Hope you guys enjoy. Already so many things I feel I need to explain but the main one, NO THAT IS NOT CHEESE ON MY CURRY 😂 never in my wildest dream would I do that! As I said in the disclaimer here is a video that NEVER fails to make me laugh, ruclips.net/video/UgIfcmDI9K4/видео.html don't know why but it just really tickles me
Grackle hey grace please check ur insta dms! Much love💙
Cheese on a naan is a game changer, though.
Tammy Earrye I agree and don’t knock a chicken chasni pizza until you’ve tried it (allergies permitting) my bf made me try it...it was delicious.
The portions are much bigger for small packs here, because it's a law to list something that a consumer is likely to finish in one sitting as a serving, so a big box of cereal has a much smaller serving than a little tub 🙂
I’ve never had curry. I don’t think it’s as popular here in the US as in other countries, at least not here in the south.
I love how nobody in the family gives two shits about Grace recording. Just keeping on banging those cutlery drawers. Good for them.
Lol
I love that they do this 😂
I like that because it makes me feel like I’m there, rather than a quite background that makes me feel like I’m watching a video. :)
I don’t mind, she’s living her life, they interact with her too.
Friis Torben Tappert it honestly makes hapoy that they aren’t fussed by it
There's been a push in America for serving/portion sizes to more accurately reflect what people actually eat. It's regarded as deceptive for companies to claim low calorie counts for extremely small portion sizes.
Amanda Mullins this needs to be higher up
Interesting point, didn’t think of it that way. Bit of a catch 22 though....especially if it’s individual portions, means the person will eat a larger portion = more calories
gnislia on the other hand, people don't actually pay that much attention to how much they actually eat so a serving size/calorie count that doesn't factor in that people eat the entirety of a bag of potato chips or two slices of bread or that require you to do massive amounts of math to figure out how many calories you are eating is not actually helping people eat less.
Totally agree. Serving sizes dont influence how much people eat. But reflecting the content values of a realistic portion is so important is making informed choices. UK should up their portion sizes on containers if people are going to realise how much their eating!
Suse B exactly!

Companies: “It’s only 50 calories!”
(Serving size, 1 chip)
Lmao yeah
I absolutely love how the EU doesn't really bother with this, it's just straight up "this is how many calories are in 100g/ml/whatever, do the math bitch".
And Australia has both
Edit: I meant to say we have this too, not only this.
J. Kaimori we have serving sizes here lol
@@sgtruru but we have those too. Doing the math on percentages is way easier than doing it on serving size if you eat anything different to the recommended size.
Haha! Exactly! I’m living in Ireland and I remember the first time I visited the US, the size of the food scared me! The European food labelling is stricter than the US. The Quest bar I eat has 17 more calories over here than in the US even though it’s the same weight with the same ingredients. The rules around labelling a food ‘zero calorie’ are stricter here too.
@@j.kaimori3848 the checkout literally made a sketch about serving sizes Australia what are you on about?
Grace: the UK serving size is 75g and the American serving size is 100g for dry rice
Me: wow a 25g difference
Grace: THATS 15g
@Luke yeet 25 :)
Luke yeet uh no it's 25
That is 25g
25.
15g would equal 90g not 100g. Its 25g.

That just proves the existence of God and gives credence to the idea of fatalism. I've been looking for such evidence. Thank you!

I adore how sometimes when you’re in the kitchen filming your family just goes about their business. It’s really sweet, idk why it just warms my cold black heart
"Serving size" and "portion size" is nothing more than marketing. Its simply just a measure of what the nutritional information is based off of. There is no standard or anything, companies are *required* to put the nutritional information on the packaging and consequently, when they are forced to give you more information, they manipulate it to try to make everything seem more healthy than it is.
Exactly. They're pretty much just there for decoration. Not for actual references
I think she thought thats the serving size they recommended which is not true it is just to measure nutrition as you said
@Ranch DuBoisShe's an idiot for sure
Well said. So many Americans don't even understand that concept
Nalanzazu You nailed it! The weights can also be in different formats to each other adding to the confusion. Proving your point 👍
Another interesting point, I feel like they changed serving sizes while I was growing up around the Obama era. We used to have the smaller more UK style portion sizes on packaged products (fast food/service food is a different story) but they wanted a more realistic representation of what people “actually eat”. The small portion sizes used to be a joke because most people don’t tuck into one cookie or 10 chips. They also redid nutrition labels here to include clearer information and things like “added sugars” in a product.
Serving sizes have been increasing since the 90s (maybe some could argue even earlier, but I'm a 90s kid so that's all I know) in portion size- especially when it comes to fast food. However, on the same respect, actual sizes of things have been decreasing over the years. For example, Chips Ahoy cookies and Nilla Wafers. You used to get a cookie that was easily the diameter of oh I don't know.... maybe about 3 inches? 2 inches? Now they're barely the diameter of a golf ball (maybe an inch and a half??) or smaller!!! I could give many more examples of things such as ice cream tub sizes or drink bottle/can sizes or the amount of things you get in a similar sized bag anymore..... so also I think in that respect that's why the serving sizes for SOME items have been going up- you HAVE to eat MORE of the product nowadays to keep up with how much you had to eat back then. For example, with the cookies, now it says maybe 5 or 6 are a serving size but back then, maybe it said 2 or 3.... Well yeah because they were bigger. But on the flip side, as you've mentioned, I definitely remember when a child's size drink at say, McDonalds today is the same size as what a Small would have been back in the 90s. They didn't even HAVE today's "large".... today's large would be like their SUPERSIZE which no one EVER got. The 90s large would be like today's small or even maybe medium.
Yes I remember when McDonald's large sized drinks became their mediums and the fries sizes went up - about 2008??
@@valaeshamiller2014 I remember this too
UK serving sizes have been going down recently, they were much bigger in the 90s. so that is why the gap is widening.
With Oreos, I think they did the opposite. It used to be 3 cookies, now it's 2, but now the calories are more for 2 compared to the calories for 3 back then, if that makes sense. It's like they altered the nutritional contents of the food to keep the calories and whatnot the same while making the serving size smaller.
Here in the United States, back when Michelle Obama was the First Lady in the United States, she championed nutrition issues and part of it was getting companies to make the serving sizes realistic. Because calling something a "serving size" is misleading, especially on things like individually wrapped muffins or cookies that are listed as two servings for one cookie and things like that. Some things did change but not everything.
So happy she didn't win
I remember when America McDonald's sized everything up and suddenly large drinks were medium and the new large was that massive jug
That's one thing that blew my mind when going to Maccas in the states! No lie, an American small drink size at Maccas is a New Zealand large. When I seen the large drink sizes in America it made me laugh.. they look so huge to me. Americans must come to NZ and think wft is this when they get their orders??! Especially at places like KFC. The KFC regular drinks are teeny tiny lolz 😂
American's must feel so cheated!
Did they happen in response to them having to get rid of supersize?
I like that if you order a happy meal it automatically comes with a 1/2 portion fries, apples and a milk now... but they still give you the option to change it to no apples, full size fry, and a soda 😫
If they didn’t give the option I think more kids would benefit from eating the healthier meal... no idea why it’s an option to add back in all the junk
KayGee no this woman is probably talking about from a really long time ago. I’m 21 and have known the larges to always be that size. The only reason we got rid of the supersize (which was even bigger) is because of the documentary supersize me about a guy who lived off of McDonald’s for like a while or something and it really messed up his health (which shocked doctors somehow? Like doctors at this time honestly thought eating McDonald’s every day for a long time wouldn’t have any negative affects on his body?) and the name supersize became associated with that bad publicity so they got rid of it
Sam Waymire super size was gone before he did that.
in germany we always have per 100g or per 100ml as well as the serving size, for me that's the only reasonable way to show calorie content, since you get a comparisaon in makros and kcal, nobody needs an additional serving size since you'll need math anyway
Louis an_alian i‘m german too and it always baffles me how these people manage because it’s so much easier to calculate if you have the calories per 100g or 100ml (ich überlege grade warum ich auf englisch geantwortet habe, obwohl du auch deutsch bist😂)
we have the same in Italy and it's way nicer to figure out how much you had!
we have calories per 100g in the uk too : )
Same in Austria too

Grace is literally so thoughtful for everyone. Thanks for putting the trigger warning on!!!! Most people don’t do that!!!
Trigger warnings are ridiculous. Your pretty silly to thank something like that. Maybe if blokes weren't so pansy they wouldn't be triggered by silly thing's. Js
It's so unhelpful, inappropriate and childish to expect the world to tip-toe around you by offering trigger warnings. Your feelings are your responsibility. Learn how to handle them and become less fragile. That will benefit you far more than trigger warnings.
Sabastian Weagley
why are you so bothered about it? it’s not that big a deal, ignore it if it’s not for you.
Natalie Butler
It’s really not childish, as there are some things that can actually trigger a person. Plus, this commenter never demanded that people put a trigger warning, they simply thanked the youtuber for doing so. It’s YOU who’s being childish about this, ignore it if it’s not for you, simple.

"Serving size" isn't meant to be taken literally - it's a guide to let you refer to the nutrition information to know what you are eating.
Erik Hughes ,..it’s mostly a convenient way to ‘do the math’ ...and the UK and US use different units
Thank you👍🏼 I was wondering if anyone was going to mention that.
@@SearchIndex
Unless I'm mistaken they both use grams, which is frustrating for the US because we don't use grams for anything else in our daily lives. The only difference is beverages, the UK uses milliliters while the US uses ounces.
Well, a lot of products in the US just show calories for serving sizes, but here in Europe, they have to have calories per 100 grams on food items. So if you are comparing two packages of cookies in the US, you have to do the math to find out which one contains fewer calories, because the serving sizes are never the same. But in Europe, it's easier to compare.
I obsessed over the serving size with my eating disorder
I love how natural your videos are. Theres no effort to act perfect your so laid back and i love that about your videos!!!
When I moved, many years ago, from Scotland to N. America, one of the first things that struck me was how BIG everything was, including the people.
I don’t mean that people in N. America were fat, because most weren’t back then, but the vast majority were certainly taller and more sturdy than their British counterparts, and their lifestyle was certainly more active, and it still is.
I strongly suspect that is why portions were/are larger, as larger people generally require more food, especially when one considers the more active lifestyle.
That said, I’ve never seen anyone eat anything less than a 500ml Ben & Jerry’s!
Most people don’t pay ANY attention to what containers say about ‘suggested serving size.’ Some people will barely nibble, while others eat a humongous amount.
I don’t eat fast food or junk food, but I have, on occasion, bought a cup of mint tea from McDonalds, and I’ve watched people buy two or three LARGE hamburgers just for themselves, as well as supersized fries and a humongous cola. What interests me is that not everyone who eats large amounts is overweight. Some people are, of course, but others are positively skinny....
I should hate to see their arteries though!😱
Love and All Good Things,
Jesse.🌹
Sorry it was a lot and my phone was gonna die sorry
I am from the US and I don’t know anyone that actually only eats a serving size as recommended on packaging. That bag of chips (crisps) would of been gone in one setting! LOL

LMAO AT YOUR MOM HOLDING UP THE CARROTS! IT SENT ME-
grace! do an asian proportion one! I’m from singapore and everytime i travel to UK I feel like every meal is like 2 portions for me and we end up having to share
Rachel P I can’t comment on the US pricing as I’ve never been there but I consider European prices to be quite hefty as it is but I guess it’s justified with the portion? so yes all the more i’ll be inclined to takeaway the unfinished food for the next meal 😅 I’d imagine you’d go hungry in Asia if you’re expecting large portions but since the dishes are heavy on the carbs (rice, noodles) maybe it might not be so bad? but you’ll love our prices! Never appreciated how cheap our food was (talking local fare not fine dining restaurants ) until I travelled to europe
Oh yes I can’t wait to watch this. I am such a foodie and I love watching Grace so much! X
I do believe "portion size" is given so that there is a standard size from which to figure out your calories and other macros to apply to your personal diet. Not that you actually eat only that much.
Suzanne Stauffer But the serving sizes in USA aren’t standardized, so manufacturers come up with laughably tiny serving sizes to make products appear artificially healthy. In Europe, they have to give the nutrition info per 100g.
@@tookitogo I think that was Michelle Obama's issue with it; that "serving" size should be a realistic serving. Look at the cereal box. The front picture is at least three servings in that bowl yet the nutrition info says a serving is 3/4 cup. Iced cream, who eats a half cup of iced cream except someone dieting. Everyone talks smack about fast food restaurants but at least their portion sizes on the calorie counts are realistic (If not too large) so at least you know what you are stuffing in your face.
Suzanne Stauffer Totally agree. The most egregious example of an unrealistic serving size that I’ve ever found is on Pam cooking spray: it was (maybe still is? I haven’t looked in a while) marketed as “fat free” despite consisting of >99% oil. How? Because the FDA says that a food can be advertised as fat free if a serving contains less than 0.5g of fat. So Pam defines a “serving” as a 1/2 second spritz. So literally, it’s fat free by virtue of simply not using any... 🤦♀️
Antonio Tejada
As someone who eats serving sizes, I literally just eat a lot more different foods
Well sure you do if its the standard size from which to figure out your calories . If you don't monitor your calories that's different .

Let’s just appreciate how grace put a little trigger warning. As somebody who has previous suffered from an eating disorders it’s little things like that which are a huge help. 🥰🥰
Where I think the main difference lies is the portion sizes in restaurants - significantly larger in the US compared to the UK.
(from what I know) A lot of American restaurants aim to FEED you and give you extra to take out, whereas Restaurants in the UK tend to lean more towards giving you an experience, food servers tend to be paid more, but tips aren't such a big deal. With British restaurants, especially high-end ones, It focuses a lot on the seasonality of the food and the flavour, balance of texture and commodities and garnishes. American ones seem to be more about making sure you leave full with extra to take home. My conclusion; America, you pay for food , UK, you pay for a little of everything for experience. Any different opinions?
Recently, I'm pretty sure everywhere in the US they may new regulations that serving sizes have to be practical. They also said that the calories' font needs to be bigger than the rest
Nope, please in all due respect only in our major cities with affluent folks that tend to allow for more socialism (micromanagement. Like, maybe New York City, LA, Chicago might impose such food restriction but not small, mainstream cities!! I live in NC! :-) Don't mess with our foods especially, BBQ!!
Tanya Bjorling Packaging and serving size is determined by the FDA which is a Federal, not a state, county or city agency. Perhaps you are thinking of something like the soda tax which is more regional.
@@tanyabjorling5822 yeah and I meant the food would stay the same. They just couldn't label a bag of chips as 2 servings when it's clearly meant to be eaten in one sitting by one person. Like you can't label a can of soup as 2 servings or a granola bar as 2 servings
I think, as you said in the video, the differences really show in fast food; I once saw a video where a medium drink in the USA was a large in Japan. Bit crazy if you think about it!
Marit H a small Coke in the cinema is the same size as a large coke from McDonald’s
It’s crazy the range just from chain to chain in the us. A McDonald large drink is a Wendy’s medium! Some places have such big large drinks it’s insane, like how can someone drink that before it goes flat or gets watered down??
The Japanese are generally of a smaller frame than Americans. But I wonder what the serving size of rice is in Japan being that it is more of a staple food there.
I'm still trying to figure out why Americans go to a restaurant with a self-serve soda fountain and free refills and STILL pay an upcharge for the hyooge-honkin' 48 ounce beverage cup.
@@DeltaEchoGolf That’s still the case in the UK. A McDonalds Medium in the USA was literally the size of a large drink in the UK
So what I've learned from these two videos is that the Brits have evolved to derive their nutrient from tea.
Good for them.
All of our serving sizes in America also range by the brand and ingredients in the product so to compare, I would do an exact brand to brand match to see if there is any difference there. Nonetheless, I enjoyed the video ✨
even in a brand, the picture is the same but ingredients are different. Some things are just not allowed to be added to food in the UK.

whats not surprising is that most people dont read the whole nutrition label, and yet people like amanda mullins comment they should switch to the portion sizes people eat
you cant hold the company accountable for your own mistakes. they tell you on bottles that the whole thing is 2 or 3 portions but you drink it all anyways
its the same as parents blaming companies for violent video games when you clearly bought it for your 8 year old child and let them play it
* a portion size is just informing you how much is in that amount. you have the freedom to eat as much as you like or dont

As far as restaurants go, most Americans, including myself, never eat all of what's on the plate and take the rest home as leftovers for lunch the next day. I don't see our bottles or packages being larger as a bad thing. I can get one bottle of something and share it with my kid
Me too! I do that for everything. You go out to a restaurant for dinner and you get tomorrow's lunch included as leftovers! My sister laughs at me, but I save money.
@@luv2skat There's a family style italian restaurant we go to. My kid and I will each other something different, and you get soup, salad, and bread with the meal. After the soup, salad, and bread, we're always full. So we take the main dishes to go, and they're big servings enough for 2 more meals. That's 3 meals for 2, for $30. Hard to beat that price.

In the u.s. serving size it's used mostly to measure calorie and nutrition. Many companies will manipulate the serving size to have favorable caloric and nutrition no numbers. For instance if they want to say that it's a hundred calories per serving, still say that it's three servings per bag of chips. Even though most people will take the whole bag of chips.
thankyou for the warning grack! very thoughtful and considerate of u
Totally agree that it’s so much better to listen to our bodies. Quite a contrast between the two. Wonder how other countries compare?
Panera bread is my fave! Fell in love with it when I was in LA!
The thing is in the U.S. a serving side is the amount suggested by the manufacturer to try and keep the item within the recommended daily calorie consumption. If you look at some of the amount in the package that is based on the suggested serving size you can easily see that the package may have multiple servings, while in reality most people will consume the entire package. This particularly true with confections and snacks, which are usually more calorie dense because of cats, sugar and other carbohydrates.
I’m still trying to figure out how the Dr Pepper in America is only 10ml more, yet 84 calories more?!!!
Sugar, American stuff is sweeter
UK one has approx 43g of cane sugar per 600ml, US one has 64g of high fructose corn syrup - cane sugar and corn syrup have the same amount of calories. So that's a 74 calorie difference, for the exact same amount of Dr Pepper.
@@yvettepiercy4487 Sugar? I wish. Here it's all high fructose corn syrup, which is worse (not only in taste, but worse for your body) than cane sugar. I find it really ironic that "real sugar" sodas are becoming a popular thing here. This might be the biggest bandwagon in the soda industry since the discovery of Aspartame. Next thing you know, they'll be putting cocaine back in Coca Cola :D
@@VolcanoEarth this is why I wouldn't cope with American stuff 🤣 I find enough here with normal sugar too sweet.
@@VolcanoEarth Here's hoping.
Very interesting, I didn't realize until I looked it up that the "regular" versions of Dr. Pepper, Sprite, and Fanta in the UK have sugar blended with artificial sweeteners to cut the carbs. In the US all of our regular sodas are sweetened solely with corn syrup and then there's a diet version with aspartame or sucralose.
US govt subsidizes mega corn crops, and UK doesn’t ...
The history of growing cane sugar had a heavy impact on the economic history of various states and countries impacting world domination and regarding land use and mega plantation farming vs ‘40 acres and a mule’ hobby farming and import export
High fructose corn syrup instead of cane sugar means high fructose corn syrup is in everything
in UK corn on the cob is considered ‘pig food’ ...whereas in the US it is a common daily food

I don’t think many people in America eat according to the suggested serving sizes. Also, a lot of the foods have empty calories (even the foods that pretend to be healthy), so high in sugar and sodium and not much nutritional value, which means you are left pretty hungry if you just eat the suggested serving size. Anyway, this was an interesting topic for a video. Thank you for sharing this!
tbh i love the restaurant portion sizes in America bc I always have enough to take leftovers home, it's like 2 meals in 1
So true when I couldn't finish the breakfast at denis diner in sanfransico they put in containers for us i love how sweet Americans are to British people
your videos always make my days better 🥺🥺❤️
Here in the US, we also have ingredients in our foods that are illegal to put in foods in Europe. We have steroids, artificial EVERYTHING, hormones and gmo's. In addition to the larger portion sizes, these are some reasons we have such a high obesity rate. 🤷♀️
@A J Of course! But those steroids and growth hormones definitely don't help, either. I would also argue that dieting has not caused an obesity epidemic.
It's true. And if you want to buy a product without all he garbage in it, you'll pay out the wazoo for it
@A J optimal set point weight. Fat logic rubbish. Should be ashamed of yourself.
blue diamond almonds are such american airport food, you made a good choice for this video
Grace: I hate drinking cereal milk it just feels like it’s my saliva 🤣
Me: I will never look at cereal milk the same 😭😅
It's tricky to compare the single serving of box cereal to the to go cups. For some reason the to go cups give you more (42g) versus a typical serving of fruit loops from a box which would run you around your standard cereal serving of 29g. I wonder if they do this because they discovered most people eat a serving and a half and were worried that people would get the single serving cup and go "that's all?"
Oooh interested to see the difference between the UK one you did!!! (oh lol, obviously thought the same as Chloe)
I feel like it’s more of a marketing thing than actual serving size. Here in America, “serving sizes” are labeled for what you’re actually likely to eat. For example, the bread I just ate was 45 cal a slice but on the package it says the serving size is 2 slices and is 90 cals. Because most people are going to eat two slices. But I feel like if someone were to see the labels in a store you would more likely be able to buy it if the label said 45 cals than 90 just because it sounds like less initially and then you’re more likely to eat more and then buy more. So maybe that’s why the UK has smaller servings sizes. Idk if this makes sense
shooketh Yh but the point is that no body eats that much in the U.K.
multifandom _blink I mean what I saw in the video is pretty realistic for a normal diet. For example, the almond milk; America’s serving size was one cup, UK’s was less than half of a cup. I mean if I wanted to drink almond milk, I wouldn’t fill an 8oz cup less than half way and feel satisfied but if you do then I guess to each their own
shooketh well Yh we mostly fill half way and feel satisfied here. Basically long story short we don’t eat as much
I don't think 100 ml is the serving size. I think UK tends to standardize to 100 g and 100 ml often
100ml is 85g :)
I found your videos today and seen a bunch. Love them. Keep going!
the uk portion size video was the first video of yours i watched so this is wild
Loved the video!!! Will also say that in the US, Trenta is one of those “unofficial” sizes and only for cold drinks like iced tea or iced coffee. Lord I can’t imagine a trenta latte! Not all stores have them either like the Starbucks in grocery stores usually don’t. Can’t wait for the next video, thank you for making such enjoyable and interesting content!!
Mae McBride ohh thanks for the head up!
where the heck did you get that rice? all the rice in my house (jasmine, extra long grain, short grain, and brown) are all about 45 grams (1/4 cup) serving sizes
Was never grossed out with the milk at the end of cereal until Grace brought to my attention that i was drinking saliva
Yess!! New video from my favorite RUclipsr 💜💜💜💜
Hi there! Loved watching your video. As a US citizen, I definitely think that the larger food portions and “serving sizes” here have led to the obesity epidemic the US faces and the reason there is a problem with child obesity. I admire the English culture for setting a “healthier” portion size. You’re right, 5 extra grams here and there add up. 36g of extra food ADDS UP! Thank you for sharing your curiosity and experimentation with US vs UK serving sizes! :) Arizona, USA :)
I watched this being like “wow that’s a big difference! I think the US needs to tone it down a bit :0” but I was also eating an entire bag of m&ms :/
Soooo glad you tried teddy grahams! My favorite snack in my school lunchbox growing up
omg you said "teddy gray-ums" love your vids grace xx
Lol that's how we pronounce Graham /Graham's in the UK. How do you pronounce it?
Like gram as in gram cracker
Clare Watt yeah like “teddy gram”
@@harmonyhope1709 kind of like how you would pronounce a gram when you're weighing something
@@abbyoldnettle841 oh really, lol. That's so funny. The difference. Maybe Grace's next video should be comparing US and UK pronunciations 🤔💕
you are very lucky in that because of your metabolism, you can eat whatever you want and not gain weight! watching every bite you take is a way of life for some of us!
