Just stayed at the poly 2 weeks ago... check in was a disaster. Check in was at 3pm, arrived around 3:15 and was told room was not ready. After a few more trips to front desk, we just went to the beach area. Finally got a txt at 5:15 our room was ready. Front desk said our bands were ready, got to room and they didnt work. Used disney app to unlock door. We had the farthest room away (1038 in moorea). View of fireworks was amazing but the ferry boat was right next to us, so had to hear it every morning at 7am. Finally got in room, and tv didnt work and one of the toilets wouldnt flush. Plus another hour to get our bags delivered from bell services. We missed all our fast passes that night and they just offered more fast passes for our troubles. For a family of 5 (2 adults, 3 kids), we wont be staying here again.
My home resort. I love it and can't see it not ever being my home resort. I can see them not having a one bedroom as a big con but it's just my husband and I nowadays (kids are off in college) so a studio works fine for us. I love the nearly 2 full bathrooms in the Poly Studios. Really makes a difference in getting ready for the day. Next year we'll be looking to do a small point contract add on for the Poly. I'm really looking forward to it.
I really hope WDW is trying to improve the rushed service. We have been there a couple times with $700 bills, but aggressively being served, and rushed. I hate it. For the last few years, we will tell the staff right at the beginning that we will be here an hour, regardless of how fast you move the plates. I also wish they had better DVC options for large familes.
We are planning on renting points for a two day stay at the Poly... no park tickets...just hanging at the Poly! We love Captain Hooks ... And yes, once had a negative experience at O’Hanas but we are trying again... the macadamia nut pancakes are to die for at Kona Kafe
We stayed here over the summer; awful customer service. Requested mousekeeping fully aware that we were requesting additional services not included with dvc but listed for a fee, and came home to a dirty room after a super long day at the parks. They didn’t do anything bc they didn’t know if we were going to pay or not. Complete and shameful breakdown of communication. The front desk did try to remedy the situation but even still this left a bad taste in my mouth. Ohana feast room service is worth it. Dole whip with rum, fantastic. Proximity to TTC was wonderful. Staff was just okay, not overly friendly unlike the true aloha spirit we find when we visit Hawai’i, and they are not shy about asking for tip which was distasteful. Rooms weren’t the cleanest. Pool was crowded. Most authentic part of the stay was the fire thrower as part of the ceremony on the lawn. Glad we did this but next time we will stick with beach club, our favorite
Good discussion. Everybody was correct except for Corey. The biggest negative is only studios and the absurd costing bungalows. Outside if that it is an amazing resort.
A better way to line the guest up for the dinner show would be nice. Every evening we had to weave through hundreds of people because of where they lined them up.
Fiasco is right about the food at Ohanas. Somebody else's leftovers. And frozen food microwaved at that. They can never get the meat on the skewers right either overcooked or undercooked. You would think after all these years they would have it down to an art. Anything but. I won't even start on the service as everyone has their own unhappy story. But and this is a big but it wasn't always like this, years ago the food was wonderful tasty and fresh and the service was perfection. That waiter must have been eyeing us and the management must have given them spit polish training. No course was served until the previous one was finished and the table was cleared, the timing was uncanny. When I asked for another portion of the desert I got another heaping bowl of the glorious bread pudding. It seems that everything now is served on the table at once. This now has happened to me twice. Won't be going back. I will give you the breakfast at Kona. This has to be one of the best breakfasts on property. And Captain Cooks is everything Pete says it is. They remember your name. How cool is that? And get the Dole Whip with the rum. Sticker shock expensive(hey it's the Poly!) but really heaven. Love love love the Poly.
Agree with most of the pros and cons. Completely agree with Pete that copper Creek cabins blow Poly bungalows out of the water. We've stayed once at bungalows and twice at the cabins. The view at the bungalows is amazing. The plunge pool on a hot day is fantastic. But the boat horns... They ruin everything. They really do. Now, the cabins are incredible. And if you stay at a low number cabin, you can see the magic kingdom fireworks too. And they pipe in the music! We stayed 4 nights in late Sept and watched the fireworks every night. Love the hot tub but would prefer a pool. Hot water on a hot day is not my thing.
My nit-picky con is that is a little bit of a walk to the Long House from the DVC rooms. Only comes into play if the weather is bad and you want to get over to eat or shop. Otherwise, watching fireworks from my room and seeing the castle from the pool is SO worth it! Plus the short walk to the transportation center was great.
While no one bedrooms or two bedrooms outside of the bungalows, they are the only DVC with connecting studios. This was a huge pro to us. If you compare the point charts to VGF, you can get connecting studios at Poly for the same amount points as a 1 bedroom at VGF...and over 100 points cheaper on our week when compared to a VGF 2-bedroom. If you’re not using the kitchen or laundry, connecting studios are perfect.
I really enjoyed staying at the Poly last year in the concierge bldg. The good things were the food in the lounge was excellent. Cannot say enough to good things about it and the view of Seven Seas Lagoon and being able to walk outta the lounge and watch the fire works was awesome. However, I thought that the Poly could use renovations in the guest rooms. It looked like they were getting old and dated. The other problem I had was my Magic Band wouldn’t open my door and I had to use my app more often than not to open my room door
As a DVC owner at Poly, it is difficult that there are not two-bedroom units available. It is an absolutely fantastic resort, with that being said. I hope in the future they would consider adding a couple of additional buildings that would have larger units. The bungalow is just such a ridiculous point ask that most people will never get to experience it....
Totally agree with Fiasco. Ohana and Kona are two of the worst places on property. Ohana meats are consistently overcooked and low quality, and the vegetables and dumplings taste frozen to me. Kona, I will never go back.
Were staying at the Polynesian in March and I cannot freaking wait lol. All our Disney trips end with us leaving from the Polynesian but we've never stayed there. My dear is now I won't want to stay anywhere else.
Never stayed at the Poly, but visit it often etc. My hesitation on staying there is the chaos of trying to catch the monorail or boats at the end of the night from the MK. Love the atmosphere there!
Love, love the boat sounds. :) The only thing I consistently disagree with, is the fact that Poly has a great quick service. The layout is terrible (ordering, etc). And the food is good, but not phenomenal, to me. But I still like the Poly, but do agree with the issue of only studios.
Can Disney raise the points for the studio? We purchased at Beach Club in 2002 and one of the selling points was that the points required for a certain room type during a season would never go up. I don't know if the other resorts have this rule.
The sit-down dining at the Poly is awful. I can't believe folks would argue this. 'Ohana was terrible, the cafeteria is worse than a high school cafeteria and the best thing about the Kona is the coffee. My kids asked to not have to eat at the 'Ohana or Captain Cook's ever again and I heartily agreed.
Dis Unpugged, Ever since the Poly opened it's alway's been first class. Eating in the open lobby. If you had taken an Hawaiian vacation in the 60's/70's when the Polynesian was being planned. This kind of open lobby " eating" experience was just about in all the hotels fronting the beach. Bungalow's are ugly need to be replaced with a restaurant on the water. Thank's for your time , Cheers, Chris Perry.
Poly is my home and the lack of 1 bedrooms never bothered me until I stayed at Kidani Village and then Beach Club, both in a 1 bedroom. Not sure I can go back
1 issue not mentioned is one that I had a lot of complaints about as a CM: If you're in the bungalows near the TTC you hear boats all night and it's tough to get to sleep.
Jamie, when you were naming DVC with separate chech-in from the hotel portion, you forgot about Bay Lake Tower. They have their own dedicated check- in right in the tower lobby. The CMs there are excellent. They have helped us tremendously on more than one occasion. We own at BLT as our second resort. If I could change anything about it, it would be add a quiet pool. The main pool is chaos. It also could use its own shop. Having to go all the way over to the CR to grab something quick to eat that's not pool bar food is inconvenient, and the CR shop carries no DVC merchandise. That feels unwelcoming.
We own at poly and would not want to see studio point increase because no one wants bungalow. We have 135 points and could do 8 nights there in fall. Would not want to shorten our trip because of point increase
Just doesn't live up to the hype for us. Long walk to the lobby in the elements, monorail broken the whole time we were there, took 45 minutes and 3 trips to the lobby to fix magic bands, dirtiest bathroom I've had at any DVC resort in 19 years, feels like the 1970's, and more. There are rooms in Tokalau that have a nice view of fireworks/castle with standard view. Corey, Ohana and Kona are both overreated. Also, Bay Lake and Kidani have their own check-in areas.
The monorail has to be considered a con, at least until Disney gets some competent leadership. I remember really enjoying the monorail but that was before it started breaking down every month or two. About which they have done absolutely nothing. Everyone on the DIS seems to think it smells in there too.
Ohana is are home resort, it's just okay, the cast members are not the friendliest. Also the resort does not have a fitness center! A deal breaker for us
I had a negative experience at Ohana in August. My table faced the fireworks. Beautiful scenery but close to closing time. The food they brought out was old and stale I was disgusted. I've eaten here lots of times but never that late.I had a table full of first time visitors with me and I had been bragging on this dinner for months and the expressions on their faces said it all. I was so embarrassed. Please don't feed people stale food. That's not Cool
I love his honest opinions! Dinner at Ohana is terrible. I’ve had an ok breakfast there but I would not spend my money on dinner when there are better options outside the resort.
@@SunshineMichelle Hi. The original longhouses were built in 71. One was added along with the backstage building in 78. Two more were built in 85. They are also 50 sq ft larger.
You guys take forever to make a point... Can't we just make a point and move on? You essentially only talked about restaurants and the room size for 22 minutes! We stayed at the Poly earlier this year. We thought the Kona Cafe was way way overpriced and the food pretty lousy. The Ramen was super expensive and it was literally the worst Ramen we have ever eaten. Service was also painfully slow

Great show...we LOVE the Polynesian.
Another great show. Love the advice. Love this series!!
Good discussion. Everybody was correct except for Corey. The biggest negative is only studios and the absurd costing bungalows. Outside if that it is an amazing resort.
I love the Polynesian Resort! My only con is the Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show. It NEEDS an update!

I hate the food at the Poly - there were service problems at both table service restaurants. I used to love 'Ohana but not anymore.
The 'Ohana really sucks now and the food at the cafeteria is horrendous.

Biggest pro - you can fit a crib in the smaller bathroom. Instant private nursery. Such a life saver!
🤣🤣🤣🤣
That’s what we did
The worst rushed service on property is Cinderalla’s Royal Table. They just need to book or charge accordingly
Am I the only one that liked the breakfast at Ohana? Went there last February for breakfast and I thought it was great.

You are it 💥

one big issue I have is sleeping in a room near the luau. Its way too noisy between 9-10pm. I had to request a room change last trip.
The Riviera deluxe studio will have the split bathrooms also, I think.
Chris Hollnagel correct. I did the DVC tour a few weeks ago and they showed it to us.

Bay lake has there own too and I love it
Or Poly may just build/add-on another building to fill in the gap where their missing. Just as Grand Floridian added a building for Villas.
