Tekken 3 is the game I use as an example when explaining the lack of content in modern titles. Big roster, MANY modes of gameplay, costumes, the full package.
Despite being "broken" and devoid of patch notes, the earlier Tekken games still kept us invested with many other aspects that sadly aren't as prominent now.
Gon was very... surreal to fight against Or with. It was kind of annoying that Gon and Dr B could appear as Arcade Mode opponents once unlocked, considering how unconventional they were.
I used to do self-imposed challenges on Arcade Mode playthroughs, using only punches or kicks for a match-up. Guess how fun that was going up against either of those two...
What's so amazing about watching older tekken games is just how much agency you have in these matches. Once you are thrown up in the air, its about 2-3 seconds before you're up again and playing. With the screw/bound system and dedicated juggle combos, it can easily take 7-10 times as long before you have to touch the controller again. I really miss that in newer Tekken games. Edit: Man i forgot how Heihachi looks like an actual billionaire in these games. Since T4 he's always had the weird sumo clothes or fighting set, but here he was in his swagger getup. It looks amazing man.
Yeah but u can also die to 2 moves in this game , I would rather get juggled and survive then die to 2 unseeable lows , the only characters that will constantly kill u off one combo in T7 is extremely limited

I will never get over that Jin concept, the attitude, the tattoo, incredibly slight variances to what we got, but oh so damn perfect. I always figure we could have had our cake and ate it, as we could have gotten his stoic karateka attitude in T4 in anyway, this personality just would have complimented the extreme style change with an equally radical personality change.
The game was fun to say the least but in competive sense It was a garbage and fully unbalance.They could take the positive aspects as game modes,big roster e.t.c but gameplay wise hell naaaah only for fun purposes.
If it wasn’t for this game I would have no idea how to play Hwoarang. I still don’t know how to play Hwoarang. But I just know this is where I learned the basics. Dude has like no lie 50+ inputs I can’t be bothered to learn all that I stick to the basics, unoptimal but fun
8:44 Paul into deathfist then running tackle would give a chance for another deathfist while the opponent is rolling, its super easy on huge characters but you can pretty much consistently do it on anyone, it does like 90% damage Another good setup with Heihachi is that you launch opponent, then do df1,2 for juggle and do his unblockable which is homing, if they getup 4 heihachi will auto parry, you cant tech roll, all you can do is just lie down which is difficult to guess, and on huge characters , it is guaranteed while they are lying down.
Gon will forever be one of my favorite Tekken characters 😂 quick story: as I kid I would want to stay up late and play video games my step-dad would do challenges for me that if I could beat him in a fighting game I could stay up for another hour or 2 well Tekken 2 I might have gotten a few wins here and there but 90% of the time I was headed to bed, enter Tekken 3 and a unlocked Gon and I was a GOD! 😂😂😂 I button mashed my way to victory after learning how to fireball and fart and let's just say my stepdad never put Tekken 3 on for the challenge nights after that lmao and also Guilty Gear on the PS2 for some reason I was just naturally good at that game

T3 wasn't as much of a joke as you say. infact i'd argue that a fair bit of the cast was viable, not all of them sure. but considering gon is one of the worst in the game and shirdel managed to get 3rd with him shows how undiscovered T3 really is in the west
I would love these " joke broken characters " to come back in Tekken 8. Even if they're banned from being used in tournaments or ranked matches, it would still be nice to have some in the game.

Man, Shirdel stole the freaking show, he was incredible! I'm glad though that most of the notable characters got some presentation in the tournament, it was nice to see some Pauls even though he's not a top tier character.
i have high doubt Gon will be in a video game again, their appearance here was super random and the character's not really had a lot of relevant things happen with them in the 20+ years since t3
I had discovered an easy gon killing scheme which was doing a single move all the rounds. Jump forward and at the landing kick. Sure I got hit but continously doing that to Gon player seriously demoralizes them and they panic at wtf is going in, so stay in air all the time against gon and land to make a hit then up you go again.
@@jerzyzamieszka400 It would take rather more than that to make Dr B. or Gon work against a strong Jin or Ogre player who's giving it their all, I'd have thought. I know that Shirdel was able to pull it off in this tournament, but I suspect that that's because his opponents knew that he was joshing around (as we say in the north of England), which probably subconsciously led them to not pull out all the stops to beat him. Then again, maybe that's the great strength of these characters - the fact that picking them indicates to your opponent that you're not taking the game remotely seriously, discouraging them from putting too much effort into defeating you. In other words, perhaps the biggest asset of these characters is their sheer troll factor.

active T3 pro ? are these online tournaments ? the salami cup was an invitational for mainly top level T7 players, but i'm sure most of these players would be down to enter more T3 stuff if there was an active tournament series if you are able to share the details ?

It turned out that T7 players from my country wanted to organize T3 tournament and they were testing the connection, framerates, etc. I introduced myself, helped them to configure that and I was invited to this tournament. Golly... I didn't lose even one point in the whole tournament. T3 is that much different from T7. It's like totally different game. I don't think they will be setting up next T3 tournament in the near time. :)
@@jerzyzamieszka400 well then try to get a scene going, i was invited to this tournament through the same means, i mostly play old FG's and shirdel asked me to help out figuring out the netplay. this tournament was run through the PSX emulator and i played a bit with those lads. and got invited but couldn't make it due to moving. i'd love to see more events for T3 and TTT1 but given the kaillera netcode is pretty wack i think people are waiting for some form of rollback on the PSX emulation side of things before kicking things off, if that ever happened and the application got integrated into fightcade i'm sure a scene would grow for T3
@@Shodan130 but ePSXe emulator works perfectly fine for T3 online gaming. The only thing that causes OOS is the sound tho. But we are playing on T3 rip file without cutscenes and music. It weights around 19mb with fully configured emulator.
with yoshi just go into pogo / flea stance and drink some coffee vs gon. Its impossible for him to win vs yoshi. He has one jump attack but hard to land against pogo stance when also jumping.
gon still has counter play to flea in T3, in saying that yoshi still had an easy time against both Dr B and Gon doe due to moves like Db 3 and db1 being really good for hitting grounded or small characters.
@@Shodan130 Yeah but it was still big in favor of yoshi just jump while in pogo and from my experience still very hard for gon to win. With uf2 helicopter you can also escape gon cheese moves almost on the last frame like his while running attacks or his fireball. With quick evade b3+4 you can also evade those at the last frames other chars just cannot. Sad to see no yoshi in that tournament.
Face it: the broken-ass, low poly, unbalanced mess is a better game than the competitive, polished, more balanced bore-fest we ended up with. Because the former has a soul. The latter charges you money for the bowling minigame.

Anyway, there was a reason why he was banned from T3 tournaments back in the day. gon wasn't really that strong, people just didn't know the MU, and until you know the MU gon is proper scary but his flaws are really big keeping him at low tier
As powerful as gon is I don't think he last long in tekken 7.. imo I believe every character has better low attack into combos. Hell he'd probably get tanked in 6. Idk tho...
