So cool, such amazing palms, I went to the oldest one in Exposition Park a couple months ago and made a video on it, such an amazing history, the palms have been a silent witness of the growth of Los Angeles from a small pueblo to a global metropolis. Thanks for sharing, great video!
I was born and raised a block and a half away (from Orthopedic Hospital) on Grand Ave, we had 3 palm trees of the same height in front of our apartment (which was built in 1908). Love Los Angeles history, architecture, and weather.
Actually there is one part of Canada, Vancouver in British Columbia on the west coast near Washington state (USA) that is mild enough to grow palm trees, namely windmill palms grow well there... It is about zone 8a, so rarely if ever getting below 10 degrees Fahrenheit, just warm enough to grow the cold hardiest trunking palm. I assume this is the part of Canada he lives in... You see, on the west coasts of continents, the ocean currents make it very mild and warmer compared to the east coasts of continents.. Oregon is much milder than New York despite being near the same latitude. Portland Oregon - zone 9a (gets down to 20 degrees on the coldest day in winter), NYC (zone 7a - gets around zero every winter). So, anyway, Vancouver, being warmed by the west coast, and also being south and close to the US, makes it the warmest spot in Canada, able to grow certain varieties of cold hardy palm trees. Although you will not find a coconut palm tree here or any true tropical plants, you could find many warm temperate or subtropical plant species. I think it may have an oceanic climate similar to Portland... It's really less like the rest of Canada climate-wise and more like northern Washington/Oregon...
*I should walk over to Fig from my house ( it's a 5 min. walk ) and go see if that palm tree is still there. I have a few palm trees down my block that supposedly date back to the 1934 Olympics. They need to be replaced or dug out because they're rotting away. Two trees on my block alone have lost their palm tops, almost crushing a passing car or pedestrians when they fell.*
I used to love my huge palm. Was planted when I was little. I used to hug it.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Then? I found out some palms have fruit. Now mines just whatever Big ass tree you can only see from a distance.😐
Come to Florida if u wanna see palm trees here they actually grow naturally everywhere unlike California which some would die without irrigation also not all species can grow in California u can grow any palm tree species in south Florida
Fun fact: both the species of palms in the video are native to California (Washingtonians). Unfortunately there is one species you cannot grow in south Florida that I know of and that is the Chilean wine palm, and the reason for that is it’s intolerance to humidity.
Thanks for your comment. However Keegan, Palm trees are native to the desert oasis areas of California, and would have naturally gown in parts of Southern California before it was populated by people.

It's just so sad to see those old Victorian houses come and go. The trees are the only things to have witness a whole entire city evolve.
And devolve.

I love our beautiful fan palms!
And it is so amazing to know that these trees are actually MUCH older than any of us, and they're STILL alive!

@Benjamin Quaglia maybe in a special case...but it still gets humid and they do not like that.
@Benjamin Quaglia those grow faster and from what I have heard they DO do better than the non hybrid version...
but l.a better
????
We don’t water our palm trees here.
exactly what species of palm tree,
would die in California?
It’d be cool to see the city replace the artificial landscape..like palm trees..with all vegetation that is native to the SoCal area

There are palms native to the state, so that vision is unlikely to not include palm trees.
