Anyone who buys from resellers at above retail price is part of the problem. Stores aren't going to regulate scalpers, so it falls on the individual to simply not buy from them. Leave them holding the bag so to speak.
I bought my 1 preorder box from amazon JP. I’m personally happy with that. I’m pretty new to collecting so I’m not as ingrained as others but from the few mutuals I have that collect I could tell they wanted a lot more but were priced out like you mentioned.
Pokémon can only print so many cards a day/week/month. I think they should pull back on how many sets they have a year to create more time to print in between them. Even still, there is an influx of new people joining the hobby and buying up supply that have come from the new pokemon TCGP and people diversifying from crypto.
LGS has complete control over what they price at. If they sell at 2-3x MSRP when they pay way less than MSRP, they are a huge part of the problem. People would be less likely to pay ridiculous prices from scalpers/resellers if the stores werent themselves price gouging.
@ouijahttr3311 it sounds great and would be great in a perfect world. Unfortunately, when talking about PrE this wouldn't be sustainable for the set or the LGS
@ We have to lay blame where we make contact. The way things change. The end-consumer puts pressure on LGS -> LGS puts pressure on distro -> Distro puts pressure on Pokémon. What we have now is everyone with their hands up saying “don’t look at poor old me”
The last time this happened I took a few years off from buying. When my big local game store started marking up pre-orders, I was done. I have a new one now that doesn't do mark up, and if I can't get from them I don't buy.
As an out of the loop casual bulk Pokemon collector, this detailed video is super helpful. Thanks!

Good video, thank you for the breakdown for a Dad and Uncle who’s wondering why these boxes are so expensive now
@jacobfiscus430 prices will come down soon! Maybe not on this set but future sets will settle eventually 😀

This is starting to look like a bubble ready to pop

Hey that’s me, the pocket player wanting to get back into the hobby
