      Hey. 45 yo ex IV heroin addict here too--also with seven years sober (05 Mar 2017)!
      Got married in 2018, have had the same house since 2019, I beat cancer (since 2022), even quit smoking for more than three years.
      Life still sucks sometimes. Often. I'm poor as hell. Anxiety is outta control. I was laid off from my longtime job. However--now we don't have to worry about being sick every day--and that's HUGE.

    I needed to go to rehab before starting my apprenticeship for hair styling. Everyone told me to lie to my boss, make up elaborate stories etc, and one day I woke up and I thought “just be absolutely honest about what you need to do”. I told him straight up, not only did he wait for me to finish rehab but I’m still working for him years later and quite successfully. You’d be surprised how many people will be impressed with your sheer honesty even if you aren’t perfect.

    I really hope you read this. I'm 8 years sober. I was in a very dark place in my life changing country going through divorce that made me lose almost everything, and lost my job all within 6 months. All that threw me in a dark place that made me don't really care about anything including my well being. I know that this may seem unbelievable but around that time I started watching your videos Tati started doing my make up like you and it made me feel better, at that time I watched almost all your chanal videos and started waiting for every new one. I am in a country where rehab is not a thing, and I couldn't tell anyone in my family about my issues. I had to push through it all by myself, my family started supporting me when I was almost at the edge. Your videos and your positive energy helped me a lot at that time, I always want to tell you that and to thank you for somehow helping me. I am in a much better place in my life, found my soulmate and we started a family. I am now an expert in my career and very happy where I am. Thank you Tati ❤

I remebered thinking I couldnt survive it either. I was broke as well, a single parent and widow. But i just kept putting one foot in front of the other. I give myself sometimes small tasks, and allow myself to enjoy the victories of even most trival simple things in life. We are all so much stronger than we realized. hearing you talk about how michelle’s videos helped you during your recovery was so heartwarming, because YOUR videos did the same for me ❤️
    I’ve struggled with depression, anxiety, insomnia, and ptsd for years, but the worst was about 6 years ago when I was in college. I was so depressed I could barely get out of bed, but I would also go days with very little sleep, no matter how exhausted I was. I was in such a bad place, that I would regularly contemplate taking my own life. but as stupid as it sounds, your videos were pivotal in getting me through that. sometimes when you’re suicidal, it feels too overwhelming to try and think about the “big” reasons to live (like your family, friends, loved ones, etc.). sometimes, it’s the smallest things that keep you going. for me, it was knowing that each day I would have a new video of yours to watch. your voice was so soothing and you always had the best energy, and it would help quiet my mind for a few minutes. for months, the only way I could fall asleep was if one of your videos was playing in the background. those short 15-30 minutes would make the other 23.5 hours of the day bearable for me.
    I’m in a much better place now, but you will ALWAYS have a lifelong supporter in me… simply because you were there when it felt like nobody else was (whether you knew it or not). never underestimate your own gift and the immense impact you have on so many of us. we love you, and thank you for letting us into little pieces of your life for so many years ❤🫶🏻🦋

      If you’ve never attempted recovery, it’s tough sometimes but very worth it! Apologies for the unsolicited advice, but recovery isn’t one size fits all. Sometimes an inpatient center is the best option, sometimes out patient, some people stay sober with just NA or AA and some can do it with a one on one therapist. If one doesn’t work for you, try another one. Either way, as long as you keep trying, you’ll be okay.

    As a detox nurse, hearing someone who works in substance abuse blame the addict is absolutely heartbreaking. As someone with 2 parents for addicts that’s heartbreaking. Substance abuse and mental health tie together, people use substances to cope with the overwhelming feelings or substance abuse induces mental issues. Addiction is a disease. Coming out with your story, makes you more human to people who watch you through social media. Substance abuse inspires me so much, and it’s inspiring seeing people get clean and change their life. It may take a few time and that’s okay! When you’re ready, the help is here!

      So many addicts are addicts because of addiction. Nothing in their life made them do it. A few were inspired by boredom. We ALL had issues, childhood traumas, but not all search for a quick pill solution. So, yes, I do blame the addicts for addiction.

    • @amazontrish
      @amazontrish 10 дней назад +1

      Agreed. When I heard that someone working with addicts thought "addicts are the worst" it broke my heart. I used to work in a rehab clinic with both inpatient and outpatient clients and they were my favorite part of the job.
      You see them come in and many are grouchy and angry and didn't think they need to be there but had been court ordered there... Then after a couple of weeks you start seeing the change in them where they're grateful and helpful and more kind and it just keeps growing. That was my favorite part.
      My partner is 5 years sober and the change from alcoholic to recovering alcoholic is dramatic. I don't know how I got so lucky to be tied to a recovering alcoholic lol. Which seems strange to say but, he's the best human I have ever known.

    • @amazontrish
      @amazontrish 10 дней назад

      @@bosnian_beautyI think that what you fail to recognize is that addiction is a disease of the brain. A disease is a disorder of a structure or function in a human, animal, or plant. To put it very plainly, their brain is broken. They have kind of a "broken feedback loop" (as my SO puts it) that makes them believe that the drug or alcohol is the solution to all of their problems. They become preoccupied with the thoughts of their intoxicant and when they don't get it and they go into withdrawal they have negative and sometimes life threatening physical changes and side affects.
      Someone who does not have the disease of addiction is not an addict. There are people who can drink repeatedly to the point of intoxication for extended periods of time and then just quit and have no preoccupation or withdrawal symptoms afterwards. And there are those who cannot. The difference is that one has a disease and the other does not.

      Thank you for saying this I'm a mental health nurse & prior to becoming a professional utilised substances to deal with my bipolar & undiagnosed ADHD. Now I'm on controlled stimulants ironically I no longer feel the need for substances or alcohol. I think this is a big issue for us with undiagnosed ADHD.

    • @sandraleefuentes2305
      @sandraleefuentes2305 10 дней назад

      @@bosnian_beauty addiction is a disease. Nothing can force them to do substances, but to say nothing in their life made them do it is just ignorant. Just because it’s possible to manage trauma in a healthy way doesn’t mean it’s easy. Substances are dangerous. You can have your whole life together and one experimental night can ruin it, that substance can grab a hold of your life and it does. Do you think it’s easy living in today’s world? You cannot live the way you want unless you can afford to, and most people can’t afford to. Most people work pay check to pay check with no rewards, nothing to look forward to besides that substance. It’s a hard world and you should be a lending hand instead of blaming others, when clearly you don’t understand the means of addiction.

    I truly never thought I'd see a sober day. I was drinking 1.75L of vodka every 48 hours by myself. (I'm 5'8" and 110lbs soaking wet to put that into perspective)
    I developed chronic pancreatitis, I ended up drinking so much all my organs were swollen, my eyes and nails were yellow and my kidneys were failing etc
    I'd get hospitalized, get IVS, hydrated, they'd get me normal... I'd get out, go home and go right back to drinking.
    Finally, I was hospitalized 5-25-22 for internal bleeding. They fixed me up and my doctor (who had been the same doctor the last 6-7 ER trips for drinking) said 'Do you have a bucket list?" I was like "yeah, why?"
    He said "if you're going to keep drinking the way you have been, you may want to start checking some of those things off ..and while you're at it, finalize any plans you have for your boys to be taken care of when you do die because it's around the corner"
    And then he walked out...
    The harshest reality check was him basically being like "yep, you're going to die so be sure to do xyz"
    That was the last time I had a drop and have been sober ever since. #wedorecover

      My Dad died aged 51 in the ICU because his liver disintegrated from all the alcohol he drank. My Mum subsequently met another guy a bit younger than her. They were going to marry (I adored him as a potential Step Dad) but my sister caused issues and they split. He met and married someone else and the new partner got him into drinking. They also split after a few years of marriage and a couple of kids. His son went to visit him one boxing day and found him dead at the bottom of the stairs. Turns out he'd got hammered the night before and fallen down the stairs and it killed him. He was 51 too. I've never had much tolerance for drinking as it triggers acid reflux and migraines for me, and I can totally relate to being made to feel like a social leper for not wanting to drink and it really p**s me off. Like you're made to feel like a party pooper, the miserable one, you can't possibly have a fun night if you're sober etc. The only un-fun thing about being the sober one on a night out is watching the people you're with losing control and vomiting. I can be a fun person without alcohol, I don't need it to be funny or jolly.

BUT we experienced their sobriety and learned about the heredity of the disease of addiction, thanks to AA, and avoided going down the same path. Once something normalized became something very abnormal and something to pay very close attention to in our own lives. I used to drink casually, but it was never something I liked.

      I hope she is a therapist for people who have no chance of being addicts, affected by anyone who is an addict or has a loved one who is an addict. Sounds like she doesn’t necessarily have the skill set to be a therapist. Maybe coding is more for her. Something that doesn’t require empathy.

    I stopped drinking about 8 years ago when I started practicing Islam. I lost all my friends because I didn't drink and go to clubs anymore. Its sad that people who drink can't have fun without alcohol and judge the ones who don't drink. When did alcohol become a normal thing? it's a neurotoxin that slowly kills. I'm grateful for Islam and all the positive change that brought into my life.

    Tomorrow is officially one year sober for me and it feels great! I just decided I didn't want alcohol in my life anymore, I wasn't a huge drinker but I was just done with it! The amount of people in my personal life who have showed concern with my choice to be sober is so strange to me, it's something to be celebrated not something to be judged for! To anyone just starting on their sober journey, keep pushing forward because it's so worth it!

    I’m 26 years old and have never been willing to experiment with drinking or substance use. With severe addiction raging through both sides of my genes, I’ve always known that I would probably never come out of it on top. It absolutely blows my mind how frequently people judge me for this decision (at this point I just say that I’m allergic to avoid it all together) so I have nothing but respect for the people that put in the effort to take control of their lives like this. Congratulations on your hard work and sobriety.

      I’m 37 and alcoholism runs in my family. Both grandfathers and uncles (mom’s brother and dad’s brother). My parents didn’t drink (my dad used to before he met my mom, but I don’t think it was full blown alcoholism). My brother doesn’t drink and neither do I. At least not much. Probably been about 4 years since I last had alcohol. I also don’t like the taste (when I would have something it would be something sweet like a mudslide). I’m honestly not sure I ever had someone shame me for choosing not to drink, and if they did it just never bothered me. Even when I went to a friend’s wedding years ago and we were all given champagne to toast the couple, I just used my water. A friend sitting next to me drank my champagne and he actually sounded impressed that I didn’t drink.
      Unfortunately, there is such a stigma around drinking (especially in the US)… you are either shamed for not drinking or shamed for drinking. Neither should happen. People who choose not to drink for whatever reason, but especially knowing addiction runs in the family are strong for standing up to the societal pressures. Those who quit and get the help they need are incredibly strong for recognizing the problems and being brave enough to say “I need help”. I never knew my grandfathers as alcoholics; they both quit drinking before I was born - so I guess not only does alcoholism run in my family but also the strength to quit/stand up to it.

We need those kinds of 🌅🌅🔦flash lights helping others who are lost. ❤ may God bless you and keep you. 🥰

    I may have never drank like that, but I applaud you for being honest, and being yourself. It stinks that people have belittled you for being sober and not wanting to drink. I am proud of you for being honest and open with people.

    My parents are 10+ years sober from hard drugs. Addiction runs on both sides of my family so I chose not to drink or smoke, and as a 28 year old sometimes I’m still looked at funny for it. Judging someone for NOT drinking is so weird like, sorry I don’t want to poison myself for a few hours of feeling good?? I agree that alcohol is so normalized & shoved down our throats, it really makes me sad and uncomfortable. I am so so proud of you. You are so strong, I’m so glad you are still here REGARDLESS of your influence in the beauty community because you simply deserve to be here, happy & healthy. Thank you for sharing your story. ♥️

      I am 28 too and it is ridiculous how much alcohol is a part of our society, especially around our age and a little earlier in our twenties. It’s actually so insane if you really sit back and think about it. Like everyone has a beer or a glass of wine, people drink when you meet up with friends, when you go to a concert, when you go on a date, when you watch a football game with the “guys” when you are in college especially it is crazy as fuck, when you go to work occasions, Christmas parties ect. It’s so sad honestly. I am a recovering addict, not from alcohol, and it’s crazy how there’s a liquor store on every single corner, literally, and the entire country completely freaks out about marijuana and there’s people sitting in prison for years and years for possession of a small personal amounts of marijuana on them…. It’s crazy. And there’s people out there who have killed a family from drinking and driving from having their 7th dui and they just kept getting probation over and over and a slap on the wrist…. Ugh it’s sad.

      Unfortunately the people that make you feel funny about it the truth is just based on diet and nutrition and aging and chemicals they won't be here as long as you!!! Live your best life and show future generations that the path is much clearer when your present. Addiction creates alot of valuable hindsight but you can't fix things in the right now. Kudos to you!

    Sobriety is something to celebrate 🙌🏻 🎉 so proud of you!
    My dad suffered for years with narcotic addiction. He got clean and sober about 20+ years ago and spent the rest of his life (he passed April 2023) helping others with addiction. He owned and ran several private transitional homes and sponsored so many in recovery. At his celebration of life over 250+ people showed up and shared how he saved their lives.
    Talking about struggles with addiction is so so so incredibly important. You never know when something could help someone else and change the course of their life for the better .
    Recovery is not an easy road but it is so worth traveled!

A lot of what you said resonated with things we’ve been through with her. I’m so so happy you were able to change your life, you’re an incredible inspiration and I’m proud of you for sharing ❤

    Thank you for this, truly. I have 10 years sober, methadone saved my life and my daughters. I was in pain management years ago before the opioid epidemic started and doctors were passing out pills like candy. I was 18 and trusted my doctors. I ended up with a full-blown dependence on opioids. I found out I was pregnant on my 24th birthday and they discharged me even though they knew that if I quit taking the medication I could miscarry. My OB referred me to a methadone clinic and I've been there ever since, I'm forever grateful to the people that helped me get here. But it's something I only share with certain people because everyone can be incredibly judgmental. Treatment is not a one-size-fits-all, everyone needs to do what works for them. My husband has 8 years sober from alcohol and his journey to sobriety was much different than mine, but we made it work and our relationship is all the better for it. After being together in active addiction and the struggles that came with that, the hurdles that we face now are nothing. I'm so incredibly proud of you for being brave enough to share your story 🖤

      congratulations (is that the right term??) on your sobriety and on it saving your daughter. what a wonderful reason to find sobriety. addiction runs in my family. i am not addictive type, but i am opiod dependent due to a car accident. i NEVER take more than i am supposed to and never mix with alcohol. the thought of getting off opiods scares me because i have a very low pain tolerance and multiple other health issues that already affect how poorly i live. bravo for your courage.

      Remember though that there are MILLIONS UPON MILLIONS of us who who use pain medication responsibly and would be absolutely bed ridden without it. I am sick and tired of people lumping addicts in with those who use medication as it was DESIGNED TO DO: fight terrible pain conditions.

      Dependence on medication is normal by the way. Do not confuse DEPENDENCE with ADDICTED. Two completely different animals. This topic always pisses me off because of the ignorance.

      @@safiyyahmuhammad144 oh man, I could probably write a dissertation on all of my opinions surrounding pain management and everything that happened there before and after the opioid epidemic. These doctors have taken no responsibility whatsoever and now instead of learning from their mistakes and using it to help patients, they've continued to be ignorant and uneducated. They're on the opposite end of the spectrum now when it comes to prescribing any type of medication and it's only making the opioid epidemic worse. So many people are in pain and suffering and can't get the medications that they need. My ex has stage 4 renal kidney failure and he can't even get the bare minimum of pain medication that he needs and it's utterly ridiculous. I'm so sorry that you're in that position. I've had the opportunity to go back to pain management for a few years now but quite honestly, I would never step foot in one again. People might think that I'm a junkie or that I traded one drug for another because I'm on methadone but they can have their opinions, I know my truth. Methadone gave me the opportunity to be a person again instead of an empty shell. At my clinic I'm treated like a human instead of an insurance policy. I hope that where you're at, you're treated with kindness and care, everyone deserves that.

    I am 3 years sober from 9 years opiate abuse. Mine wasn't a typical addiction. It was situational for sure. I used, to cope with my husband's abuse. I overdosed three times in a matter of 4 months in 2016. A 4th time about 5 years ago and that one put me in the hospital for four days. My oxygen dropped to 70% and i went into multi organ failure. I couldnt walk. I couldn't think straight and the nearest hospital was 40 miles away. I refused to go in an ambulance. Almost like i was hoping i wouldnt make it. I was on oxygen for 6 months after that. Still didn't stop me. I used for another 2 years. Literally the day I got away from him, I never used again. Never thought about it again. I am proud of me. And I'm proud of everyone that's overcome addiction. ❤

    I’ve struggled the past 4 yrs myself. I’ve lost both my FIL and MIL (both to cancer and all that entails) and watched my hubby have a mental breakdown. Knowing that others are having struggles or are going through struggles makes me not feel so alone….but there have been many tears.

    “I don’t trust anyone who doesn’t drink” is an often used line and philosophy within our culture of alcohol. Peer pressure doesn’t end after adolescence. Choosing wellness can sometimes feel lonely. It’s vastly important to find a sober tribe. Congratulations on your sobriety to you and your loved ones.

      Hi lovely no worries if this too triggering or too much to ask but I've suffered from opioid addiction horribly in my 20s. I now take prescribed 240mg tops codeine (bnf limit) per day for chronic back pain & use it as prescribed but I'm looking to come off it & go on naproxen or another anti inflammatory that isn't opioid based. Could you tell me where I can find a good tapering/withdrawal plan or where I should start? Did you suffer from PAWS at all? Part of me just wants to stop them abruptly but I've done that before & im scared of the pain & low mood (I also have bipolar). I no longer think about opioids but I know my body is physically dependent on the codeine (horrible flu like symptoms if I forget to take it for a day or two).

      @Tified967 Start going down by 5 mg each week. At the end of each week, go down 5 more. When you get to the last 5 mgs, maybe drop by 1 mg each week from then on. I can’t stress this enough: listen to your body. If you REALLY want to be free of this, sometimes you can go down even more mg’s at a time, sometimes less and that’s okay. Most doctors don’t care about your health and will tell you to stay on the drug. It is so bad for the body. You will feel so strong that you got yourself off of it. Keep busy during the day to tire yourself out. If you need meds for sleep, use them only when you absolutely have to. Exercise maybe in a pool since you have back problems or walking-it will help your mind and body and give you natural mood boosting. Nothing that is worth it comes easy. It will be hard but it will pass! And if you’re spiritual, lots of prayer. I should’ve started with that but I hope you conquer this.
