The operator knows exactly what he is doing. You cannot tell from the video angle but the road is less than about 15 feet away. The back tracks were almost on the pavement. We did not want to dig that close to the road and risk being liable for damages that would require repaving, or re laying cables such as phone lines.
Also the tree is directly in the road for the new pond we are digging. you do not want to disturb the dirt and make a soft spot when you are running 100,000lb pans.
A chainsaw would have easily cut the tree down duh. Digging the entire base of the tree and then pushing would have taken the tree down duh. We knew both of these but just wanted to use the new excavator and test its strength. We just stepped down from a Kobelco 300 to this new CAT.
This was just for fun.
This operator has no clue. Very lucky to get away with what they did. I knew it would snap off as soon as I started watching it. Dig up the roots on the machine side first. Those dead trees are widow makers.
You always did around the base before you try to push on it, its takes 5 times as long to dig the stump out after you break it off plus its much harder on your equipment, take my advice and you will get a ton more done
yes, dig around your side of the stump and break the roots, now you have a hinge. Your big danger is pushing with the tracks. You can snap off the dead top and it comes down on you. I start low and push SLOW with the boom and curl the bucket, using tracks as a last resort. digging out the stump later, if you need to is a big task without more tree to push on.
ive been an operator for 10 years and ive cleared hundreds of acres of land and all i have to say is that "operator" is extremly lucky. i dont know what kind of options you had as far as getting the tree down. but ill bet i could have found a safer way than that. as a heavy equipment operator the number one rule is come home in one piece to your family at night. many more of these circus stunts like that, one of these days something bads gonna happen and more than probably someone not gonna come home to their family one night!!!!!!!!!!!!
sdk4422 what would you have done differently?
diging arount the roots,perhaps!!@@antoniogriffin7135
That is so risky on many levels....machine damage
Injury, uncontrolled fall, backwards fall etc
We’ve had so many “operators” who have even pulled trees on them😳. Just what are some people thinking? This guy was very lucky.
That operator has very little experience!!
dig around the base will help ALOT duh
If you already knew about digging roots out or using a chain saw why would you risk damage to the machine or injury or death to the operator just to test the machines ability? Can't fix stupid
I have done that with a machine too. I'm talking about the operator
Tom Large oh ya I can see what he is doing wrong my uncle is a perfesinal tho he is cool
This should be called how not to take trees down with a excavator
get new operator this one has no clue
clueless operator. you want the stump out just dig around it like has been said, not only is the tree more controlled on the way down it acts like a lever and pops the stump out as it falls. just pushing like that is russian roulette with a dead tree. more guys get killed by tops falling out than most any other way in the woods
That would be nice but it could have damaged the road! We do not need to be responsible for that repair bill!
I've only used a small excavator. Even i know this is not the best way to do this, especially on a tree that was so rotted it was falling apart with minimal force. I'd try digging on a side or two and pushing, maybe closer to the ground because once again it's so rotted.
big machine don't know how to use it. It Can Dig!!!! use it
Was actually waiting for the tree to snap in the middle and then fall back directly on excavator the whole time. No guide lines to control the fall, no pre prep of trunk to aid in the direction..... just a dumb lucky operator.
new tool they invented called a CHAINSAW
Because we do not own a Frost tooth. We used what we had. Did not seem to be a problem
Very painful to watch this guy TRY to operate an excavator.
what model is that?
This dude is standing dangerously close hol shit 😂
why didnt you use a frost tooth and break the roots around the base
Cringe factor. Anxiety watching the camera operator and the machine operator. The tops of trees snap and go whichever direction they want. While it might have felt safe, it wasn't. Was good to see though as I'm looking at bringing down some bigs like that.
you pull trees, not push them
Just to cut it down sure. But the tree was leaning back toward the road which is straight in front of me. Did not want to damage that or the powerlines. This tree was well over 80ft tall. Plus when we are clearing land we like to get the stumps out also. Usually when they are alive they just pop right up. This one was to big.
I thinkjthe operator is drunk
We always used dynamite!
Dangerous 🥺
THIS IS NOT AN EXPIRENCE OPERATOR.HE DONT VALUE HIS LIFE.YOU TRENCH THE ROOT ON WHICH SIDE THE TREE WILL FALL.THEN YOU PUSH IT EASY FROM THE BACK AN THE WHOLE TREE FALL FAST.I IS A OPERATOR IN GUYANA INTERIOR.FOR OVER 12 YRS,MINING GOLD.AN HAD PLENTY EXPIRENCE WITH THESE DRY TREES.WE CALL THEM DRY TREES MURDERMAN,THE KILL A FEW OPERATOR IN THE INTERIOR ALREADY.
you dig the roots on the OPPOSITE side you want it to fall. the machine side. then push.
I love absolutely love your channel. Have you ever watched letsdig18 here on you tube. Letsdig18 check him out
good operator
Need new more experienced operator ;why you dig one side of tree about 1 mt ,then
you push from opposite side ?.
Terrible job
Try digging around the roots before pushing. Tree will fall much easier and faster.
Dig around the roots on the opposite side of what you want it to fall.
Dumb
push with bucket make sure bucket teeth bite into to the tree , u will have more control over the trree
*It was already dead, so don't think it was too painful for tree to be comically felled.*
this operator was clueless. you excavate on the sides and front of tree then push on top. tree will fall super easy after that.
This guy is just figuring out the controls obviously
Ummm looked fine to me.
Yeah comments already beat me to it, i was going to say dig and break up some of the roots in front of it so it tips over a lot easier.
