A forest doesn't care about being near the sea. The problem is people have plowed under almost every sea side forest.

Really? Does that actually WORK? If so...thank you so much for the tip! Any specific BRAND and scent of dryer sheets? Bounce regular? Unscented?
Addendum: Does it help to use a lot of dryer sheets when drying your clothes? What is it about the dryer sheets that repel them? The fabric texture or the actual scent?
@@maggsbufton1969 actually, using dryer sheets in a dryer could cause a fire. So, I din't use them there. As for the ticks, I guess any scent would work; it's the active ingredient that ticks don't like the smell of. Also, stay out of pine needles - they harbor ticks, too.
Is using DEet products a problem of some kind? They work best for ticks, certainly better than getting lyme, spotted fever etc. Cover up completely and spray your clothes so you don't absorb so much if you are concerned.
Dryer sheets contain more dangerous chemicals than deet. Bisphenyl a, b endocrine disruptors. They are not made to be worn!
7:33 looks like the bottom for a drop spindle... A piece of wood fits into the middle, wool or flax worked around the center pole in your fingers as the weight and spinning of the base pulls the fibers out...

As much as the cores could be from bangles, the industrial purpose for a chase baring is far more likely. Pulleys, axles, and rotational posts, mostly for seamanship. Waterproof, non-swelling tiller seat.

I'm really sorry to hear this. The desert has its own unique qualities but u should really go anywhere else.
In 2005 it sold for 2.5mil pounds , so expect to pay 4 mil up now. Get saving.
If I owned the Island I'd love to leave the digs open but covered to protect them from the elements & allow archiologists to continue their excavation.
To bad the island is marked as "SSSI", so they have to restore everything.
Owner would probably have to pay massive fines if they didn't.
After the Time Team leaves local archeologists carry on with what the Time Team found.

The one thing that strikes me the most is that everyone is ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN that they can't make conclusions without more evidence. It is refreshing, to be honest; especially in today's world where everyone who's not a professional scientist is absolutely certain of everything with even less evidence.
Is there anywhere in England one couldn't put a shovel in the ground and find *something*? It's like going to Canada and making a show about finding Tim Horton's.

@John Barber I guess most languages ”devolve” nowadays. My own first language swedish, is getting more and more deluted because of a lot of old swedish words beeing replaced by english words. Or perhaps I should call them ”swenglish” words instead, since they are proper english words but pronounced in a swedish manner which of course makes them sound stupid.
On a daily basis the world gets more or less bombarded with english by way of i.e. the Interwebz via social media, games, music and movies, so sometimes people seem to have an easier time coming up with the english word something they want to say rather then the swedish equivalent. It might seem a bit wierd, but to be honest, it happens to me too a lot. It’s like the english language is slowly replacing the smaller languages of the world one word at a time. At the same time the people slowly getting their own language replaced by english is writing stuff all over the internet in a way that’s based on the grammatics of our own languages. Which in turn means that we are spreading this devolved version of english all over the internet in some kind of a wierd and extremely roundabout way of getting even on the language that rules the world. 😀

Here I am trying to give y’all some kind of a lame @ss theory on why I think the english language is devolving because english is in itself devolving all the other languages of the world, and while I’m doing it I’m butchering your language in a way that from a certain point of view could be seen as some kind of a proof for my lame @ss theory on this matter. Which I know it is not by the way. 😁

On these kind of excavations to clear top soil a small machine that is used to cut strips of sod about 2 inches thick. This machine can be brought over on a small boat and easily unloaded ashore to make sod removal much faster.

ive always known the best way to find and preserve history is to give yourself 3 days....
If they would not do it that way they would be stuck at ONE site and would not get to investigate the whole country.
Others can follow and do their lifelong research on the found sites later.

I like what you're doing because you're trying to figure out the history of it and I like that you discovered it and you saw what it was and you made out what it was it might not be somebody looking for a treasure chest which rather some were buried there or not and that's not even what the movie is about but your team and you guys are really good you figure out the real you look at them they're really serious stuff the good stuff and you figure it out what would it what was it there for what was it used for the history of it that's what's important and then you can document that keep the keep all that information so we know what it is what it was used for stuff like that that's awesome keep up the good work

Yeah, I want a cohesive explanation for how the great pyramid was built too. The 3 smaller ones are obviously imitations.
I can go for the "it was a public works project that spanned centuries l" but no single documentary has integrated all of the specifics
One theory I saw a vid about involved using a system of locks that would allow them to to use floats on the bricks to move them vertically. It was speculated that the causeway was fill of water so stones could be transported from boats on the Nile and straight to the side of the pyramid where the water-locks would begin.

Is it standard procedure for the narrators (most documentary's) to walk as fast as they can towards a backing up camera?

Very exciting!
Several intertwined reasons. 1. Cost - a multi-camera production that has to film on-location is really expensive. The fewer days they have to film the cheaper the episode. 2. The pitch was to keep the commitment small to push the urgency and keep the production manageable - Mick and Tim set up the show this way. 3. The folks that were included in the show have other jobs - several with teaching engagements - and they needed to accommodate their schedules.
The scientists all have day jobs at universities, preservation societies, ect. So they are limited on the time they can invest. Plus the short time adds drama. They talk about the limits amount of time each member can invest in one of the episodes, but I cant remember which one.
Seems entirely due to TV production concerns. Archeology exploitation rather than a dedicated scientific endeavor.

Those finds, all finds, look spectacular to me.
quite amazing how a lot of commenters don't know about Time Team or it's 3 day format...
Why is it specifically 3 days?
Probably a reasonable compromise between several factors, likely hinging heavily on budget and filling an hour long show.
It's primarily a SHOW, rather than an actual dig that just happens to be documented. You wouldnt waste time and resources shooting for four weeks, when three days will fill the hour already. The show needs to sell and to facilitate that, you try to make it as cheap as you reasonably can.
There's also diminishing returns on most of these sites. They're never gonna find the grave of an unknown king complete with golden crown and treasure, so if you dig for three days you might find 20 sherds of pottery and although in four weeks you might find 200, they're still just bits of pot. To the general public, the appeal of watching the 200th piece of pot being dug up isn't very high.
@@ratulxy Originally, so that everyone involved could film the programme over a long weekend and be back at their universities or commercial archaeology companies on Monday morning. And for reasons of cost - it was expensive to produce.

The geophys team did use radar sometimes, just not on most sites. Not sure why they didn't bring it out more often.
@@JC-wv7om yeah it's the best thing to look for old structures(mounded soil, old post holes, graves, etc) especially if there is a time constraint.

The Time Team aren't currently active (last I heard, one of them was trying to crowdfund a new season but most are currently doing other work), but you'd need a degree in archeology and/or anthropology to do this kind of work.
riveting, after three days some finds are known to merit much more. We know where to invest.

On google earth there are three large circles next to the present day shore, they are south of the pier, across what looks like a drainage channel. Two are holes and the SW one looks elevated. Anyone else see this or have a guess? It's amazing to see film of site and compare it to what is visible from satellite.

Why was the island owner so stingy about digging more pits or trenches (she would only allow one more very small one when asked)? Wouldn't she find the history they uncover on the property fascinating? They said they would replace her precious turf, afterall.

I didn't finish the video yet, but maybe a reason to have all the shipping to to the island, is for easy redistribution. THe ships of the era would have been able to beach to load and unload, so ships coming from overseas could come to unload into boats that would go do various other harbors, and load up with goods from all sorts of harbors,, that way local shippers could just bring their goods to green island, then those goods would be loaded up by overseas shippers.
Could be for sure that makes sense. Maybe loading onto rover boats too to go up river into the country side
