That certainly didn't help things, though there isn't really a good way for a front-hinged system - the dynamic pressures are far too high for a reasonably sized servo to hold, so the bistable feature of the door actually serves as a feature to drastically reduce its drive requirements.
Did the bypass door get flipped down in flight from the hinge being at the rear?
