I introduced my dad to this song after I got into OFF. We’re both obsessed with the trumpet and the saxophone and we legit cannot stop admiring how amazing those instruments sound in this song. (Along with how good the song is in general.) Funnily enough, he also used to play baseball around the same time he began playing the trumpet. I think it’s kinda funny.
I've noticed that as well: my reasoning is that grayfruit streamed this game even a couple of month ago, even though I wonder if he is that influential of a streamer/RUclipsr to make a noticeable impact. On the other hand, OFF is quite a niche subject so maybe that was enough to create ripples of attention towards the game.
Some random Belgian-French music composer found this song one day in 2007 and said to his best friend who wanted to make a game based off a drawing he made for art class "This one."
Honestly I don't know but this song was pressed n' distributed in France as the "Pepper Steak / I'd Love It" 10" vinyl spit with the McKinney's Cotton Pickers according to the website Discogs.
SPOILER WARNING I guess Hugo heard this record playing while in the hospital, it would kind of make sense why he would remember it distorted (he was sick, so his memory wasn't perfect?). Also, specters were an analogy for his sickness, so if the song plays while he is sick.. idk my connections end there have a nice day Also, we get a time frame for the events of OFF around or after 1931 since that's the release date of this record.
!!! So badly want Tuba Skinny to work this up and bring it to life again ... they've got the chops and Shaye Cohn cornet, Robin Rapizzi's washboard, and Jason Lawrence's pickin' would knock our socks off ..... !!!!!!!!!!
Thanks to OFF i was introduced to this amazing hot jazz/swing band from 1930s. You should check out humming to myself and some of these day too which was a pretty amazing record by them
Hey, what can I say, sampling and sample chopping are very powerful tools. OFF used the horns of Pepper Steak as repetitive loops and samples single notes as fills for the song. I think much of the catchiness comes from loose drums and the swingy and offset of the sample.
Dave Riddick, trumpet / Jimmy Shine, alto saxophone, vocals / Carl Wade, tenor saxophone / Eddie Miles, piano, vocals / Steve Washington, banjo / Jimmy Spencer, washboard, vocals. Recorded Camden, NJ, March 1, 1932.
Who knew that some 70 years later this song would be used in a strange French video game?
Stranger things have happened.
I think.
I'll be the pedantic one - it's Belgian ;]
Strange is an understatement.

"How do you like your steak?"
"Pure."
How fitting,
That SWING music was sampled with a game that has a BATTER as a main character,
...
+Will-A- Wisp I hate to kill your pun, but I wouldn't call this swing. It's more like early southern jazz.
Plastiware And where did Jazz originate from?
Will-A- Wisp
It mainly evolved from ragtime and blues. Swing is a specific form of lively, big band jazz that became popular in the 40's.
Huh, apon closer inspection, It appears I was wrong.
Now I know :D
+Plastiware Actually if you loop up Washboard Rhythm Kings, multiple sources site them as swing jazz.
can we ignore the fact this is the sample for OFF and appreciate how fire this is normally
Naahh we can't just ignore that
El bateador: no
I can ignore that, yes. I like this song.
Same with I'm A Member of The Midnight Crew
I can. This is danceable as hell.
The theme for when everything is pure, so you're on break.

yes but the OFF version is like a remix of this. I can tell form listening to both versions.
Ya well everyone knows it's a remix...
Remix is an inaccurate word. It's just the samples taken what many artists do, it's completely legal
