Always happy to see other channels giving spotlight for comics from Europe. Europe Comics is a hub(joint operation of many publishers)for English digital versions of european comics. Unfortunately it will close its operation in 2023. Its purpose was to spread knowledge of european comics and act as a catalogue for foreign publishers so they could buy rights for their markets. I believe most of these digital versions will be available in future too but you have to find them from other sites.
Hi, as a fan of the show I might seen all episodes. I live in Europe and have an extensive collection including European comics. Hehe you went all-in there! Quest of the Time BIrd is my white whale! Hope Titan Comics or someone else will reprint it soon! You got a lot of my favorites there, but could add at least a few more, Wika (Titan Comics), "Tenuta-verse", Izuna, Mask of Fudo, Scarlet Blades (Humanoids), Animal Castle (Ablaze), Lucky Luke by Bonhomme (Cinebooks), Undertaker (not available in print in English to my knowledge, but on Europe Comics), The Old Geezers (Ablaze) :)
@@marcspectororamijakelockle7232 you are right..could have added the scarlet blade series. I have all except Wika which I will look into. I hope you can find the “Time Bird” I have it also in German. It was readily available when I bought it. Good luck!

@@tolga_berk Hahaha, you want me to give you more of my favs? Ok, Elric (the french one), Shi, Marsupilami: The Beast, Requiem Vampire Knight, Empty Eyes, The Scorpion, Red Baron (loved the art, not so much the story TBH). Some of these I've only read digitally and don't have English prints to my knowledge :)
Nice choices. All the previous mentiones are good picks. Some I have read: Western; Undertaker or Lucky Luke (all ages) Noir; Blacksad or Black Angel War; Children of The Resistance or The Jewish Brigade Fantasy; Conquest or Thorgal Timetravel; Frnk Dystopia; Gypsy or Mutations Sports; Michel Vaillant 2.0 or Louca Financial thriller; Hedge Fund or HSE Horror; Green Class or Raptors Historical; Game of Masks or Eagles of Rome Pirates; Raven or The Campbells Thrillers; XIII or Vertigo Sci-Fi; Valerian or Ian Etc etc 😂😇 And these are the ones at Europe Comics. Asterix is another timeless classic. I would also recommend everything from Romain Hugault; women and airplanes. enjoy your new fountain of stories and art
Incredible! Thank you VERY MUCH! I’m looking forward to checking these out - Humanoids was my intro to European comics, but that seems to be just scraping the surface 😅
As for more of Enrico Marini's work, I would highly suggest his 'The Eagles of Rome' comics (not to be confused with Britannia: Lost eagles of Rome). IMO that is his masterpiece. 5 books are already done, and after many years he's working on the sixth book right now.
Greetings from Poland, first of all as a Pole I have to recommend Thorgall, the cartoonist is my countryman. Secondly, you should definitely read Blacksad, I know it was published in English. Crime, 50s, classic noir story. For fans of spy stories "XIII" is a must-read. You make a cool channel, I'm subscribing.
Thanks for these recommendations, I haven't read anything by Europe so I'll check them out! My favourite smaller UK publishers are Avery Hill Press (check out the Ismyre series or The Impending Blindness of Billie Scot) and Nobrow (check out Thieves or Skip).
Hey, Mike! Thanks for doing a video on European Comics! On their homepage, it says they have "partners"/publishers connected to them. Here are a few: •Cinebook •Dargaud •Le Lombard ...etc... Well, you know I love westerns, & the American publishers don't have anywhere near the interest in doing westerns as the Europeans do! So, here is a list of my favorite westerns from Europe Comics & its "partners": ▪︎UNDERTAKER[6-VOL. SERIES > IN ENGLISH ON COMIXOLOGY]*ONE OF THE GREATEST WESTERN GN SERIES OF ALL-TIME, IMHO! ▪︎COMANCHE[1ST 3 VOLS. > IN ENGLISH ON COMIXOLOGY] ▪︎WESTERN[OGN > FOUND THE TPB IN ENGLISH ON AMAZON] ▪︎WYOMING DOLL[OGN > FOUND THE TPB IN ENGLISH ON AMAZON] ▪︎SYKES[OGN > IN ENGLISH ON COMIXOLOGY] ▪︎TEXAS JACK[2-VOL. SERIES > IN ENGLISH ON COMIXOLOGY]*THE CREATORS OF "SYKES" ALSO DID THESE BOOKS, & SOME CHARACTERS FROM "SYKES" EVEN PLAY A BIG ROLE IN THESE BOOKS- IT'S A SHARED UNIVERSE! ▪︎LONESOME[VOLS. 1-3 > AVAILABLE IN ENGLISH ON COMIXOLOGY; NOT SURE IF SERIES ENDS W/V.3, AS I'VE ONLY READ V.1 SO FAR] ▪︎RAIN WOLF[2-VOL. SERIES > IN ENGLISH ON COMIXOLOGY] ▪︎WILD WEST[3 VOLS SO FAR > 1ST 2 VOLS. IN ENGLISH ON COMIXOLOGY; NOT SURE IF OR WHEN VOL. 3 WILL BE RELEASED IN ENGLISH] Well, that's some of my faves I European western-themed gns & series[I'd add others, like "BOUNCER," for example(which is published by Humanoids, & is not a "Partner" of Europe Comics), but I'm not sure if the others are partners w/Europe Comics, either. But, "BLUEBERRY," "TEX," & "DURANGO" are a few other European western comics that I love! Looking forward to your next video! Hope you & Matt & your families are doing well! Until next time! 😊 👍🏻 👍🏻 ❤
To my knowledge these are just available digitally in English atm, but In Shadows will get a physical release later this year from NBM, renamed Darkly She Goes.
It always puzzled me the fact that a huge market, like the English language one, really pays little attention to European comics. Besides the usual suspects only a infinitesimal amount makes it to theirs english print version equivalent. Unlike manga the European album format seems to have a hard time penetrating the North American market. Wrong marketing techniques, not enough promotion, different reading habits? Maybe all of them. Anyway some publishers have been making an effort to bring good titles at their original format, but still it’s not enough.
This is great content!!! I really hope you will do more European comics in the future. The dream of Jerusalem is a great epic! Another historical Belgian comic I can really recommend is Murena by Dufaux and Delaby. It is about Emperor Nero. 👍👍👍
Fascinating how all these books look quite similar in terms of frames, planes, storytelling and even inking. Not much risk was taken in building action, angles, perspectives. I feel the art is quite conservative in european comics, beautiful but not particularly appealing to me. Just an opinion.
BLUF: Snowpiercer is hands down one of the greatest deepest darkest dystopian series ever made - from the French who also coincidentally have Moebius the greatest artist and story teller of them all. The 2013 Snowpiercer film is just out of this world nothing better is the kryptonite to all Disney embarrassments and hypocritical lies there are no fcking happy endings and I’m OK with that . 🤮💀🤡
2:08 in shadows
4:08 noir burlesque
6:06 aristophania
9:08 renaissance
12:03 dream of jerusalem
I recommend "THORGAL"
Thank you!!

Awesome recommendations. Been looking to get into European comics for a while now.
"Ostatnia Stacja" by Spell

Sports; Michel Vaillant 2.0 or Louca

Pirates; Raven or The Campbells

These are just amazing. I wish more people knew that comic books can be about so much more than superheros.

Any print versions of these titles
Olivier Ledroit "Requiem", Hermann "Jeremiah", Sergio toppi, Paolo E. Serpieri "Drunna", Don Lawrence "Storm" ,Segrelles "Mercenario" ...etc
Isaac Sanchez from Spain. I got one of his graphic novels, Taxus. Its like a Spanish version of Lord of The Rings.
I would like to get into more French comics but finding them with English translations has proven a bit hard.
Recommend Thorgal as well
