I didn't know much about worms. This made me realize that I can actually keep them. Every week I am buying a $10 little container of worms. I could have been more cost effective! Thank you for being amazing!

After keeping a worm bin for over 30 years.......let me give some things i have learned.
They like to lay their eggs in the corn cobs. The baby red wigglers are white until an inch or more.
If you have a moisture issue use some stove pellets to absorb it. It turns into sawdust and gives a softener to the castings.
My bin was to keep kitchen trimmings into garden soil. They are super easy to care for and are very hardy.
Yes, they are escape artists. Some tiny holes in the upper sides are good ventilation.
My bin is outside so i need not worry near as much as those inside.
The worms will reproduce in good management. If you know they eat well then they are safe to feed. As he says organic care is safest. They can get large if given enough feedings.

Can we see you use your freshwater test kit!? I’m confused on the numbers it need to be in and google gives way more info than needed. Thank you!!

Brilliant video, this was EXTREMELY helpful!! I've had all the issues you mentioned; escapes, stinky moldy food, too moist, too dry, etc! They always arrive fat and juicy but I've never been able to keep them in that condition for a long period. Just had 500g of Dendrobena worms delivered couple of days ago so hopefully, with all this helpful advice, I can make them last 🤞.

good advice I have a tip or 2 my grandad showed me how to do it he was into fly fishing the tub should not let light in or be kept in the dark or they will generally avoid the walls we made them from ply wood lined with polythene old grow bags and it's better with 2 or 3 lift off sections with mesh 8mm ish on the bottom of the lift off ones you can usually get all you need from the bottom layre without disturbing the top ones we kept this type frost free we also made one from 2 black bins sank into the ground so it was good in summer and winter I hope this inspires people to have a go any questions just ask I know a lot more and love learning and sharing tips from old folks

I use coco coir (you can find them in small discs to large bricks). Soak in water to expand, add worms from breeder. Feed Purina/Mazuri worm chow. If the box starts smelling sour (over feeding [my toddler likes to help feed the worms and tends to add too much]) or you would like some nice soil for a plant, dump out the worms somewhere you can sift thru the dirt. Sift out worms (the worms are still good!) and add to freshly moisturized coco coir. Repeat whenever you want!

Yes, that's how I keep my worms. I started out with 200 and its been great. I keep mine covered with wet paper towels and like a potato sack on top and they don't escape. How often do you feed your worms?

I’ve had a pretty good one if I do say so myself, launched my website /online store and my eggs start to hatch out in about a week! I like the worm bins and I really should set up a huge one outside to feed all the little mouths. So I’m sure to be using a lot of what you brought up. My one question is how do you keep the Axolotl tanks all cool?? I know a lot of homes across the ponds don’t have central air? Are you running window ACs? Or do you have a central air system?

It's pretty cold here its not often out temperatures go above 20°c and if it does get warmer than that its not for long, a few weeks out of the year maybe. Regular water changes are usually enough to keep the tanks cool in warm weather or even rotating out frozen water bottles work too. But none of us use air-conditioning of any kind because its not cost effective when it will only be used a couple of times a year. Lol

I am considering getting a baby axolotl and I was wondering if the set up is the same as housing an adult? Do I need to take it out when I clean or feed it? Every time I clean the tank do I need to do a water test? I've seen a lot of videos of babies in small containers and I can't do that because I have cats that go in my room. Is it ok to put a baby in a 10 gallon, will it still be able to get air properly? Do you still do the care sheet?

I used stove pellets to absorb moisture in the bin.
They are sawdust and water treated under high pressure to form the pellets. No chemicals and they keep a light texture to the castings. I had better luck with the pellets and they make great garden mulch. Cheap too.

different topic butttt : last night when i was feeding i realized that my axolotl has a cut and a bump on his lip. i think i also noticed some fungus looking cotton in his gills... ;( i immediately did a water change and he doesn’t show any sings of being stressed out... how should i care for fungus or the cut on his lip so he doesn’t get sick? what precautions should i be taking?

Most large nurseries sell red wigglers. They are 150 for $16. Big robust worms too fed all organic diet.
