Basque Dance: Banakoa - Chino, Calif. 2018

- Banakoa is a popular folk dance in the Basque-American community. Many young people learn it as part of being in a dance group of a U.S. Basque club. This impromptu dance took place at the Chino Basque Festival 2018. The festival is sponsored by the Chino Basque Club in Chino, California and takes place every year on the first Sunday of September at the Chino Fairgrounds. The musicians include Iñaki Dieguez on diatonic accordion, Txema Garces on bass, Joxerra Mitxelena, Joseba Loinaz on keyboard, Leire Agirre on tambourine, all from the Basque Country, and Denis Petrissans on drums, from Chino, Calif.

Today I learned that I am only 2% Basque. I had never even heard of the Basque until it showed up on my dna results. This is by far the most amazing culture and people. This is one of the funnest things I have ever seen. :)

Eskerrik asko, Raul!
kaixo! so nice to see that basques stick together wherever they are... we can be proud of ourselves since we are a very unique culture that has endured the indogermanic invasion and beyond (romans, visigoths, moors, and the Spanish and French states), we are perhaps not so many, but indeed quite visible, especially in the diaspora, like in the US, where it is a rather small but vibrant community (perhaps not like in my Southamerican country where basque descendants are in the majority, like the irish in the US (and incidentally I am also basque-irish)) Gora Euskal Herria

Basque Country is the cradle of ancient warriors and knights. They are less likely to be immigrated by Portuguese and Mooro people, so they have light skin, red lips, high noses, deep eyes, and look more elegant than other autonomous regions of Spain.
Especially, they are a people with a martial spirit and a princely spirit. Typically, A.Bilbao club never buys players originating outside the Basque country. Real Sosiedas as well as 1 opposing team in each Spanish city are royally sponsored vassals.
The Basque Country and Basque people are so beautiful.
It seems the Irish took some music and dance from a prehistoric group of the first European...2 out of 3 British people have some Basque blood so says the famous geneticist Oppenheimer.
Interesting. We’ll have to research that….
Zorionak! Kriston Giroa!

Are there a lot of Basques in Chino?
Yes, lots of Basques on Chino. They came there first because there was plenty of space for dairies.
@@EuskalKazeta I DIDN'T know that. I knew there was a community in BOISE. Actually I stopped over my mothers house (I'm in South Boston) and my stepdad was watching I think GUNSMOKE or BONANZA (I HATE Westerns) and the episode was about Basques.
@@EuskalKazeta I went to a Lithuanian parochial school when I was a kid I was an altar boy and one of the last names that was common amongst lithuanians in South Boston was IVASKA. Lithuanian is the OLDEST SURVIVING Indo European language. I wonder if there is some relation. IVASKA...Vascones
@@FrithonaHrududu02127basque is preindoeuropean.
@@rolflin yeah I'm aware. I was asking if there are a lot in Chino California which apparently there are.
Verry good!!!
Welcome to Armenia🤗🇦🇲🇦🇲🇦🇲🇦🇲🇦🇲🇦🇲🇦🇲🇦🇲🇦🇲
Thank you, Karen! I love the Kochari - Armenian dance.
What is the rhythm pattern here?
2, 2, 2, 3, 3, as in "one two one two one two one two three" if you wanted to count it out loud. That's why it feels like 3 short beats and 2 long ones - because the first three consist of 2 eighth notes each, and the last two beats consist of 3 eighth notes each (it fits into a measure of 12/8). You can feel the 123, 123, 123, 123 as well. Hard to explain just writing like this but hopefully that helps people figure it out. Another example of 12/8, albeit one far off from this, is "What a Wonderful World" (though it is much slower) in case you want to look at something with another type of 12/8 feel!
Well explained. Perfect
OSO ONDO NESKER
R.I.P the legs
The legs get stronger!
@@EuskalKazeta I do hope so! We have to learn these steps in the coming weeks and many of us in the Basque Dance class are in our 50s! But we have the best teacher so we’ll get there eventually!
BTW, Amazing video! What a wonderful atmosphere! Keep up the good work!
Eskerrik asko bihotz bihotzez ta Zorionak! Segi dantzan!

Looks a bit like zipota
Hi, Matt, What is zipota? Are you familiar with Banakoa? euskalkazeta.com/banakoa-the-popular-basque-dance/
Por eso no queremos venir somos iguanales de Rebeldia y el Espiritu ...!!!
Face it , you learned a bit of basque when you watched Ankara Messi video....
Some students were sunbathing on the lawn. The were staying at least six feet apart. Basking separatists, I suppose..
What's wrong with these people? Fire ants?
