hi Cynthia you are sooo good at playing the ukulele one of your videos taught me how to play happy birthday for my sisters birthday Thanks for the videos!!!!!!
Hi, Cynthia, thank you for another great video. My question is about which tuner app is reliable. I used Pano Tuner and Pro tuner APPs on my phone to tune my Ukulele and the results are so different between them.
Really enjoy your videos, would love to join in but as a non musical 70+ year old think I have left it a bit late!....I see different Ukeles, what is yours...(Concert, Tenor etc)??Please Keep the vids coming 👍👍🤓
Cynthia, this seems quite intuitive yet in reality the difficult thing is to figure out with some tuners the amount of tenseness of strings, like what the numbers near notes actually mean - G4 vs G3, C2 vs C3 C4 etc. because it seems that the suggested note might feel too loose in terms tension or not possible to find as the tuner does not show it or string pops etc. Can you make a video on that topic?
Cynthia I was told that after you put a new set of strings on to kinda pull on each string up and down till you feel them getting warm and this would help expedite the stretching process and keep you in tune. Can you elaborate or have you heard this?
Cynthia, I think I say a video where you made a cigar box uke, and had trouble with the intonation. I’ve made one, and I can’t get it right. Did you ever sort it out, and do you have any advice? Thanks, Aaron
I'm already very familiar with the ukulele, but I'd like to try friction pegs instead of geared tuners. Do the pegs rotate in the same directions as geared tuners?
Hello! I recently got a ukulele for my birthday and as a musician I want to know what type of strings to buy. My strings do not stay in tune while I'm playing at all and they never truly have the right pitch. Any recommendations would be very helpful! Thank you
Darn. No matter what I'm doing, I keep landing on D, which isn't even supposed to be one in the G, C, E, A! Can't get it to cooperate. What am I doing wrong?
I'm guessing your second string is landing on D? If so; keep loosening your tuner (the peg you tune your ukulele with not the electronic device you bought to help you tune your ukulele) because your C string is too tight.
Cynthia I planning to buy one ukulele but first I will like to ask you which Ukulele brand you recommend me to begin. I will like somthing not expensive, but I dont want bad sound becouse i choosed something cheap. Some thing that be reasonable price for a good cuality. Please Tnank you so much. You are awesome.
I was wondering if you could help me understand, I've played wind instruments but I'm new to strings, and trying to tune my ukulele with an electronic tuner, the tuner tunes the strings to the wrong notes?? For example the A string (far right) gets tuned to F sharp so when I try to play chords they always sound wrong. Is this how it's supposed to be?? Am I doing something wrong?? Do I need a better tuner?? Or a better ukulele??
I’m so confused I just got a ukulele with a built in Fishman tuner and it shows the top string where you say is G as F and then a d for the third string and G for the last string 🥴 is the tuner broken or something?
Well, I've watched this video and one other specific to my Snark SN-6. I'm still trying to make the G string work like it should. The thing on the meter just jumps around like crazy. I try doing adjustments very slowly. Then faster. Tighter. Looser. I may never learn how to actually play something if I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. It's probably just me, but the meter doesn't work nicely like yours. Is it possible I actually got a bum unit?
I tuned my ukulele numerous times and it Dosent sound like most ukulele instead it sounds more rough like an acoustic guitar I really need help how do I tune it to make it sound softer like Hawaiian style
LPS Clementine It may be the wood used to make your ukulele or the strings you're using. Go to a ukulele store and strum different instruments and you may hear and find the sound you like. Happy playing!
Thank you even the instructions don’t tell you where the optimal point is supposed to be. It goes red to the green point then yellow past it. But a beginner does not know where it should be. So red stays on until it meets the green line in the middle. So red and green together, is the right place. It’s not just the green line on its own. You could be trying for hours just waiting for what you think is green on it’s own to light up. I have a thomann version works exactly the same. Terrible instructions. Loads of info on tone charts yet zero explanation as to what should light up when it is in tune.
Question for anyone. I have a new tuner : DeltaLab CT-30, and I’m very confused as to what setting I should put for my ukulele. I’ve looked on the internet for hours, and nothing has come up. I originally got it for my guitar, but a lot of people say that the settings for a guitar shouldn’t work for ukulele. I also don’t understand a lot of the buttons and things 😂. So if anyone has any info, feel free to reply!! Thx!
Yup. Same for me. The meter just dances around like crazy, and even if I leave it where it is, the very next time I try to ensure it's holding, it's wildly moved around.
G# means you're tuned too high. Loosen your string a bit then you'll find it! Good luck! Of course I'm replying to your comment from nine months ago so I'm sure you're good.
Good acronym helped me to remember ukulele string tuning, G-good, C-cats, E-eat , A-apples.
Its so much fun...I have no idea what I was doing but time to get serious, I just love it! Thanks again for the help. Still learning ....
This is very helpful, but I'm confused because my ukulele has plastic strings and i don't know if there is a difference in sound
thank u. u were the only vid that helped my uke is tuned af now

Try changing the batteries
This video was super helpful with every detail, thanks!

This video helped alot but did not know you can change the tuner to different instruments, mine was on guitar till I realised had to switch to Ukulele
thank you! Son's uke is all set now :)
My dog has fleas goes back at least to 1951 when I played with my dads Uke I was 5.
Thank you for the lessons! Do you know the song banana pancakes by Jack Johnson on the Ukulele? I'm trying to learn that one.

What if it's an entirely different note?
i bought a snark tuner and i don’t know how to make it say GCEA it is turning it as a guitar. how do i change this setting?
i tuned my guitar just by singing gcea :D this video is very helpful
Great video Cynthia. What size is your uke?
What is the model of your electronic tuner. Is it just for ukuleles or other instruments as well?
Cynthia, I think I say a video where you made a cigar box uke, and had trouble with the intonation. I’ve made one, and I can’t get it right. Did you ever sort it out, and do you have any advice?
Thanks,

The G string on my new ukulele is so loose and it doesn’t even really make a sound 😭😭 I need heeelp
Tighten it. Match the way her ukulele sounds in the video at :19 and go on from there. You're almost there! Keep pressing forward!

Cynthia is your C string metal?
my c string tunes to everything but c any suggestions?
Nan J Loosen your C string and work your way up (higher).
All my strings are "4" G4, C4, E4, A4 - HELP I don't know how to change it! They sound good but maybe a little different (?)
What if it does not show C
I use the "my dog has fleas" thing
why does my A sound different
Same
Lincoln SAMEEEE
You need to tune it
Because you're not tuned to A. Keep tuning. You'll get it!
My A is so out of tune 😭😭 I cant figure out which way to turn now

Try new batteries. Sometimes that's all that's needed to help your tuner function the way it should.
i can't find c with the tuner and I don't know anything about music is it below D?
Yes, C is a lower note than D. Keep on going! Great job!
I tuned my ukulele numerous times and it Dosent sound like most ukulele instead it sounds more rough like an acoustic guitar I really need help how do I tune it to make it sound softer like Hawaiian style

any g? g 3, g 4, etc..
You see here my problem is that my tuner says my ukulele is tuned, but I doesn't sound tuned.
Go with your ears. Tune to the videos tuning and then use your tuner each time after that.

What kind or what brand of strings do you use?
I noticed that your strings are a different color..
