I am not a buddhist, but I am vegetarian as respect for the living beings, for myself and my health and also because I know that the humans integrate the bad energy from all the suffer the animals felt into their bodies and it interferes with our own energy.

Thank you. I fast every New Moon day & Full Moon day - from sunset the night before until sunrise the day after - a good exercise in self-discipline, a great way to "hit the reset button", something I'd recommend to everyone if their health permits it.

The phrase "everything in moderation" actually does not equal the Middle Way. This is a misunderstanding. This is clear when we say the following examples: murder in moderation, torture in moderation, rape in moderation.. These are things that should 100% never be done at all! "Meat" is the result of someone's torture, abuse and murder, and must not be done at all. This includes all sentient beings: humans and all animals!

Buddha taught not to kill any living and breathing beings for taste and pleasure of senses. All animal slaughters happen to enjoy the taste of meat. Plant food is abundant and had always been abundant. So, eating the meat slaughtered by someone, especially a follower only increases the karma. Accepting the meat and giving it to dogs or any wild animals / birds is far far far better and lower karma than consuming that meat and thereby consuming a small portion of the karma from murder of the animal or bird or creature.

I accept your good intentions to give away the meat given by someone. If your can chant some mantras for the dead of the meats parts belongs to will be excellent. As the Sangha had said, it could be your wondering past parents reincarnated in samsara. Recite the triple jewel for those dead meats parts works equally perfect as reciting it for yourself or any beloved just past away. Namo Buddhaya, Namo Dharmaya, Namo Sanghaya. Namo Amitabhaya!

    Awesome 👏 video thank you.
The truth about eating meat 🥩 n fish 🐠 is that it’s allowed only from a natural dead animal. 2500 years ago in India 🇮🇳 it was dense forest with lots of wild Buffalo 🦬 Deer 🦌 etc… so people gather meat from dead animals and preserve them in salt 🧂 or honey 🍯 or smoke 💨 it. In pali the term meat 🥩 refers to flesh of MUSHROOMS 🍄.
So the correct answer is no Meat 🍖 from the supermarket as it’s a known fact that the animals are raised n killed for meat.
A real Buddhist will not eat meat.

Can eggs or milk still be consumed in Buddhism, or does meat prohibition extend to those milk and eggs?

    • @BuddhaWeekly
      @BuddhaWeekly  Месяц назад

There are no prohibitions in Buddhism as such. Buddha taught "right conduct" and "right living" and "right speech and so on. The teachings were about "positive affirmations". But the 8 vows for monastics and 5 guidelines lay people (Most of us) who take Refuge are the only time it's really put in terms of "refrain" and it's contextual -- from the point of view of reducing suffering of others and yourself, not from the point of view of punishing you. When he taught "refrain from harming sentient beings" for instance" it includes ourselves. The five lay guidelines are:
Refrain from harming sentient beings (so, for example, if you need it for your health, and if eggs and milk are not creating suffering, they are fine. (for example, many vegans might go "organic" where the chickens are less likely to have suffered.)
Refrain from taking what is not freely given.
Refrain from misconduct that harms others
Refrain from negative speech: lying, gossip, slander, that harms others.
Refrain from intoxicants that harm the mind or reduce our clarity
None of these are prohibitions. We're to be mindful of the suffering of others. Hope that helps. It's a big topic.

To clarify, the term "Buddhist vegetarian" is not the same as the usual "Ovo-Lacto vegetarian", and is in fact "Vegan" (no meat, fish, eggs, dairy) plus no pungent spices like onions and garlic.. In today's 21st century modern world, with abundant supermarkets, transportation, technology and trade, there is really no good excuse to not be Vegan. All meat, fish, eggs and dairy is the direct result of intentional animal abuse, suffering, mutilation and killing.. In today's global food economy, the mass killings of factory farms is intended for profit and intended to keep feeding customer's addiction to animal flesh and secretions.. If you call yourself "Buddhist" you should take the 1st precept of Ahimsa very seriously. To practice Buddhist Ahimsa is in fact to be Vegan.

    Killing in moderation?

    • @BuddhaWeekly
      @BuddhaWeekly  2 дня назад

Although the Buddhist path is the "middle way" The degree to which we interpret and abide by the precepts is up to us as individuals. Buddha didn't lay down "laws" with punishments. He gave us advice and teachings.
For Lay practitioners, the five precepts are advice for us:
      to abstain from taking life.
to abstain from taking what is not given.
      to abstain from sensuous misconduct.
      to abstain from false speech.
to abstain from intoxicants as tending to cloud the mind.
He also taught Bodhichitta, Metta and Karuna (Compassion and Love.) None of these are laws. This is our kindly teacher giving us heartfelt advice.
In some translations "abstain" is translated as "refrain from..." rather than abstain.
In terms of the core teaching, the eightfold path is: Right Understanding
      Right Intent
      Right Speech
      Right Action
      Right Livelihood
      Right Effort
      Right Mindfulness
      Right Concentration.
How we interpret "right action" is up to us personally. I Hope that helps. In kindness, BW

Humans are biologically and evolutionary omnivores
Plus some editions of Buddha's death was said to be from a mushroom
So yeah, even a vegetarian/vegan diet isn't safe either
    Balance is key

Some say pork. Different translations, different teachers. (He ate alms, and the sutra account says he knew the food was spoiled (spoiled being the key aspect rather than vegetable or meat) but that he ate it anyway (customary to always accept was is given as alms). Buddha was quite advanced in age, especially for his day, and basically passed when he was ready to go. He was Buddha.
