    Notice how ferocious the snake was, moving away from the girl…..
    They just want to be left alone. Beautiful creatures!

      Luckily Eastern Timber Rattlesnakes, while the largest of the rattlesnakes are also the most relaxed. They'll rattle the longest time before attacking but most of the time will just leave if not bothered. But being the largest they have the potential to be the deadliest as they can deliver the largest amount of venom! Supposedly there's a new trend among them now where they don't rattle, they just leave. I've yet to witness that behavior though..;)

    You are one brave woman! I’m a man, I love snakes but I don’t think I would have been as calm and professional as you! 👍

    Big old boy or girl, catching some rays, warming up for the day. Gives the hiker fair warning, moseys off and hopefully catches a nice fat mouse.
    Thanks for an excellent video.

    Well, at least he warned you, that sound resonates in a primitive part of the brain.

    I'm listening to a podcast right now and they are talking about cases of rattlesnakes no longer rattling when people are close. This is to not reveal their location because folks have been killing them.

      How would a rattle snake learn that technique? They are solitary and not sure they share that kind of knowledge.

    • @dcairol
      @dcairol 2 года назад

      Wrong. They don’t learn that. It’s just that their populations are extremely reduced due to the loss of habitat.

      @@johnnywest8076 They don't "learn it". It's natural selection. The ones who don't rattle much don't get caught and killed and get to pass along their genes, producing more of the same kind of snake. There's more and more rattlers with congenital defects where the rattle is non-functional or missing altogether. Once again, it's an evolutionary advantage when dealing with an apex predator who uses the rattling to locate and kill them on site for centuries, so these are the snakes who have the highest chance of living long enough to reproduce. These dangerous snakes came with a nice early warning device and we are ruining it, making it MORE dangerous for ourselves.

    What other snakes do you see up there? I'm sure black rat and milk snakes.

    Nice video, although I suspect that was a timber rattlesnake, as the eastern diamondback doesn’t range anywhere close to NY.

    The last thing that timber wants is anything to do with this woman. They are a very docile snake 🐍 and give humans a very wide berth, if he bites you you made your own bed. If she was a mouse, Rat 🐀 or many other things, that rattler would have been silent. Say thank you for warning and move on.
