You know, the craziest thing about cryptids and legends are the fact that they’re based on real things. Unicorns were more than likely made up because ancient people found the bones of extinct rhinos and dragons the fossils of dinosaurs. The platypus was a cryptid and so were other very rare creatures.

What you tend to notice is how these monsters are related to certain aspects of human life such as the English kelpe which is a warning about going to near water in the fear of drowning and whilst the fear of death isn’t too bad such as telling kids not to cross the road or you’ll get run over, but the fear of a gruesome and grizzly death whilst being popularized and practiced by everyone around you has a much deeper impact as stated with the kelpe where transforms into a beautiful stallion near bodies of water, where it will entice you to go near it in order to pet it or ride on its back if you’re a weary traveler, where it will drag you under water and devour you alive. As in the case of the chimera it warns children the dangers of going outside late at night in fear that this monster would snatch you up and devour you, this can also be used in reference towards warning children to be wary of strangers especially after dark who might want to kidnap them and take them away.

I am about halfway through so I don’t know if you talk about it, but the wolf man of LBL is a one. The story goes that a family went camping but never returned, some went to investigate and found the camper completely destroyed the father and son dead, the mother dragged out of the camper dead, but they never found the daughter until they went into the woods and found bits of her in a tree.
This is technically a real family that died, but I think their deaths were exaggerated a little bit, but my friends swear that they heard growing too loud to be a normal wolf but who knows.

Don't forget the Alkali Lake Monster. Famous enough to be featured on The Secret Saturdays. There are two different versions of that, one vaguely like the monster in the cartoon and the other has enormous ears. The latter has been renamed Wally the Walgren Lake Monster.

I Never saw the creature but 1994-6 I worked as a security guard about 5 miles north of London, Kentucky.
I never saw or heard the creature but at the end of my shift I saw incredible 16-18 inch footprints.
This thing walked on two legs but took 6 feet at a stride.
The curious thing there were no toes almost as if the creature had lost its toes from frostbite

Driving home one night just ahead of me beyond the headlights something that looked to be a dog or coyote walks out of a field into the road and sits down. Suddenly a large set of what looks like bat wings open and it flies off. I can't find any cryptid that matches. Any ideas.

Once I was out in the woods drinking moonshine and smoking pot when I was accosted by a terrifying cryptid. It had a flat topped head with eyes like mirrors and had a five pointed star on it's chest. It chained my hands behind my back and took me on a trip in its spaceship to an unknown location where I passed out. When I woke up the next day I told the jailor what had happened and he said that stuff like that happens all the time in Appalachia.
