Purandara daasa was in Kanadiga and had mostly kannada compositions and toured over karnataka, Andra and Maharastra. He was a most prominent musician during the vijayanagara Empire who had Humpi as its Capital.

    Some inaccuracies...
Sri PurandaraDasa is from Karnataka. Between the time of Sri PurandaraDasa and the Trinity ..there were countless Hari Dasas like Kanaka Dasa, Vijaya Dasa, Gopala Dasa, Jagannatha Dasa, and many such who have kept it alive and enriched it

Purandara as “Pithaamaha” of karnatic music has composed over 4 lakh compositions and only a handful of them are known and scripted today for lack of documentation

Apologies for any inaccuracies and thank you for the corrections.....I had mentioned that I am not an expert. Here, I am only sharing what I understand about the history of Carnatic music.
And it is very difficult to mention everyone and include everything in a 10 minute chat.

Carnatic music comes from Sama Veda itself and is as old as time. Watch Dhushyan Sridhar’s explanation on origins of Swaras. Sa for example.

Carnatic music is some 5,000 years old, in that case, which is WRONG.

What do you expect from the Brahmins who stole it from the natives and as usual made up the fake stories with vedas and claim as their own. You will realize when they go to Nadhaswaram vidhwan to learn more is the give away.

It is also rightly said that Sama Veda is the origin of music from which all other forms of music sprouted.

As said here music is devised from sama veda, since vedas are existing from time immemorial, music may also belong to that period.

Both r Indian classical music but thier aesthetics and approach r different . Carnatic is highly sahitya oriented . That is the reason the artists can't sing any raaga without a lenghtly lyrics . An hindustani artist can pull off a raaga for 1 hrs with a lyrics of only 2 lines . Starting from a slow tempo to medium to the fast reaching the cresando which they call aalap, vilambit and Drut ( something Akin to RTP ). Hindustani has a wider audience compared to carnatic which is restricted to only south . Hindustani follows kalchakra ( time cycle of the day ) where specific raags can only b sung at a particular time of the day, whereas in carnatic any raag can b sung at any time of the day excepting only one raag bhoopalam which is sung in the morning

Origin of music, including Carnatic is undoubtedly from the Saama Veda, time that Amma. Our own Thevaaram & Thiruvaasagam with ragas & thaalam are from the 7th century.
