How should we name this character?
This is a comfy Art Process video in which I want to design a new character and create a reference sheet! He will be part of the same universe as Rin, so let’s do try to make some art!
I don't follow any specific rules, just having fun exploring a new OC. So see it as comfy and carefree sketching session and "Draw with me" :)
Also, sadly my CSP brush isn't available anymore so I linked a different brush here which I will use as well in the video.

Ahh lol thank you xD I always worry that they might be too uncharacteristically if that makes sense. That they just look pretty but not showing a strong character design or personality. But I appreciate your words 😌
@@kurohshiro Oh, TRUST ME, they have a GREAT amount of "character" in them. The EXPRESSIONS, the pose, the figure, the lore and story you put within their poses and clothes, is all PURE AMAZING and skill. Every single brush stroke you've made till this day has led you to become this powerfully skilled artist with mastery of pose, figure, and character composition :) I love your work Kuro, and I saw your Instagram. It's ok, I get it, life can slowly lose its colour especially when all seems dark. Everything loses meaning, purpose and you feel terrible and shitty. It's not your fault. Trust me, it gets better. You just need an outlet for ur emotions (whether it's a person or a hobby) as well as some time and patience. Learn to love yourself even if you hate it. It'll help. I wish u the best Kuro, your art and tutorials have helped me in areas no other artist has. I have learned a great deal from your work, and I just hate to see my favourite artist feeling at their lowest point. I wish you the best of luck and know that you are never alone 🤍
oh rin’s gonna be absolutely delighted to have a gorgeous companion :D also, the red black and white palette for characters is just peak color combo imo, like they just can’t look anything short of fabulous 😩 i thought of Shion as a possible name, i think it’s associated with grace and charm that he really seems to embody :D

Name ideas: 1. Shin. means “real, genuine.” 2. Ryū, means "Dragon" (would be cool cuz of the red/black color palette) 3. Yuto, means “excellence, superiority” and to “soar, fly.”

Hey! Krita is an amazing drawing software. I never got the chance to try it myself but hopefully I can test it soon :) but in general I would say that you can make amazing art with it :)
Hii, I'm Indian too and your English is great! I started first with Ibis Paint X and Krita and I can vouch that Krita is definitely really good! Has a bit of a learning curve but you'll get used to it in like a week. Good luck, my love!

Your english is great, there's no need to worry
You have to remember, the artist is the one who makes the art, not the tool. There are plenty of good programs out there, both free and paid. I started with Medibang (years ago when it was better free), then Photoshop, and now CSP EX. The best program is the one that suits you the best
I never used it, but I've only heard good things about Krita so it's worth a try. You can find many tutorials here on youtube, maybe watch a few to see which one you can understand best, while also explore the program by yourself. Good luck!

I absolutely LOVE the new OC. The color palette is just chef's kiss! Love seeing the brainstorming behind the finished design. Love the idea of him dyeing his hair. I find that the white suits him, tho I am biased >
Ahh white hair is such an aesthetic in Anime haha when I drew him I had a moment where I was thinking of Tokyo Ghoul lol thanks a lot for commenting!
@kurohshiro My ultimate types are anime men with white hair, especially long one. First ever crush was Sesshomaru. And Tokyo Ghoul is based 🤭.

I think maybe Isao as a name? it has a meaning assosiated with achievements, wich i think he has a ton to have reached so high up with his classy vibe. I love this character, the vibe is so cool. the colors really complement each other! it looks like there´s a ton more of him that meets the eye. . I cant wait to see more of him and Rin!!☺☺

Aw that's great to hear! I love just making several illustrations of the same character without being limited to one aesthetic or style. It provides more room to experiment with the character and the personality :) I can definitely recommend trying this :)

Hello! I have been watching your videos for a while and as a begginer (middle school) artist and anime lover, I love watching your tutorials! Although I don't have access to digital drawing websites, your videos helped me get a better idea when drawing on paper. Your OCs are all gorgeous and awesome! A name you can give this character can be maybe Shirai or even Shiki. I feel it just suits! Anyway I hope you can keep making great videos!
Aw thanks! I am happy that you like watching my videos. And honestly my process and stuff can be applied to traditional media like pen and paper as well. Showing that the process of an artwork isn't always streamline and pretty or how to work with references and so on. Also thanks for the names!

your art has the similar vibe of 1EternalStar's characters, they look so majestic (not in a brain rot way) and ethereal. although your artstyles are very different, that elegant vibe is there and i'm in love with it

Oooh I love the new OC! I can't wait to see some illustrations with the two of them together! He seems to give off a fancy, European vibe to me, so the first name I thought of was Alexandre. 🤣Russian and German names always sound very cool to me, and he's giving that vibe for some reason. Plus, since he's a counterpart to Rin, I think he would suit a long, fancy name.

The dark red jacket, patterned clothes, and his general vibe feel very "supervilliany" (not sure how best to explain it) on the surface, but it feels like maybe it's just a front that he puts on in front of other people. The fact that he dyes his hair to look a lot more bold (compared to Rin who looks very mysterious and striking) makes me feel like he wants to be seen this way in front of others but his real personality is hidden. Maybe it's up to Rin to break though his shell and figure out who he really is. 😳

It's very refreshing! I just designed a persona for this Vtuber that i watch and I couldn't tell why my design was boring xD i did get the don't make the poses face the same direction thing but idk what needs to be highlighted and what not. Your video helped me highlight the aesthetic that i should give my character. Thankyou!

That's actually a good point! A character sheet makes also sense to revisit old oc designs and give them a second chance so they don't catch too much dust lol I should do this as well since it's definitely a fun thing to do and even easier when you have some sort of original reference design to base the redesign of :) also thanks for your suggestions! Welcome here! To be fair this was just luck and a Happy little accident that it went so smoothly with my design process. Usually this takes forever and I think thats a thing every artist experiences no matter how good they are ^^ so take your time and enjoy the process. At least that's what I think to keep myself motivated :)
All of your OC are gorgeous, i like them all, so beautiful. your artstyle is 100. I draw too (and post it on my yt), but its so hard to me to make OC with a great illustration. i wish i can draw as good as you did :')
Thank you for liking this character. When you look at my old speedpaint here you can see that it haven't been like that. I know everyone's saying this but it takes time and I am sure when you look back from where you're coming from it's already been a huge development :) I am wishing you all the best for your art 🙇♂️
This was a nice video! Thing i recommend doing first is coming up with a personality and then find references based on that, in my opinion its easier.
That's actually a good point. A different approach, building a character from inside out. I think it depends on the purpose of the character and with what idea you initially started. Hopefully I can try it next time the other way around. Thanks for letting me know :)

it's always great to watch your process. your designs are so dynamic, i'm always in awe how effortless you make it look. it's very inspiring to me! how long does it usually take you to complete character sheets like this? it must take a lot of time!
Oh actually I had luck haha. Usually I think a lot and this takes so much time. But this time everything felt so easy. So I guess 1 week in total drawing here and there :)

Wow😍 You never fail to pleasantly surprise, Kuro-san! I'd love to watch it as a tutorial, but I'm mesmerised by the process and exquisiteness of your artwork. Such graceful lines and luxurious colors -- what a delicacy. We have horse chestnut trees blooming now, and the boy's eyes reming me of these flowers^^ I'm not sure about name, but for some reason I think about something that sounds German -- the handsome one has some vampire-ish vibes, therefore European-like fleur. Unfortunately, I don't speak German and only word I've come up with is "kirsche" (probably because of "kirsch liquor" :D). Anyway, awesome artwork, thanks for the meal😋
That's such an indepth and thoughtful comment! Actually someone had a similar thought with seeing him origin from Europe. So that's really a thing to consider. I am glad you like the design and I hope to draw him with Rin together. I will think of some German Names but I like the idea of cherries somehow even though I German you would name someone as nickname like that :D

Die Videos sind immer so gut gemacht und mit viel Mühe, das sieht man! Macht jedes Mal wieder Spaß zuzugucken und inspiriert dazu:) Ich hab mir mal wegen dem Namen Gedanken gemacht: Yoake oder Zanko (stehen jeweils für Morgenröte oder Abendröte) oder Henka, was soviel wie "Wandel" im deutschen heißt (weil er immer seine Haarfarbe ändert:))

I was gonna say this oc could be named as kuro in insecurity and Shiro once he dyed his hair. but either way a nice name would be...Kurogane: Black steel or dark metal.

I am usually using 3300 x 3700 px and 300dpi for my art. Some months ago I used 2300 x 2700px with 300 dpi and it worked wonderfully. The smaller size was easier to post on social media tbh

Thank you! I watched a bunch of videos but I can't remember any specific. I think the best way to learn was to study from other people's art while working on my own drawing. Observing their details carefully and from close up. Hope this helps :)

Hi Kuro! I'm kinda curious with the brush setting that you do use. Already tried one from your another episode, but I feel my pen pressure is still not as comfortable as when using with ipad+apple pen. I use device huion kamvas right now. Do you have any tips? Anyway impressing video as always!
Hello! I know what you mean. Since I am not coming from an apple pencil i find the table stylus more comfortable since their nibs are giving in when pressure is put on them. But when you want that soft and kinda juciy drawing feeling I would recommend making the pressure curves for your pen (in the pen settings) super soft. You can also do this In clip studios settings as well so you have double softness. Hope that helps :) also another thing: give the brushes more density and opacity so they are more opaque :)
