      I listen to my favorite band - The Offspring. And it's californian :) They sound great. And lyrics are very american, you know. All these phrases: "You gotta keep'em separated", "Give it to me baby, uh-huh, uh-huh", You're gonna go far, kid", etc. Just check it out, guys :) The Offspring rocks! Yeah!

    I wanted to watch this video because i've watched so many videos on how to have a British accent that I wanted to see a video on how to sound American (I am American and I speak English). As a native English speaker watching this video, I think this is absolutely amazing! I don't even realize i'm doing half the things you're talking about but I actually am! I'm sorry we are so annoying with our rules and crazy sounds. If I wasn't a native English speaker, I don't think I would ever be able to master English so for all of you out here learning, YOU'RE ALL DOING AMAZING! I appreciate you wanting to know/learn our language and learn more about our amazing cultures we have within English (American (which is super diverse in itself!), British, Australian, etc.)! We appreciate you and you are doing more than I ever could!!! ❤️❤️❤️🎉🎉🎉

    I am from England and you are spot on with every point. The only time you don't join words, is when you want to emphasise something, or make a point of something. For example if you went to school and there was a big elephant there, you would say "big, elephant, in this, school". Just one thing though Marina, your pronunciation is great but you struggle with the word "Vowel" - you say it as "Wowel" but the first letter is a solid "V". It confused me at first, so thought I would just politely point it out. Great video and will be very useful to many people learning real English, instead of just "text book" English. Well done.

  • @RLDenham
    @RLDenham 6 лет назад +198

    As a American I found much of this video to be very insightful, seeing as how many of these pronunciations are second nature. I would point out the section including don't you, won't you, meet you, etc was a little off because although some people do speak this way it is a very informal type of pronunciation and would be looked down upon by some especially depending on the circumstance in which you used it.

    • @RoseRamblesYT
      @RoseRamblesYT 6 лет назад +11

      I think this is a good point (hey, another American here). For me at least, when I am in a more professional setting, I'm more mindful of my pronunciation, which perhaps falls into good business etiquette. At least that is what I was taught growing up, and just what I've learned in the work force. Overall, it's not a "hard rule" to follow, but again from my experience, a "general rule of thumb." (This can all depend on what type of job you have, but hopefully this still made sense.)
      When I'm in a casual setting, like with friends or family, then I'm definitely more casual in my pronunciation, sometimes lazy.

      Maybe it's a California thing but the Don't you, won't you, did you section to me would sound more American if it was pronounced don'tchya, won'tchya, didchya....

    • @RoseRamblesYT
      @RoseRamblesYT 6 лет назад +2

      Perhaps not specifically Californian. I'm originally from the Midwest and I've definitely used those pronunciations, as well as many others around me. It would be interesting to know if there is somewhere in the U.S. people don't use these sort of short hands?

    I'm learning Japanese right now and I'm noticing that native Japanese speakers do similar things. For example, they have one ん consonant, but it can sound like n, m, or ng depending on the preceding mouth shape, or where it is in the phrase. It's almost like, the better you get, the more you can roll through the sounds while remaining comprehensible.

      Accent is sexy. But correct pronunciation will just make your life easier.

    Gracias, Marina. (Spanish)
    Shukria, Marina. (Urdu)
    Shukran, Marina. (Arabic)
    Merci, Marina. (French)

    You're fantastic. I heard about your channel and Stefanie a few days ago. I saw a conversation of yours and I thought it was phenomenal. The ability you have to leave me glazed in the videos is something unique.
    I do not remember that you are Russian when you are speaking English. Congratulations. Unfortunataly, on the internet always have basic English videos... I had never found advanced video like yours. Directly and precisely.
    Yes, I'm already subscribed up here as well as on Face and Instagram.
    I nearly use songs to study, but I've been heard Iron Maiden.
    Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge with us. Thankful.

    About the second thing (intrusion) sometimes it's even worse, like the intrusive R (sometimes completely unnecessary) such as in "I saw a film today" that becomes "I saw-r-a film today" (from the Beatles' song "A day in the life"), or "Law and order" that becomes "Law-r-and order" or even "drawing" that becomes "draw(r)ing" or "withdrawal" that becomes "withdraw(r)al"
