"The Ogua people of central Ghana on Saturday (7 September) celebrated their annual Fetu Afahye Festival with the colourful durbar....a pageant of singing and dancing. During the festival, the Oguas offer thanks to their gods, and welcome in the harvest and fish catch.
Prayers were offered to the Sea God, Bosompomensa, and Mother Earth, Asaase-Efua. There was some talk among the tribesmen that last year's prayers could not have been heard, as this fishing season has been lean throughout the country.
The festival also gives kinsmen from distant parts of the region to meet and pay homage to dead relatives.
A special guest at the festival on Saturday was Ghana's leader, Colonel Ignatius Acheampong. He and other members of the National Redemption Council were welcomed by the Ogua headman, Nana Mbrav Omanhene.
It was Colonel Acheampong's first visit to the town of Cape Coast for the festival. He told the gathered tribes people their chiefs would once again sit on district councils. Their seats were abolished in 1959. The Colonel stressed the vital part Local Government had to play int he unity and well-being of Ghana.
Colonel Acheampong also warned against food hoarding, which he described as "anti-social and criminal". He said the Government would apply "appropriate sanctions" against those who attempted to sabotage the economy."

This is Cape Coast. I have witnessed some of Afayhe during my student days at the University of Cape Coast.
Gen Acheampong built the high court complex for the Central Region in Cape Coast. Parts of the building are still uncompleted. The lost republic.
