 years this November.

The “Jesus People” of the 70’s started here in Costa Mesa with Chuck Smith and Calvary Chapel and continues with Greg Laurie of Harvest in Riverside.
