You're not only a great instructor, you are also an entertainer. It doesn't matter what video I watch, be it knitting, crocheting or what-not, I end up having a good chuckle at something you say or do! Thank you for that!
Thank you! I’ve been watching both tutorials with keen interest. I’m a lace knitter (haapsalu, Shetland, Ohrenburg… ) and my main issue is finding lace weight yarn that is to my liking. One of my favourite things to do is when I am in a situation that involves giving a gift, I prefer to give something I made myself. Knitting and crochet already fills a lot of that need. But being able to gift a lace shawl or scarf I didn’t just init or crochet myself but also spun the yarn for is something I’ve been contemplating for ages. I thought I’d need a spinning wheel. Apparently not. A spindle should do it and surprisingly there is A LOT more choice in wool, wool blends etc to pick from that with some practice I might be able to spin! I think I might get myself two spindles. A slightly heavier (medium?) practice one that would work towards getting the hang of it, and once I’m satisfied with the results, the lightest one I can get for laceweight yarn. There’s even a local farm that sells washed, carded wool to crafters and the fibers are ideal for spinning fingering weight and even lighter weight yarn. And they sell it cheaper than I can get online if I go pick it up myself (they have this eco-deal that the closer you are, the less they charge). Your video cinched it. I’m ordering spindles and practice wool. THANK YOU!
Your videos for learning to spin are so incredibly helpful! I've used your tutorials for crochet and was so excited when I wanted to learn this next evolution of my craft I was thrilled when I found your videos for guidance! Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
I'm glad you made this video as there is no one who can show me what to do. I refer back to this video over and over again when I need the next step in the process. ❤
Thanks for actually illustrating how it pigtails after being plied. All the other videos I watched on finishing, they all had these perfectly relaxed hanks after plying (but mine most certainly is not!), so I watched this today to figure out how to fix that. But in watching your video, now I know that this is normal! And, I can even feel free to add a little more twist when plying! This is great to know. Thanks so much for solving this mystery! I don't know why nobody else mentions this!
Thank you so much for all you do! I made a virus afghan following your podcast and made my Mom a spider shawl. She took it to the nursing home and used it constantly. She said all the nurses wanted it! I just wanted you to know...I appreciate you sharing your talent with me. Just a girl from Texas
Great tutorial. It's a lot of work but a lot of satisfaction seeing the end result of your work. Now we can understand why hand son, hand dyed yarns are so pricey. Although those who do it and sell it probably aren't getting as much money as they should be for all their work. Thank you for sharing.
Omg I just plied for the first time thanks to you and this video! Not perfect but better than I thought it would be!!❤️ And I am definitely NOT a center ball plyer! Your way actually works and works wonderfully!! Your an awesome teacher and a fantastic person! I love your teaching style. Thank you for helping me gain confidence and not throw my equipment across the room and stomp my feet like a two year old!!😂
I vote this "Best RUclips Video of the Year". I thoroughly enjoyed this sooo much. I can't wait to spin my yarn too. You are a wonderful person Fiber Spider!
Funny that you mention Bob Ross, I was just thinking about him today, because my Mom & I were talking about him yesterday - his quotes are so funny, down to earth, and TRUE. I don't spin, but I really enjoyed watching 2 of your spinning videos today, they are so interesting that they seem shorter in length than they actually are! Your kitchen looks a lot like mine, the counter tops are the same colors, black appliances, and my cabinets are very similar!
So, that's why my center-pull balls get all tangled while plying even though I used two?! From now on I will use your method and I am sure it will work out. I learned a lot from you and thank you for this class! Have to admit you cracked me up at the end with the safety little dance :)
I have started spinning after seeing your first video. Took a little time to figure it out but once I got it I love doing it! I’m so happy that you did make this video so now I know what to do next whenever I get to that point. You make this look like fun. I love working with my hands. I try to keep going for as long I can still use them. Thank you for all the time you take and work that you do to make these videos. You are an amazing person!
Thank you I just attempted my first spinning and its a success, not sure I can knit with it but I will have a ball of my own yarn and by the time I'm done hopefully able to make a usable product.
Super helpful, thank you! I’ve seen people testing the twist/tension but never say what they’re looking for, now I have some ideas what was going on with my first spin. Ready to re-try tomorrow!
The yarn is gorgeous. I'm so glad you said you use the Russian join. I use it 99 % of all my joins. Even have used it on thin yarns. But all my sisters in my church, on our quilting day, and I'm working on a crochet project . I use the Russian join and the sister s that watch are saying that it's too much bother. Not to me. The Russian join makes the project seamless. No unsightly knots it loose ends that always work their way out of the weaving in the ends.
I love your tutorials! You are a talented teacher! I just have begun spinning (like yesterday!) and when my spindle is full and the next one as well I will definitely come back to this tutorial! I heard of the steps before, but seeing you do it and talking through the whole process makes it way easier to apply. Thank you!
Great video, informative and entertaining! Your yarn is something to be very proud of! Obviously you did all of the steps right to achieve the beautiful outcome. Thank you again for all you do.
Thanks! Good seeing how to wind it before the skinny dip. I finally have one ready to ply. I had to pre-draft everything to get any kind of consistency. It's a long process, but for me it's relaxing and fun.
Your yarn is so pretty. I just love the colors all twisted together. I may try this some day. Especially if I ever get any wool producing animals. Lol 🐏🦙
Thanks for showing us this cool process. I’m still apprehensive to try this, but your demonstration has definitely planted the seed in my brain. My knees wouldn’t take that dance but watching you do it is the best part of this video 😂😂😂
Hi Fibre Spider, hooe you're OK. Love your tutorials, first Drop Spindling & now this one. I've only been Spindling a few weeks, you're an inspiration, sharing your expertise with us. Love your "safety dance" hope you didn't have soggy knees when you finished. Happy Spinning, knitting or crochet. Take care & stay safe. Love from England xx Ps love your channel. Xx Have just subbed to you.
Great tutorial as always! Got a drop spindle and some inexpensive wool to try out, tried spinning just a little and think I will like it, but have been trying to finish up some wips before really getting into it. Excited to keep going!
What an amazing process! Thank you for sharing! I would absolutely purchase yarn from you when you start selling it. Your "safety dance" had me laughing! 😂😂😂😂😂
you probably dont give a shit but does anybody know a trick to log back into an instagram account..? I somehow forgot my login password. I would appreciate any assistance you can offer me.
@Armani Jamal Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site on google and Im trying it out atm. I see it takes quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
Thanks for sharing Fiber, I want to do this so bad and you were making it look so easy till you had to 'dance' on your knees, lol. I can't even think about doing that with out hurting. But I feel I learned so much from watching you. I think I will just stick to crafting with the yarns and let others craft the yarn for me to use, lol. =)
I really enjoy seeing videos like this & at what I consider a good pace for me. Thank you, @Fiber Spider... A little side note of concern though. I've noticed quite a bit throughout the video that your hands were shaking.. Please tell me that it was from nervousness & not something else...
thank you for the demonstration is't very helpful for me, i was scared to ply never did it before (í'm a beginner dropspindle spinner) so very much and handy tips it makes me less scared to give it a try ;) you made me giggle at the "dance"part :0
Very cool, loved your video, often wondered and now I know, but truthfully, I made my own spindle, and will probably make my own knitty knotty, a length of pc pipe and two elbows from Home Depot, not a problem, when you are not well to do you learn how to make your own stuff. I'm real handy that way, after all couldn't you make one from tinker toys like we played with as kids?

I not only liked this video, and thumbed up, I LOVED this video! Not having someone in person to show me this video is the next best thing.
Your videos for learning to spin are so incredibly helpful! I've used your tutorials for crochet and was so excited when I wanted to learn this next evolution of my craft I was thrilled when I found your videos for guidance! Thank you for sharing your knowledge!

I'm so grateful you did these videos on spinning. I love your crochet tutorials so much so these are helpful in my preparation to try spinning!

I enjoyed this tutorial very much. You are a great teacher for all of your tutorials. 😊

Forgot to tell you how beautiful the yarn you created was...it is truly stunning.
If you need tension on the spools to keep them from unwinding unevenly, you can use rubber bands around the drive groove or the tops.
That is a LOT of WORK...GREAT job!!!👍🏻🧶
I had no idea there were so many steps in this process. So interesting. Thank you so much for this...🧶🧶🧶
I don't think I will ever get the hang of spinning but I now have a new appreciation for hand spun fibers. VICKIE G
This was awesome!! A lot of work, I can appreciate my yarn more!!
Holy moly that's a lot of work but the result is beautiful. All that and a Bob Ross reference!
So, that's why my center-pull balls get all tangled while plying even though I used two?! From now on I will use your method and I am sure it will work out. I learned a lot from you and thank you for this class! Have to admit you cracked me up at the end with the safety little dance :)

Thank you for keeping it simple
Can’t wait to see what you will make with you yarn

Hello Fiber Spider! I was sent you one 📦. It is ready for pick up in your mail box office. 😉
So helpful! Thanks!
Great video! I need to find my drop spindel (in the amazingly stuffed craft room lol) as soon as I can do ANYTHING due to this surgery lol
so so helpful, thank you!!
Love you!💐 Thanks 🙏
How interesting so very cool never seen this before.
Great instruction - thank you. May I ask where you obtained the lazy kate in the video?
I had a similar issue with a ply ball-I managed ok but a lil terrified of doing it again.
thank you for the demonstration is't very helpful for me, i was scared to ply never did it before (í'm a beginner dropspindle spinner) so very much and handy tips it makes me less scared to give it a try ;) you made me giggle at the "dance"part :0
So interesting thankyou
So incredibly helpful! Thank you. :-D
I am curious if it matters if the spools on the lazy Kate have their yarn feeding out from under or over the spool.
Wow thanks!!!!

It seems so hard. Is it hard to learn or to get started. I love How you do it. Lol. 😄😄😄😄😄😄🤗🤗
OMG I LOVE THE DANCES YOU HAD ME LAUGHING
Wow 🤩
Is it possible to set the twist twice? I accidentally soaked and set the twist before the ply
And nowwwwww my husband is watching your Skyrim game! 😂😂😂
